Former Magpie Michael Owen has given his prediction for the match against Crystal Palace on Saturday. Talking to Bet Victor, Owen has predicted a 1-1 draw.
This is his prediction in full.
Both sides are struggling for goals and Newcastle failed to have a shot on target for the third time this season at Turf Moor last weekend.
The Magpies are a different proposition at St James’ Park, however, although I think they may have to settle for a point against a Palace side who are, arguably, better away from home and came from behind to get a point at home to Brighton on Monday.
Owen is correct in his assertion that both clubs are struggling for goals. In fact, Crystal Palace are one of only two teams with fewer goals than Newcastle. With just 15 goals this season, the Eagles best only Watford with 9 in that all-important category.
We fare only marginally better with 17 goals. Our records are somewhat similar as well, with both clubs winning six. However, Crystal Palace have one less defeat so they are one point better in the standings.
Newcastle have not tasted defeat at St James Park since August while Crystal Palace have managed a few key away wins. They’ve beaten both Manchester United and West Ham in away tests. They are also on a 4 game unbeaten streak, which they would like to continue on Saturday.
What Michael fails to mention is that both teams are struggling with injuries. Crystal Palace will be without Jeffrey Schlupp, Gary Cahill, and Andros Townsend with Patrick van Aanholdt also possibly out.
As of right now, only Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Ritchie, and Allan Saint-Maximin are confirmed to miss the game. However, we had a total of 8 out last week at Burnley. Though a few of those players came back to training on Thursday.
The Chronicle were able to verify that Jonjo Shelvey did weight training today but was not featured in any of the images released by the club.
It should be another tough match on Saturday, but hopefully, we’ll get Jonjo Shelvey and Miguel Almiron back and they can make the difference.
