Newcastle Have Potential To Face Another League One Club In FA Cup Fourth Round

The winner of Newcastle and Rochdale have drawn Oxford United in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.

Newcastle have the potential of two straight FA Cup matches at St James Park. We first have to take care of some unfinished business and beat Rochdale in the third round replay, which is scheduled for next Tuesday evening.

This is again a generous draw for Steve Bruce and the Magpies if we can get past Rochdale. Oxford United are currently fourth in League One and defeated Hartlepool 4-1 on Saturday to advance.

Steve Bruce wants to make a run at the FA Cup. However, things got off to a rocky start on Saturday when we only managed a draw. However, Newcastle have been given an excellent opportunity to get beyond the fourth round for the first time in the Ashley era.

Meslier looks a good keeper, although he has not had a save to make yet. Unlike his opposite number in the home end.

Never thought I’d be saying bring back Joselu but Lets face it, he scored more than our current lot. I’ll believe Giroud, Bashuyi(?) and Bowen when I see them in black and white.

It’s incredible after all these years of managers having a hard time here people cite other managers and what they’re achieving and what they could do here. Wake up and smell the coffee, a manager can’t beva success when the chairman and owner are actively working against you. Well run clubs have everyone on the same page wanting to deliver success. Ashley and Churnley aren’t bothered about success.

We’ll very much most likely beat both Rochdale and Oxford at home if our injury crisis eases. We lack two or three of quality in midfield and attack to be a top half EPL proposition over a season, but given a decent group of available players to choose from we are far too strong for League One opposition at home in the Cups barring fairly extraordinary circumstance.

Also, as poor as it at first sounds, I’d take Glenn Murray on loan till the end of the season, so long as we also get the upgrade in the centre of the park we most sorely need. He’d certainly be a better option for us than Muto, Gayle and Joelinton up top.

Carroll, with Murray as cover, would allow us to use Joelinton in a more natural position for him and that would improve us, but the injection of extra pace, vigour and forward passing is most important, as we desperately need to get forward in support of our target man far better than we have been.

Joselu didn’t have the belief he was good enough, seeing our current lot he’d have thought he was Marco Van Basten and we’d probably have had about 8 goals out of him do far.

Glenn Murray is one of the old fashioned experienced striker that knows all the sly dirty tricks to get the edge over a defender. Quite depressing that we’d be going for him. Even more depressing that he could probably make a positive impact on the team. Won’t get anywhere near the penalties he got at Brighton though.

Nketiah being recalled by arsenal. I do like him. Didn’t play much at Leeds but a real hot prospect and a natural finisher. I like him and heard lots of good things about him. Kind of disappointing he’s not playing tonight.

Must be a north – south mentality but Arsenal seem like a scummy bunch rather like cheating Chelsea of old.
Pity Leeds can’t get the replay at Elland Road as that would be fun

Olivier Giroud’s preferred destination this January is believed to be Inter Milan.
The Chelsea forward is considering reuniting with former boss Antonio Conte ahead of Premier League interest from Aston Villa and NUFC. [Telegraph]

If you think Jails being boring pointing out the state of the club why do you persist in pointing out how other managers at other teams have us succeeded?

By you own measure you are being the same as you accuse

Rafa was great for us so I am reluctant to criticize him, but I do think signing Gayle, on EPL wages, was a mistake, when we already had Mitro.

Mitro and Carroll, with Almirón, St Max and Joelinton, that’s a good group of attacking players.

We’ve had one decent season out of Gayle, and frankly we never really needed him.

Giroud would be fantastic, and we should be going all out if there is even a remote chance of getting him, but again, more important is the injection of extra pace, vigorous running, and forward passing in central midfield.

You criticise Jail for being “boring and repetitive”! Nothing is more boring than your pathetic attempts to support the regime!
There is one over riding and inescapable fact at our club; Ashley and his cohorts are slowly killing NUFC!
It’s impossible for proper fans to be positive in this situation so why are you?
