A few days ago, there was a report that Premier League trio Crystal Palace, Brighton, and West Ham were interested in a January move for Javier Manquillo.
With his contract up in the summer, we assumed any bid would be minimal. However, the Northern Echo is reporting that West Ham are set to launch a £5m offer for the Spaniard next month.
If accurate, Newcastle could turn a profit on a player with just six months remaining on his deal. Manquillo was signed from Atletico Madrid in 2017 for £4.5m.
Newcastle obviously have a lot of decisions to make with a host of players on contracts that will expire in the summer. Of those Federico Fernandez, Javier Manquillo, and Karl Darlow are ones that Newcastle may opt to offer new deals to.
Javier Manquillo– to sell or not to sell
We can’t envision a scenario where Matty Longstaff would leave Newcastle despite him having just six months left on his contract. Talks are ongoing with the 19-year-old and we would be shocked if an agreement was not reached.
Jetro Willems has a £9.3m clause to make his deal from Frankfurt a permanent one. We would also expect that to be triggered at some point before the summer.
Then there’s Andy Carroll, who we think will also be retained unless he suffers a catastrophic injury.
We will likely see Jack Colback, Ki Sung-yueng, and Rob Elliot leave this winter, which will open up at least three squad slots for new summer signings.
The Manquillo question is a tricky one. He can negotiate with clubs overseas next month and could fancy a return to Spain. However, his newfound situation as a Newcastle first-teamer could also influence his decision if he is offered a new deal.
If he’s not offered a new deal or isn’t keen to extend his stay on Tyneside, the best outcome for Newcastle would be to recoup £5m for him. It would be an unexpected return on a player who just three weeks ago was deemed surplus to requirements.

a real footy man”
No I’m not a “footy” man jib. Is it like that soccer ball goals game I’ve heard about? Do they use second row lock 4 left sided scrumming forwards? Help me out here. 😉

Comment #51Jib I get the romantic side of the FA cup I really do appreciate it since seeing my first final at a rich mates house on his colour telly in the late 60’s 🙂 I imagined it was Manchester United there seemed to be a lot of red about ha ha.
No, the bit i doubt is the will to actually attempt to get to a final. I don’t think it’s there.

Comment #53More likely Liverpool in 1971 my memories not as good as twenty five to five I think. Having said that colour telly’s were atrocious in the early days. I remember watching one on a trip to London and everything was green. I wondered what all the hype was about. 😀

Comment #55Can we turn Shelvey into a proper striker and Linty Joe into an AM? Possibly that’s the way to go. Since we have no money to spend on players in January that is. Or possibly Mikey thinks we don’t need a striker at all since we’re in 11th which is exactly where he wants us to be. No success so no extra games in Europe to worry aboot next season, but also nice and comfortably far from the relegation places (at least for now).

Comment #58Aye that’ll be it jib. The cup was magical then the build up went on for what seemed like hours on end it was a proper landmark occasion in the year and what I do remember of it they always seemed to be played in glorious sunshine.
