It’s that hectic time of year when squads are stressed to the limit. None more than Newcastle who will be without five players, but that could stretch to nine if Bruce goes ultra-cautious on Thursday.
Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Ritchie, Allan Saint-Maximin, Ciaran Clark, and Ki Sung-yueng are all unavailable for the trip to Manchester United. While Bruce will have decisions to make on Jetro Willems, Paul Dummett, Andy Carroll, and Florian Lejeune. The latter two recently returning to the starting eleven after lengthy spells out with injury.
It’s not often that Newcastle can travel to Old Trafford with a chance of jumping above Man United in the table. But that’s the case for the match on Boxing Day. Both Newcastle and the Red Devils are on 25 points with only Man United’s goal difference seeing them a place above us in 8th.
Manchester United had a six-game unbeaten streak in the league snapped at Watford on Sunday. They’ll likely be motivated to atone for that in front of their fans. They also should have Paul Pogba back who came on as a second-half substitute on Sunday after being out since late September.
However, this is one we think Newcastle should be getting something from despite the fitness issues. We’ve beaten them once this season, and if we can get another three points that would cap off the first half of the season beautifully.
What Will Be The Result At Manchester United On Thursday?
- Win (34%, 729 )
- Loss (34%, 720 )
- Draw (32%, 667 )

Comment #1Yes of course there’s a new bus, I’ve just posted, aren’t I a silly billy for not waiting till mil the midnight hour.
Spent last night running wild out in the woods naked to celebrate the Pagan rebirth of the Sun and the stirrings of new life in the natural world.
Well actually we had a fairly low key Solstice ritual, fully clothed, to welcome the Oak King returning to to begin his stint as the manager of natural thing for the next 6 months with the Holly King (after I’d given him a good thrashing) going off for his 6 month holiday, all very symbolic, good fun and lots of mead!
So a happy and healthy Yule to ‘all’ of my fellow bloggers and to football fans everywhere (yes Including Sunderland)

Ancelotti on Everton saying he has ambition and wants to get the team to the top as soon as possible, that his ambition is matched by the club and such a great club deserves it.
Ever heard anyone say that at NUFC recently? Anyone?

Comment #9Contextually I understand Pardew for that comment, we struggled in the league and were not reinforced over the previous summer after finishing 5th to compete in both Europe and the league. Our hefty overlord made sure of that with just Anita added to the squad. Not the first time we have been left exposed squad-wise.
Still good to bring back the comment every now and again though lol. He was good for a few lines to be fair was Pardew!

Comment #14Tsunki do you actually think there is a fan out there that believes we have a competent owner who is looking to set us up to compete with the top clubs in the prem? I can’t understand why you would post that comment from Ancelotti as their current owners are pumping money into that club at a rate to match the likes of city etc. What Newcastle fan actually thinks we are owned by someone who will do the same?

It was a tongue in cheek comment following Mindshaft’s post.
As for what you have said, I will be completely honest, I skim over most of the sniping on here nowadays, and just read football/Intersting NUFC content. It means I may stop reading a post after a few lines, and there is far less to read nowadays, but so be it.
It is a nonsense to say people who have given up tickets, or don’t go are lesser fans. It is a nonsense to say those that do go are pro Ashley. Too much polarisation on here/social media, there is a grey area which is probably where 95% of supporters sit. As is always the way, in most things, it is the extremists who shout loudest and most often, causing divisions and forcing/placing people on sides.

Ashley spoke of his vision for the club and said: “To definitely win something and, by the way, I won’t be selling (the Club) until I do.”
Ashley said: “(The club is not for sale) at any price and when I say ‘win something’, if we ever get into a position of being in a Champions League place, that also counts as winning something.”

Comment #26It’s about constantly striving to be our best selves, and on occasion being our best selves. Ashley has had us 13 years and we have never looked like being the club of our size and support. It’s an appalling and deeply disheartening way to run us, made even worse when you consider we hadn’t won anything for over 35 years, when he took us on, now fifty. Have a go man, or eff off.

Exactly. You put that better than I have been trying to for a couple of weeks.
Bobby
I’ll ask you again, can you define your sweeping generalisations – ‘you lot’ etc?
And I’m still waiting to know who has said that you’re not a proper fan etc, which you seem to be giving as your reason why you come in here to give nobody in particular (you lot) volleys of abuse.
What makes you think the ‘you lots’ have cut all ties with NUFC? I haven’t seen anyone say that. I will say again, people who haven’t renewed ST can still love their club,it what’s left of it. That’s none of your business.
Nobody needs your permission or approval regarding when they decide to attend home matches again, now next week or whenever..for the same reasons I can’t presume to have a say in what you do about your tickets.
So if someone gives you grief that you don’t agree with, please refrain from lumping everyone who has stopped going to home games,FOR NOW, in with one person. Take them up on it 1:1.

Comment #28Nicky this was brought up recently and again it seems you are using fan base to determine the position we should finish? So Man City should be way down the table by your judgement?
At the end of the day we all agree that the slug is a terrible owner however I don’t support the club just to win trophies. I support the club to get to the games and watch moments like Almiron etc. I always want us to be the best we can be and at the moment I think we are under the current owner. I don’t think we as a club have a god given right to be competitive with the top 2-3 clubs in the league.

Comment #29Bit of a shame Dummett doesn’t quite have the final ball. He has the pace to be a great wingback, and of course, defends really well. It really isn’t that complicated, get forward, and swing it over. Got forward brilliantly on the weekend, final ball lets him down.

Comment #30That’s not what I’m saying at all NUFC83. I’m saying we would quite naturally be more successful if we were well run, because of the size of our match day support. Man City are financially doped. Liverpool are well run. We are neither.

I think Nicky was making the point that the club should be aiming to be all it could be.
For me, yes, that would mean winning the odd cup, and challenging for the top very occasionally. He isn’t saying that due to our fan base, but it is part of it.
We don’t need to win trophies. They would be great, but the club should be allowed to be the best it can. That is what fams are fighting for.

Comment #35Man City I assume are also well run. They have Guardiola, and amazing facilities, and while they have an outrageous amount of money, they aren’t exactly wasteful with it. They invest in quality and success, but their backing means they are not a realistic yardstick for us at all. Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal, other smaller clubs, like Brighton, Leicester, Wolves etc. These are the clubs we should measure ourselves against in terms of how well we are run. It’s no disgrace to fail, it is to punch light, year in year out, getting nowhere.
