Carroll, Willems, And Yedlin All Start Against Everton

This is the team Steve Bruce has selected to take on Everton this afternoon. It features four changes from Thursday.

As expected, Steve Bruce has brought back Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, and Andy Carroll after resting them against Manchester United. Javier Manquillo moves to the bench for DeAndre Yedlin.

The big surprise to us is starts for Jetro Willems and Florian Lejeune after just two days rest. It’s a very strong team but we could have a few suffering with fatigue in the second half with no options on the bench to come in for them.

This is who Carlo Ancelotti has chosen for the visitors.

This one is a massive one to close out the decade. Newcastle can keep the bottom of the table at bay with a full three points. We won’t get much higher in the table, but it’s the gap between the teams below us that is our concern right now.

So let’s hope the lads can get back on track with a rousing and comfortable win today at St James Park.

Howay The Lads!

lets see what Joelinton does today. Whilst he played “better” against Man U – I still think he is a bit of a duffer/ passenger in the team.
Think we might get beat today 2 -1 to Everton. But I hope I’m wrong.

Yedlin is coincidentally the exact same height as Richarlison—no excuses for getting beat with a hanging ball onto the back post. I would expect Everton will keep it on the deck anyway.

Free-kicks will be a big worry… Baines & Sigurdsson lining up would be panic stations.

Interesting that wolves play 352 as a their more defensive formation and switch to 343 when chasing (more attacking). With us it’s the opposite way around. Personally I prefer our 343 (451) as we look much more solid defensively, teams seem to play through our 352 too easily and the slight improvement in out attacking threat is not worth it IMO.
Seems this is what Bruce wanted to play from the start; maybe he can get it to work better with more time, but I would prefer to be ‘more safe’ before he tries to implement it. Would love to see us get safe quickly and give Bruce some space to try different formations to see what works best with our squad.

Yedlin isn’t the same height as Richarlison, don’t know where you’re getting that from. Even to the naked eye Richarlison is clearly 2-3″ taller.

Anyway, there’s a lot more to aerial ability and to a player winning a given header than height. Carroll doesn;t win them all, in fact when he crossed for Shelvey to score with an header he had just lost an aerial duel to Shane Long which is what sent him out wide.

Chance of redemption for this back 3.

The one which was universally hailed as our best.

Awful last game, let’s see if they can prove us all right.

Holgate and Keane aren’t the most physically impressive CB pairing, think our two will have joy against them. Keane is the chubby kid who went through a growth spurt, but never lost the chubbiness, one of the most overrated CBs in the league. How somebody like that has England caps over Lascelles is mystifying.

Get Almiron isolated against old man Baines and Yedlin flying at him.

Going for a win with 2 goals scored.

I think Joelinton suffers from the same condition as Prince Andrew – he doesn’t sweat.

Ya Guardian readers getting a bit unruly. Calm down boys – the country has spoken.

“Bruce is a fantastic manager.” Before you shoot, it wasn’t me! It was Ancelotti.

Difficult, difficult game against a team which is better than ours. We’re the underdogs, but we can get something out of this.

Last game of the decade! True. Didn’t think of it like that, Neil.

My mistake. I was glancing at some stats and made a blunder.

I agree height doesn’t always account for aerial ability, but it’s Yedlin’s weakness; or Ritchie’s fault in the past depending on whom you ask.

The Toon will certainly have to get over their Boxing Day horror show and tighten up at the back. Cut out the stupid suicide back and square passes and if in doubt just clear their lines . It’s not rocket science! Midfield should be stronger although I would have kept Matty in. Almiron and Joelinton must pick up AC’s knock down’s.
Anyone got a decent stream yet please as I will give them another go this afternoon?

Some hope for us in Ancelotti’s selection
He obviously has one eye on their Wednesday fixture
    away to Man City
Carlo won’t want to start off his time at Everton with a humping
of his old rival/mate Pep Guardiola.

Cyprus Why are we the underdogs with our home form of late? When alls said and done we are at SJP and have the 12th man. I know we have been grinding out results until the horrible showing at Old Trafford but at least get behind the lads – Pleeeese!

I’m definitely behind the lads, always am. Why label us underdogs? If you’d ask anyone, apart from us, they’d say Everton are a better team, despite their position.

I reckon we could have a good crack at getting 3 points today. I am expecting a decent performance from Joelinton (don’t think we have seen one yet?) maybe even a goal. We look a bit one dimensional without ASM, but forever the optimist I think we’ll get the 3 points.

To think what Salah got a penalty for here last season, a touch on his shoulder from Dummett ‘causing’ his legs to collapse, then you see that on Almiron with the benefit of VAR too. Joke really.
