Bruce Notes Possibility Of Two ‘Patched Up’ Teams On Saturday

Both Newcastle and Crystal Palace are facing an injury crisis ahead of Saturday’s match at St James Park. We were forced to field a patched-up side against Burnley with Joelinton on the left-wing and Isaac Hayden playing higher up the pitch in a more creative role.

We’ll find out more over the next few days about the availability of Ciaran Clark, Jonjo Shelvey, and Miguel Almiron. They are due to partake in tomorrow’s training session. If they come through unscathed, they could very well be declared fit for Crystal Palace.

The Eagles are facing their own injury crisis as they were missing six players in their 1-1 draw against Brighton on Monday.

The Shields Gazette have published some comments from Steve Bruce about the plights of the two teams entering into the weekend. This is some of what he had to say:

“Yes, I mean, we have been patched up and I saw Crystal Palace last night and watched that one and they were patched up as well.

“So, I think it is this particular time of year, games come thick and fast, injuries can be a little bit cruel to you.

“Certainly after looking at Crystal Palace and ourselves at the weekend, we were both dealt a bad deal.

“So hopefully we can get one or two fit and see how we are then.”

Crystal Palace were still able to rescue a point on Monday with a late goal from Wilfried Zaha. However, they had issues with Jairo Riedewald as a fill-in left-back and he had to be replaced at the half.

He was in for former Magpie Patrick Van Aanholt, who could return this weekend. Though it looks another former Newcastle player in Andros Townsend will not be able to make it.

This is what Roy Hodgson said about the timescale for some of his injured players.

“Patrick van Aanholt because it was a muscle injury, we’re hoping that might not be quite so long.

“But Jeffrey Schlupp is a long term injury, Andros Townsend is a long term injury, Gary Cahill has had a minor operation and it will be a relatively long term injury and Mamadou Sakho has got one more game of his suspension.”

From these comments, it appears as though Crystal Palace will still be missing a few players, though if they get van Aanholt back that would be a boost for them.

Hopefully, we will get the trio of Amiron, Clark, and Shelvey back and ready to go for Saturday. We’ll still be missing some key players, but having these three back will give Bruce a few more options than this past weekend.

    From the BBC…..

Red Bull Salzburg winger Takumi Minamino will have a Liverpool medical on Wednesday and is set to join the Premier League leaders on 1 January.

Meanwhile at Sleepy Hollow, formally known as Newcastle United, Charmless gets back to counting the biscuits

In summer Liverpool signed 17 year old Sepp van den Berg
from PEC Zwolle for 2m Euros the only cash they spent.

Meanwhile at Sleepy Hollow they spent £65M plus Jetro Willems on loan

Bowen if he wants to sit on a bench all season at Spurs that’s his choice and of course if you fall out with Jose your not evening training with the first team.

Let me think here, play time or bench time, score goals and become a legend at our club or gamble on playing time at Spurs.

    Hopeful?

Nope, hope went out of the window when the reported BZG bid came to nothing.

‘Meanwhile at Sleepy Hollow they spent £65M plus Jetro Willems on loan’.

But compare the relative status of Liverpool FC and NUFC and you’ll see that spending £65m means nothing.

Jib @3: Spending €2M a team is at the top of EPL by some distance. Spending (wasting) £65M another is at 11th (unlikely to last long). Who is doing better?

Assuming your £65m includes the £40m for Joelinton, are you suggesting that’s money well spent?

Surely the fact that Joelinton was bought without reference to Bruce and nearly half way through the season, Bruce hasn’t a clue where his best position is, is confirmation that Ashley’s model’ll never work?

Middle of last summer I thought we would be top 8 this year without having to spend more than £25M. Hope is a killer.

I actual think he’ll go to Leicester, they play the perfect style for his game have a very progressive manager and owner and he will be the perfect replacement when the big boys come calling for Maddison

    Why mention what?

It speaks volumes that Liverpool have a deal tied up while Bruce claims he needs to see some of our players in action before he can decide whether they can do a job for us.
