This is the team we predict Steve Bruce will select for the Third Round of the FA Cup this afternoon. It features six changes from the loss against Leicester City. Since Paul Dummett has been ruled out, we’ve slightly altered it from our original prediction.
With Dummett unavailable, we think Bruce will use Emil Krafth at left-back. He hinted yesterday morning that DeAndre Yedlin could play a part, so maybe he’ll start at right-back.
Bruce could be bringing four youngsters with the team to Spotdale. They are Ludwig Francillette, Lewis Cass, Tom Allan, and Elias Sorensen. Maybe one of the two defenders could get a start alongside Federico Fernandez, but we are going with Isaac Hayden to play center-back this afternoon.
Yoshinori Muto deserves a start in our opinion and could be deployed with Joelinton slightly behind him. This is a similar formation to the one used at Leicester City in September.
Bruce could have up to 11 players unavailable, depending on Ki Sung-yueng and Matt Ritchie. Ritchie was slated to make the bench today, so hopefully, that will be the case.
Jamaal Lascelles – leg, Allan Saint-Maximin – hamstring, Ciaran Clark – calf, Paul Dummett – groin, Javier Manquillo – hamstring, Fabian Schar -hamstring, Jonjo Shelvey – hamstring, Jetro Willems – groin, Andy Carroll – undisclosed, Ki Sung-yueng – illness (late fitness test), Matt Ritchie – ankle (late fitness test)
Our poll result for this match shows that a slim majority of Newcastle fans are picking a win. Just over half of the 2,150 votes think Newcastle will progress to the Fourth Round.
However, quite a few think we’ll lose today. We hope that doesn’t happen but this is not going to be an easy match to win. A further 13% are predicting a replay at St James Park.
