It was a disappointing afternoon at Old Trafford on Boxing Day to be sure. There were few bright spots as we made far too many individuals errors that ended up gifting Manchester United goals.
We started brightly, however, and looked to have a decent plan to get a result. The counter-attack looked quite dangerous early but we again had trouble finishing our chances.
However, Matty Longstaff stepped up once again and took his chance very well, giving Newcastle a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, Newcastle didn’t keep the same intensity while Manchester United kicked into another gear.
In addition to Matty’s goal, we thought Joelinton had one of his better games in a Newcastle shirt. He did brilliantly to hold the ball up and tap it to Matty for his goal. It was the 23-year-old’s second assist this season.
He also linked up well with Dwight Gayle early in the game. The Brazilian again created a chance for Dwight that the poacher just didn’t take.
These two players are the ones who dominate our best player poll. For the second time this season, Matty Longstaff comes out on top. The 19-year-old easily won the poll when we beat Man United at home in October. For that game, he collected 57% of the vote.
This one is a whole lot tighter as he narrowly edges out Joelinton by just 17 votes. We hope to see Matty get more games in the second half of the season. He’s got something about him and has two goals in just four appearances this season.

Comment #41But Munster everything you say isn’t true. That’s the bad part about what you say. I’m not slagging Bruce off if you could wipe the foaming spot from your eyes and look. I don’t understand why you are continually talking about benitez. You never schooled me once but you’ve tripped up in your oversize clown boots on a regular basis. And you can’t be that thick that the avatar is a protest at the owners standards of governance.
Oh I forgot you know loads of s*nlunites. But you’ve never heard one talk about “mags” in a derogatory way? You’re a foreign isle fake, mush, that’s you. Self-proclaimed naturalised O’Geordie but without the actual feel of the North East. You haven’t a clue. You and jib the Benidorm pool cleaner & satellite guy are a perfect tag team of imposters.

Comment #42Funny how they always resort to calling bloggers mackems. It’s the last resort of the defeated, it’s what they say when the armoury is totally empty.
Jib – you know how you always rib toon22 about the lack of hotels in the Haymarket? Is that a bit like you trying to be familiar with the Duke of Wellington pub by saying it was called the Welly and was in High Bridge Street? Hmmm…. Should have looked at Google maps a bit more carefully. Local boy? I think not. 😉

Comment #43I reckon toon22 wasn’t far off about jib being in media circles, all his information and “knowledge” has the definite feel of being the recollections of others. Each time he comes out with a story the narrative has a different feel and approach. They’re definitely snippets of other people’s stories garnered from various stories. Either that or he is actually 135 years old. How many postcards have you had from ‘Er Majesty, Jibbers?

Comment #47Tsunki, protest about Ashley = portraying nufc manager in red and white?? Appalling. But you slipped up when you said that you wouldn’t accept Bruce until he won’t you a trophy. You nasty bitchy primadonna. But re rafa, people now talk about his negatives. That’s a sea change. Its just as it should be. Great to see. Just took longer than it should have. Jail moving on didn’t help your noise levels. Maybe he’ll come back soon. He was sharper than you. More punch, fewer words. But either way, the more nuanced comments re benitez have quadrupled since he left, but particularly since Bruce came in and did a similar job. And that’s healthy and gratifying.

Comment #50Once we get over this run of games I think it’s time we looked at a change of system. 3 at the back has been good under the circumstances, but it’s surely not the way forward for us.
We do have the players to go 41221.
……………….Dubravka.
Scharr…Fede…Lejeune…Dummett.
………………..Hayden.
………….Shelvey….Almiron.
StMax……………………………Joelinton.
………………….Carroll.

Comment #51And the overall goal of these posters ?
To keep Jabba here as long as possible
To help him make as much money as easily as possible
Without regard for the fans the club or its future
They dont care as they aint paid to do so

Comment #52If they cant defend the situation directly they will crate a diversion
Usually by causing and argument
If thats not working by changing the subject
This is done by multiple posters using multiple accounts to give the impression of a consensus
They will have people think they shouldnt believe their own eyes or use common sense

Comment #54If Bruce is doing a similar job, where is his fair and balanced criticism? It’s amazing a manager who moved on months ago is getting criticism still yet the new manager is immune to it when there have been quite a lot of appalling performances, Munster you say you were a fan of Rafa yet you were on here complaining most of his reign, seen nothing said against Bruce seems he is immune to criticism to you, exactly what you called jail for over Rafa, same with Catchy, praises Bruce even though the style of football has not changed which he slated Rafa for

Comment #55I do believe folks on here have a right to say how they feel about the running of our club.
My thoughts are we are being screwed by the Slug AshLie.
Others dont care as long as they get to watch the match as it is their day out.
We all have different thoughts on the situation.
What annoys me is the Bile that is spouted by some if a poster says something that goes against their belief.
It used to be a free world when one could put their point of view and maybe debate over a beer, but not now with social media,we can call each other what we want without seeing the other person.
Google is a wonderful tool if you want to impress others with your knowledge

Comment #57Rob, I will criticise SB as appropriate. He is doing proportionally better than we expected. He was in charge of some awful efforts, especially Norwich and I roundly criticised him for this. But he has been vilified by some nasty people here, even before they could make a more intelligent evaluation of his work.
