Almiron, Lejeune, And Shelvey All Start Against Crystal Palace

Here is the team that Steve Bruce has selected for this afternoon’s match against Crystal Palace.

It’s a big boost for everyone as Miguel Almiron and Jonjo Shelvey are back fit. But the best news is the return of Florian Lejeune making his first appearance since his injury last April.

Andy Carroll also gets consecutive starts for the first time this season. It looks like Joelinton will get another run out on the left. However, we are without Jetro Willems and it looks like Paul Dummett will fill in at left-back.

This is the team that Roy Hodgson has picked for our opponents. He gets former Magpie Patrick van Aanholdt back at left-back.

It’s another critical match this afternoon at St James Park. We’ll need to see a better performance than last weekend. Hopefully, we’ll get back on track with a full three points.

Howay The Lads!

Bar Townsend, isn’t that a full palace team? They were crying all week saying they are missing too many players.

Our 3 best ball playing CBs are there now so hopefully not so many hoofs today. Willems huge miss though.

Last year was the same but in the build up to the same game, they were crying to referee all week for protection for zaha.

I’m not particularly fond of Crystal Palace!

I hope Shelvey isn’t being rushed back. Maybe it’s just a case of getting an hour out of Shelvey instead of bringing him on later.

    Lmao rotinda,

2 big men up front, and you think not so many hoofed balls.

3 ball playing CB, its the reason he picked them, because the try and pass it long rather than just hoofing it.

This is going to be a long ball game for us, bot manquilio and dummett do not get forward as much.

I think you have miss read that line up completely.

Willems seems to be listed as playing on the NUFC site.

Newcastle United: Martin Dúbravka; Javier Manquillo, Florian Lejeune, Federico Fernández, Paul Dummett, Jetro Willems; Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden; Miguel Almirón, Andy Carroll, Joelinton.

Substitutes: Karl Darlow, Emil Krafth, DeAndre Yedlin, Matty Longstaff, Sean Longstaff, Christian Atsu, Dwight Gayle.

if we get at palace i think we could see goals for almiron and/ or joelinton. we have three players good at longballs, plus three targets. i expect palace to sit back so maybe now we will finally see front foot football.

theyre going to try to control the midfield, we are going to try to bypass it.

I think you have mis-read my comment completely. I said I am hoping not so many ” hoofs” but not holding my breath. The 3 Cbs today are technically better at passing the ball out than lascelles, clark and dummet. You probably agree with me though that football under bruce isn’t a great watch as the stats show.

im not a fan either ronaldo,
i expect them to be bottom 6 or 7 at the end.
whoever loses tonight could be pulled into trouble. the winner if there is one should be safe for another year.

Kouyate at CB, don’t think he;s played there before.Would have liked to see Gayle start to make the most of their makeshift defence with good movement.

Hope this is the day Carroll bangs one in.

If we play 3 CBs again as it looks like we will, Willems will be a miss. Dummett just nowhere near the same class when it comes to ability and composure on the ball. He improved a lot going forward at LB under Rafa, but been playing at CB for a while now.

Need a big improvement on last weekend. Was hoping for a change in formation.

    Better line up this week.

Let’s hope for a nice 3 points ahead of the tough run coming up.

Anyone notice Charlie Nicholas staying that we don’t need Almiron as he doesn’t score goals, but we do n Ed his pace. Not sure how that would work.

That’s the tragic reality of it. midfield is largely bypassed most games now.
Would like to see how joelinton would do in his correct position in the middle.

A good long ball ie a 60 year ”hoddlesque” pass is a thing of beauty, but i just hope we can vary it a bit and not just get attracted to carroll’s head every time. Sadly ASM is the only one quick enough to get in behind.

Chris Waugh reckons it’s a change of formation back to the 3-5-2 with Andy Carroll in front of Joelinton. Miggy playing as an advanced midfielder behind the 2 strikers.

No, I didn’t miss read, I just think these 3 are more accurate with their long balls.

I fully agree these 3 are far better footballers than Las Dumm and Clarke.

I also fully agree with the football being pretty much no diffirent between Rafa and Bruce.

My point has always been Rafa was meant to be world class, and Bruce a donkey journey man, yet on the pitch I don’t see any difference, and the difference I do see is the players seem to be doing more for Bruce than Rafa,.

I know that’s subjective, but I think it’s quantifiable in many ways, some are easy like league position goal difference, and others are harder but still visable, like how the players seem more like a team more than a squad.

The players seem to have warmed very quickly to Bruce, he has glowing endorsements from players like shearer and Harper, so I am happy he is doing well and proving a lot of people wrong.

Will be a tough game today. They are weakest in midfield. Don’t rate Mccarthy and Mcarthur. Tomkins and Kelly aren’t great. All the rest are decent. Would’ve put Manquillo at left back. Dummett is useless. Play Yedlin at right-back. Could be a close game. 1-1 or 2-1.

Iv been watching SBR documentary on Netflix, and I have always believed the fans got him sacked, and I was saddened by the fact it was his own squad, both sides for different reasons, you had the young kn obs with no respect for him or the club, but it seems that some of the senior players were going to Fat Freddy and telling him he needs to talk to SBR.

    Very sad indeed

I’d be more concerned if Almiron is being rushed back. Was said to be a hammy problem, notoriously fragile and you need them fully repaired before sprinting 100% again. Hope we don’t see it go the same way as ASM.
