Four Newcastle Lads Get Starts On Loan This Afternoon

Swansea were able to snap a six-match winless streak this afternoon by defeating Middlesbrough 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium. It was Freddie Woodman’s 22nd consecutive start on loan as he continues to be their primary keeper. Swansea move to 10th in the Championship just one point behind Fulham in the playoff places.

Jacob Murphy was an unused substitute in Sheffield Wednesday’s 4-0 win at Nottingham Forest. He had played in the last three matches, starting last weekend against Brentford. It has been a disappointing loan move for Murphy, who’ll turn 25 in February.

Rolando Aarons started for just the fourth time in the league in Wycombe’s 2-0 win at home against Burton Albion. Aarons was substituted in the 65th minute. He’s played a total of 11 times in all competitions with 2 goals for Wycombe since joining in early September.

Midfielder Dan Barlaser was back in the starting eleven in Rotherham’s 2-2 draw at Southend. It’s his 18th start in all competitions for the Millers. With the draw, Rotherham move into 6th place in League One.

Liam Gibson made his sixth straight start for Grimbsy Town in a scoreless draw at Carlisle United. Unfortunately, Elias Sorensen did not get off the bench to face his Newcastle teammate. Gibson has played frequently for the Mariners while Sorensen has had a wasted four months at Carlisle.

Who Was Newcastle's Best Player In Defeat At Burnley?

  • Javier Manquillo (34%, 257 )
  • Andy Carroll (29%, 217 )
  • Martin Dubravka (14%, 107 )
  • Federico Fernandez (6%, 43 )
  • Joelinton (4%, 31 )
  • Fabian Schar (3%, 26 )
  • Isaac Hayden (3%, 25 )
  • Paul Dummett (3%, 19 )
  • Jetro Willems (2%, 13 )
  • Sean Longstaff (1%, 9 )
  • Christian Atsu (1%, 8 )

People talk about the net spend, that net spend will not be achieved with Rafas buys, his buying record is terrible.
It was achieved because of Carr.

    Carroll was clumsy and useless
We play much worse when he is on the pitch.
Long ball after long ball many of which he doesnt win
Also, he was at fault for the goal
Obstructing Dubs’ path and leaving Woods to get a free header
He Belongs on the bench going forward

    Moonraker and tsunki
So your main gripes are with the cost of the player?

Tsunki, I agree with the anticipation part however he’s never been the type of player to gamble or sniff out chances in the box.

Joelinton cost more than rafa’s team that won at burnley last season. This club is so messed up.

Joelinton was better today. Carroll did two good things. He set up Atsu and he did a good cross in the second half. That was it. Burnley are poor. We’ll finish above them in the table. Just don’t want us to get beat by Man Utd. Can’t stand them. Need Almiron and Shelvey back.

Joelinton has suffered because of the way we set up. It suits Carroll far better, but what we really need is more quality in the middle of the park to make the system work. Two really good central mids are required. One to hold, one box to box and of course we need some goals from our front 3. Joelinton, probably should continue to be played wider in competition with St Max, Almirón, and Atsu, while we look to bring in another central striker, in January (on loan most likely, someone like Giroud) and at least one, probably two central mids, which I suppose would have to wait till the summe .

We could get Ibrahima Sissoko in in January. He’s a big holding midfielder. Can move Almiron into his best position just behind the striker and sign Jarrod Bowen. He is fantastic. Would just need a few fast strikers then.

I’d be happy if we just signed Sissoko and Bowen in January. That would significantly improve us:

    Dubravka

    Yedlin Fernandez/Schar Lejuene Willems

    Sissoko

    Bowen Shelvey Saint-Maximin

    Almiron

    Muto

He actually surprised me today. Thought he did better on the wing. Seemed a bit quicker especially when he chased Pieters, knocked him off the ball and crossed it in.

No great surprise today. Not having an attacking force costs us yet again.
ASM is great to watch but even when he gets back – he can not alone be our saviour. The basic problem is that we just do not have any strikers.
Joelinton – ran a bit more today and on a couple of occasions got out of 2nd gear to run a bit faster.
He is a very poor player – forget this rubbish about him being out of position/ no support etc etc – he is a poor player it is so plain to see.

We may get some wins and then suffers some loses – we’ll pick up points – but will not really improve the football much. Alright talking about fancy tactics – we have not got enough quality players.

I thought he was poor, but showed some glimpses today that he’s not that bad. Was my man of the match along with Willems and Fernandez. Sean Longstaff is awful as is Hayden. That’s our problem. We need better midfielders. Ibrahima Sissoko will fix that problem.

Joelinton has obvious qualities. He’s fast when given room use it, he’s big and strong, good in the air, and he can go past players with the ball at his feet. He’s 22, new to the league and being asked to play an unfamiliar and very tough role, in a hardworking rather than skillful side that typically has under 40% possession. He needs to be given time, although he perhaps should not be in a first choice starting 11 right now.

Wow jib that had the rest my of true insight right up to the part where you forgot to add in the bit about insisting on paying well over the odds for said player against the advice of a world class multi-award winning manager and not only bought him but jettisoned said manager and then installed a washed up championship lapdog on the downslide to shut up and coach what he’s been bought. Good effort up to then though. 4/10 keep trying. 🙂

I said in the week, it’s time that Bruce looks at some players in the youth set up, but sadly didn’t have the balls to try it.
If the manager and owner with Chumley cannot see that we do need a striker in Jan then we could see ourselves after the Christmas break in the bottom half of the table close to the relegation line.
Yes, we ain’t going to win every single game this season but if we set up not understanding players like Chris Wood is a threat in the air then it’s going to be a hard second half of the season.
Strikers, holding tough Batty type midfielder, are needed in Jan.

Mr T I’m afraid strikers are actually secondary to our problem. We could have middling strikers and score shedloads – what is key is the creativity and service from midfield. We don’t have any of that unfortunately and I would have to go back a decade to find anything like an attempt at it.

Assassins – I really hope you don’t take this badly or personally bit for crying out loud youth setup? Have you seen what’s floating around down there? If you are slavering at the prospect of watching us being ragged by half a dozen goals a game I could understand it but once we get past four subs we are starting to contemplate using dustbins filled with water.

I don’t understand what some fools here are saying we need better strikers?

We don’t f*ING create anything. We got wins this season with large amount of scorers being defenders and scoring with our only shot in the game.

We have been riding our luck completely and results like this are bound to come. We’ll probably play shi* again win a fluke next game and lose after that.

Alan shearer upfront won’t solve this problem. We don’t create anything in a game. We just hoof it up.

Make no mistake, this is a Championship squad. If one of the defenders doesn’t score we get beat simple as that.We are in in a totally false league position through pure luck. What we witnessed today was a true reflection of how poor the squad is.Joelinton,Longstaff(both of them)Dummett,Atsu and Almiron would struggle to pull up up trees in the Championship. As far as the parasite is concerned though everything is rosy because we should be able to get to 17th and he will spend nothing in January make no mistake about it.Bruce is nothing but an apologist for the current shambles that is Sports Direct Fc and his luck is running out.Its a shambles from top to bottom and the sheep that have to get their fix every week are part of the problem,no other (big club)would put up with it anywhere in world football.

Funny that jib how you are turning my comments in to some kind of glee that we lost. I’m still exactly as annoyed about our predicament as ever. What’s most annoying is the cock crowing as you say when we were winning and the usual pro Ashley chumps were saying how well we are doing – everyone who could plainly see the fragility of our situation was ridiculed with talk of “best league position since pardew” and “better start than last year” and “all credit to Bruce” etc. All I said was it would be better not to boast about how great Bruce is just yet, but that made me a Taliban recruit somehow. However when we lose and lose so lamely (as advertised because the injuries were always coming – especially when you run out ASM at Sheffield – and he was obviously carrying something then – but no, great coach that you are, in your desperation you HAVE to play the big gun even if he’s hobbled) this time it’s the players fault not the coach.

Not celebrating jib, you PCB etching acid guzzler, just irritated by the goons who’ve suddenly stopped screeching ridicule today because they’ve been giving anyone with sense hell for weeks.

Tsunki, you are confusing things. The taliban was in reference only to benitez, where negative comments were not allowed by guys like you and Jail who were fixated with him, mainly with his champs league win 20 years ago. Perhaps I should have called it Raffia law. The taliban reference does not refer to Bruce where its obviously fine, as it shud be, to slag him off. Despite the fact he is doing as well as rafa was doing, ie not exactly brilliantly.
