Newcastle In Shambles Down 2-0 At The Half

Newcastle came out in what appeared to be a 3-4-3 with Almiron on the left and Muto on the right. Leicester were immediately on the front foot.

Martin Dubravka was put to work with a massive save in the third minute from a Leicester corner. He was called into action several more times in the first 20 minutes which saw the Foxes with close to 75% possession.

Newcastle had a brilliant chance in the 25th minute as Jonjo Shelvey’s deep pass found Joelinton behind the Leicester defense. The Brazilian controlled it well but was forced wide by Caglar Soyuncu and he couldn’t threaten Kaspar Schmeichel in goal.

In the 36th minute, it was another horrendous defensive error as Florian Lejeune played a pass across the box but Ayoze Perez intercepted it and, despite Fabian Schar’s best efforts, found the back of the net.

Just a few minutes later, the Frenchman made a second mental mistake. He tried to clear the ball down the left but it was a tame effort. Ayoze Perez came away with the ball and centered a pass to James Maddison just outside the box.

The 23-year-old fired a rocket into the top corner giving Dubravka no chance. Florian Lejeune just should not be playing 4 games in 10 days. It was a terrible decision to start him.

Half-time couldn’t come soon enough as Leicester City continued to open us up and looked destined for a third. While they thankfully weren’t able to get another, Newcastle suffered two more injuries.

In the 45th minute, Jetro Willems went down and had to be replaced by DeAndre Yedlin. Just a few minutes later Javier Manquillo was brought off for Emil Krafth.

We must be the easiest team in the league to beat in situations like this, we just give up and look like we just want the final whistle while playing at a friendly tempo, if we was 2-0 up we would put everyone behind the ball and sit in our half and give the opposition no choice but to have attack after attack

Before they scored I fancied us to score, we were pressing high and had opportunities. However there was alot of space between midfield and centre backs. When they pressed mistakes krept in perhaps because of the same gap and limited passing options.

343 is becoming 721 as soon as we lose possession. Or should I say 6-1/2 – 1-1/2 – 1/2; given Lejeune, Shelvey and Joelinton are unfit. Being unable to contain the 3 LC midfielders. Steve Bruce is a genius though. He will have something up in his sleeve.

Well BBC and the guardian commentary are saying we are awful – think it was job who posted ASM for 20 million or Perez for 30 …. Definitely Perez – not as exciting but scores and makes goals as well as linking play

Missed the first half but don’t worry, I’m here now! Come back is on!!
    Lol!

Did say earlier if that we give the ball away easily and Leicester like that. Leading to both goals apparently.

    Cdog
Don’t sound too happy if joelinton misses a chance. I mean it must mean he’s the only player or attacker to have done that before!
Good way to judge a player though, top job!

Sounds like Willems has had enough of playing for toon or maybe he was just brought back too early – was also surprised to find leneune starting yet again given that Bruce himself had said 3 games in a row was too much for him after injury but then starts him again

Not surprising that that we’ve picked up injuries. Gambling on players fitness is an unnecessary risk. Joelinton was a doubt but us being risked too. Shelley not coming out now either!
    Subs all done lol.

    More injuries to follow?

Bruce screwed this, playing Florian again and again after his lengthy layoff is the dumbest thing he could have done.

Well SB, you think now we need some players in the Jan window?

Lindisfarne, I’m not sure why you would think we would score. I’m sick of this strategy of continually conceding possession. It’s pathetic. We have to show some intent. If this was boxing the authorities would withhold our purse.
We haven’t laid a Glove on them.
Bruce will blame injuries while also saying he doesn’t want to use it as an excuse.

Jibs footballing knowledge is shit, all this dickhead knows is to insult people on this blog and talk down his nose 2 fellow bloggers, any1 who thought 30m for perez was good business when we didnt replace him with a proven scorer is nuts, we never replaced either goal scorer from last season, wel c come april just how good rafa was, yes he had his fault but made cheap players in2 a solid unit that wer very hard 2 beat, dummet is 1 of our best defenders yet alot on here think hes crap cos he cant attack, hes a defender ffs, defend first and foremost, same complainers and booers at sjp wil b ther for the next home game too and the same said persons r the reason the fcb wil never leave, its so embarrassing its laughable

We just keep gifting chances because we have defenders who do not have an outlet.

They have had 75% possession which speaks volumes.

Our midfielders are just another row of defenders.

We have nothing up front, Joelinton could turn out decent, but we cannot afford to wait for a £40 million outlay to take 25-30 games to score.
Not having a go at the lad, I would of signed if I had been offered his deal.

This is again down to ‘ he who always wants a profit ‘ – rather than sign the players we needed.

Now Schàr is buggered – get him off !

Patoon , dummet gets slated because he’s a good defender but not the greatest attacker , schar gets slated because he’s a great attacking defender who can’t defend as well …go figure

    Jesus this is ugly.

Got no players left going forward. Means he’ll be rushing others back again.

    Nightmare.

We’re back in a relegation scrap all through our own fault over the period of 3 matches.

Amazing – I’m not one to make such special case statements usually, but it really feels like it could only happen to us.

Take him off Bruce. Don’t want him out there with an injury in a game that is gone.
