Lejeune, Manquillo, And Muto All Start Against The Foxes

This is the team Bruce has selected for the match today against Leicester City. As usual, we were way off in our prediction. To think we had Kelland Watts in the starting eleven, and he hasn’t even made the squad.

It’s just two changes from Everton with the surprise selection of Yoshinori Muto, who comes in for Andy Carroll. Javier Manquillo resumes his role at right wing-back.

Bruce is going to go with Florian Lejeune in the back three after his struggles this past weekend. Joelinton and Fabian Schar also shake off knocks to keep their place.

This is the starting eleven that Brendan Rodgers has decided on. It’s the third start for former Magpie Ayoze Perez against us. But there’s no Jamie Vardy to be found, which is good news.

The Foxes sit in second place in the Premier League while Newcastle are in 11th. A loss today could really see us tumble down the table, but it is what it is.

A good performance is expected, especially taking into consideration what happened in the away fixture earlier this year. Hopefully, we’ll get a pleasant surprise, and the lads can start 2020 on the right foot.

Howay The Lads!

Newcastle United fan group urge Mike Ashley to sell up after ‘kick in the teeth’ for supporters

    https://www.shieldsgazette.com/sport/football/newcastle-united/newcastle-united-fan-group-urge-mike-ashley-sell-after-kick-teeth-supporters-1352515

“The club’s move to give away 10,000 free half-season tickets is a cynical attempt to direct attention from the fact that fans are boycotting the stadium, but also a kick in the teeth for season ticket holders that have seen the price of their tickets rise 25 per cent across the last two seasons. It’s not an act of charity, it’s an act of desperation.

“Giving away thousands of season tickets free of charge is completely unsustainable. Will the club give away season tickets in the summer? Should season tickets bother renewing, or should they just wait for what could now be the inevitability of the club dishing them out to fans for free at the end of this season?

Providing Lejeune is fit I don’t see it as a gamble playing him, he’s a quality player who will improve with games under his belt.

Can’t see us getting anything today.

Thought we might go 4 at the back and have a Longstaff in the midfield to try and stop the likes of Maddison and Tielemans getting time on the ball.

    Huge call on Lejuene!!

Good to see Muto starting, imagine Bruce wants to give him a chance before possibly offloading him this month.

I’m surprised Lejeune is starting, having said that, there is little alternative available currently, so it would have meant a complete tactical rework, and there just hasn’t been the time to work on it in training to allow for that.

Be interesting to see how Muto does, a bit like Gayle, I don’t think he has been appearing for the u23’s. He is likely to be lacking match sharpness, which, as a striker can be vital.

Other than that, no real talking points, and likely to be little change in style or approach.

Looking forward to seeing what Perez does when he scores against us, will he celebrate or not.
Big chance for Muto today, he won’t get another one.
Think Leicester will edge us today, would certainly take the draw now.

I gather Hayden will be slotting in at CB if one of the three CB’s pick up a knock. I don’t think Hayden would have much trouble adapting.

Muto for carroll hopefully means the ball may stay on the ground a bit more.

    Lindis

You say lower league teams have time to pass the ball around better. I think you’ve just been conditioned to Bruce’s style which is not pass and move, compared to almost every other club in the PL, bar Burnley. Plenty of teams are easy on the eye in the PL, even Sheffield utd who have no super stars at all but are coached properly to pass the ball and tactically to find space. Every game with us it’s count 1,2,3 and launch.

Rotonda yes but Sheffield United have develop that style over a period of time adding certain players to compliment it. You can’t just turn up at a club and completely change the style of play!
