Newcastle were able to get a massive three points this afternoon despite being outplayed by Crystal Palace for much of the game. The lads found a breakthrough in the 82nd minute through Miguel Almiron, who gets his first Newcastle United goal.
It was against the run of play as Crystal Palace were all over us in the second half. It was a trend they continued from closing moments of the first half. The defense did enough to stem the Eagle’s attack, but it was Martin Dubravka who again made some good saves to keep us in the game.
There were few standouts this afternoon though Florian Lejeune played well in his return to the team. Javier Manquillo continues to shine down the right flank.
Andy Carroll again put in a battling display up top and got another assist. He hasn’t had many chances himself but he’s making a difference in this team.
We thought the lads started very well finding space down the left flank and occasionally on the right. Though we didn’t do enough with our deliveries once again. To close the first half, we were very poor in possession and that continued throughout the second half.
However, this is an excellent three points from a game that Crystal Palace will feel they should have gotten something from. However, it all came together in the 82nd minute, where Miguel Almiron grabbed his first goal as a Magpie.
Who Was The Man Of The Match In Win Against Crystal Palace?
- Javier Manquillo (39%, 747 )
- Miguel Almiron (36%, 672 )
- Martin Dubravka (15%, 277 )
- Andy Carroll (5%, 87 )
- Florian Lejeune (2%, 42 )
- Jonjo Shelvey (1%, 17 )
- Joelinton (1%, 17 )
- Paul Dummett (1%, 15 )
- Fabian Schar (1%, 11 )
- Federico Fernandez (0%, 5 )
- Isaac Hayden (0%, 2 )

Comment #1Exactly what Miggy needed….no time to think about anything, just reacted and volleyed ball brilliantly into back of net! MOt!
Manquillo played great, frustrated Zaha all afternoon.
Good to see Lejeune back on pitch and starting to shake of the rust!

This disgrace of a ‘supporter’ has forecast a defeat for us in every game this season.
Earlier today he predicted yet another defeat and sail he ‘couldn’t wait’ to see us make CP look like Barcelona.
How sad can you get.

Comment #11I must admit I always take us for a draw as despite wanting us to win. I worry about putting a jinx on it.

The coach is obviously delighted for Miggy too. Quite rightly so.
What price Miggy top scorer now he’s broken his hoodoo?

Comment #16Manquillo has had a good run of games and ended last season strongly too. Could argue he’s playing for a contract but turned 25 in the summer. He’ll be coming in to his peak. Will be disappointing to see him leave and continue this form elsewhere.

You could see how much it meant to all the players and staff. Shame Dummet picked up a knock and they had to change the sub to him, and Miggy didn’t get an individual ovation going off.

Comment #32I said if we won all three of our matches running up to Christmas we would have been sixth.
Turns out we would have been, too, except for that match Vs Burnley, who did the same against Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth as they did against us.

Comment #35Cracking three points for the team today,Palace must be scratching their heads how they came away with nothing. The football on display is dire but so what, points on the board is all that matters.Great to see Almiron break his duck, hopefully he will start scoring more regularly now because his work rate and effort deserves it.Its starting to look like we might stay up and as soon as we get close to 40 points someone might come in and take it off the parasites hands, fingers crossed.
