Pundit Makes Intriguing New Year’s Day Prediction For Newcastle Vs. Leicester

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his predictions for the Premier League matches on New Year’s Day. He has shockingly picked Newcastle for a 2-0 victory.

Here is his prediction in full:

Newcastle are very difficult to predict. They don’t lose many games at home but against Everton last time out they were outplayed before coming back – only to be undone by a sucker punch.

In fairness to Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, he made nine changes in the last game at West Ham and still got a win. That’s good management. He knows he has got players who can come in, win games, and not seriously weaken the side.

However, I fancy Newcastle to bounce back in this one.

Despite picking Newcastle, he doesn’t really give any specific reasons for his selection other than a feeling he has. For the Everton match, Lawro picked a 1-1 draw, which snapped a string for correct predictions in Newcastle matches.

We certainly hope that he gets back to picking Newcastle games accurately as a 2-0 win would be a magnificent way to start 2020.

However, it is going to be very tough to pull it off. Steve Bruce has so many players out that he’s had to draft Kelland Watts into the first-team. We could see the 20-year-old make his debut tomorrow.

Bruce also has to tread lightly with players like Florian Lejeune and Andy Carroll. We could see both of them rested for tomorrow, weakening the team even further.

We’ll see if it’s our day tomorrow against Ayoze Perez and the Foxes. In the Carabao Cup in August, the lads put in an admirable performance eventually losing in a penalty shootout.

Hopefully, we can get something from this one and start 2020 off with a positive result.

What Will Be The Result Against Leicester City On New Year's Day?

Lindisfarne @ 57-58 (two threads back): some of Bruce’s decisions appeared too simplistic to me as well. I, for once thought, he put Longstaff brothers against MU probably because that combination gave us a result in the reverse fixture. But then could a manager, with more than 20years’ experience be that simplistic? I thought may be not.

Baptism with fire often works out, though. Matty Longstaff himself comes to mind. Of course, he didn’t have to face LC.

New gravatar for the new year, it’s a message to our favourite person. Not a nasty one, I try not to do nasty 🙂

It’s a sigil based on the Saturn magic square.

I’ll explain if it seems to be working!

Lawro’s prediction would have us relegated probably every single season. Although, I must admit making a bet on whether someone would hit a jackpot is difficult and that’s what we have been doing better part of this season – hitting jackpots. I went for a loss against LC though.

EGB @3: I for once thought your avatar is NUFC’s trajectory through part-time with segments going -ve x direction representing deja vu incidents. Am I correct?
