We were linked with a move for Derby County’s young right-back Jayden Bogle during the summer transfer window. No move was made but reports resurfaced in September that Newcastle still maintained an interest in the 19-year-old.
With both Javier Manquillo and DeAndre Yedlin seemingly running down their contracts with no reports of extensions on the horizon, we wonder if Newcastle are still tracking the England U20 international.
Javier Manquillo has just six months remaining on his contract and may not be in line for an extension as reported in the Chronicle yesterday. Yedlin’s deal expires in 18-months and the 26-year-old is rarely mentioned when talks of new contracts are raised.
It seems like both players are not a priority to get tied down for the future. There has also been some talk of an overhaul of the squad this summer. So that could mean that both players are considered expendable and will either leave on frees when their deals expire or be sold on for reduced fees.
Jayden Bogle– young right-back would be an astute signing
That’s where Bogle could be a perfect signing for Newcastle. He’s a young very promising right-back who is attracting a lot of attention.
In addition to Newcastle’s reported interest, he’s got admirers in Premier League teams Burnley, Bournemouth, and Brighton. There are even reports in the last few days, that Italian giants AC Milan are tracking the player.
In the Derby Telegraph, Derby manager Cocu spoke recently about the interest in Bogle:
“I am not surprised. I think after his six or seven-week lay-off with his ankle injury, he needed some time to get back his form.
“He is a 19-year-old modern offensive full back who gives something extra to your team.
“At this age, and the amount of games he has played, I am not surprised that there are some clubs interested in Jayden.”
Bogle was outstanding last season as an 18-year-old – he just turned 19 in late July. Playing under Frank Lampard, he made 40 appearances in the Championship, with 39 of those being starts. He scored 2 goals and had a very impressive 9 assists.
This season despite missing 6 games in late August/early September, Bogle has 16 appearances with 3 assists. He’s gotten critical first-team experience at a relatively high level of football for a player so young.
The fee mentioned over the summer was in the £10m range, but we suspect it would likely be higher than that now. We hope Newcastle still have an eye on this player as he could be a terrific signing next summer to replace Javier Manquillo in the squad if he is not given an extension.
