Here is the team that Steve Bruce has selected to face Burnley this afternoon. It has four changes from the win against Southampton.

Steve Bruce has decided to start both Andy Carroll and Joelinton together. We assume that the Brazilian will play on the left in place of Allan Saint-Maximin while Christian Atsu will come in for Miguel Almiron, who will not be risked.
Steve will not risk Jonjo Shelvey either. So we see Sean Longstaff, with a mustache, back into the starting eleven along with Fabian Schar, who is in for Ciaran Clark.
Florian Lejeune comes back into the match-day squad along with Matty Longstaff and Yoshinori Muto. Rob Elliot gets a surprise spot on the bench instead of Karl Darlow.
This is who Burnley manager Sean Dyche will send out for our opponents.

This is another prominent December fixture for Steve Bruce and the boys. We’ve started this crucial month with two wins, and a third here would be an outstanding result. It would propel us well into the top ten.
It won’t be easy as Burnley are a well-coached side coming off three straight defeats. They’ll be ready to redeem themselves at Turf Moor, but hopefully, this makeshift Newcastle team can add to their misery.
Howay The Lads!

Not saying he’s flawless but like I say, it’s easier to ignore anything he is actually doing well.

Comment #93Interesting, this. It’s different. Because they’re so concerned with Andy, Joelington is getting space…

Comment #94Manquillo playing well. Second or third time he has taken the ball from his player.

Comment #95Wasteful from Hayden. Should have played the simple pass for Manquillo to cross.
Better approach play from us though.

Comment #98Manquillo looks faster to me, he looks like Almiron sometimes in his running. Him and Carroll our best two up to now.

Comment #102Why can’t any of our players cross the ball properly!!? Be it corners or from open play we suck at crossing the ball. Always have since we had Milner and Solano. Infuriating.

I think people have ignored some of the positives in his game because of the lack of goals, but fsurely or a wide forward/centre forward, that burst forward to find or create space, get into a position where he could get a chance, should be a basic fundamental.
I do think there is a player in there, and probably quite a good one, but he lacks cutting edge, the instinctive movement, and seemingly the desire to attack. Need to see something extra in his game, or it is getting difficult to justify a role in the current set up.

Comment #108Considering the games we’ve played recently if we concede against this lot it will be out of pity. Can’t remember us spending so much time in the opposition half home never mind away. If we don’t rely on dummetts speculative hooked ball into the D we might score here 🙂

There are times when jo has passed and remained in the same vicinity, there are times when he has passed and moved forward. You know it’s not feasible for any player to continuously pass and make strides going forward.
He’s doing ok in the match for me.
He’s made a few good runs but yet to be picked out. He’s ran ahead of Carroll a few times but flick ons haven’t fallen to him yet.

Comment #115Burnley are actually so poor we just have to be alert to the knock downs but they have nothing in their locker apart from that!
Atsu needs to get a bit more involved and I think Joelintons link up play has been very good but we need to commit more bodies when we attack as they need to be beaten!

Comment #120Rather put on Muto. Will play better off Carroll, has better movement in behind and more likely to pounce on something in the box.
