While incomings will be the focal point of this winter’s transfer activity, there’s also the business of finding new clubs for both Jamie Sterry and Henri Saivet.
Both were not handed a squad number this season and were not used in either the Carabao Cup or FA Cup despite being eligible for both and Newcastle having fitness issues heading into both matches.
The club, unfortunately, will have no option but to keep Jack Colback and pay his wages until his contract runs out in the summer. Colback injured his knee in training and faces a recovery of four months.
Jamie Sterry’s contract also runs out in the summer. The 24-year-old has featured heavily for Ben Dawson’s U23s this season, making a total of 13 starts.
The Chronicle have identified two clubs who are interested in the Newcastle born right-back. They also say there are many other EFL clubs interested in Sterry, but they remain unidentified.
Last placed Championship club Luton Town have reportedly been offered Sterry. While League One’s Ipswich have already looked at the defender as they hope to mount a promotion push back to the Championship. They are currently in 5th place.
Newcastle will need to offload both Sterry and Saivet, whose contract still has 18-months remaining. Then for any incoming signing, a member of the 25 man squad will also have to leave. So there is a lot of work to do this month.

Comment #2At NUFC the real transfer news, until the last day, is always about players leaving. It is too bad some few on the squad are physically fit to leave. That must irk MA to no end….
