Report – Newcastle To Miss Out On Another Striker Target

The Sun is reporting that Tottenham have agreed on a deal worth £28m for AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek.

Spurs will pay an initial £23.8m upfront. Then there is £4.2m worth of add-ons. The 24-year-old is set to sign for 3 1/2 years and is due for a medical this weekend.

With Harry Kane out until April with a hamstring injury, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has identified the Polish international as his replacement. He’s wasted little time in trying to get Piatek in.

Once Tottenham became involved, we stood little chance of landing the striker. Newcastle wanted a loan deal but Spurs have shelled out a decent bid for Piatek.

Newcastle could try to match the bid as we should have the initial £23.8m available. However, Spurs is a much more attractive prospect for a player with ambition than Newcastle currently are.

He should also get game time initially with Harry Kane out for three months. However, Piatek may end up being just a back-up once Kane returns.

This one is disappointing as we really rate Piatek even with his dip in form this season. However, this one was always a bit of a longshot.

We also thought he would want to remain at Milan and they would not sell him for less than the £30m they paid for him.

Newcastle will still have many targets identified to bring in. Yesterday, there were reports of a bid for Club Brugge forward Emannuel Dennis. We’ll see if anything develops on that front.

I bet the Spurs fans are amazed at their team shelling out that kind of money on a forward, too – parsimony has been the default mode at Spurs for years.

about Piatek i read earlier the deal for him going to spurs is in the early stages not there ( yet ) . Then Mourinho comes out and says he can work around not having Kane . so does it mean they are buying him or are they gonna wait till Kane gets fit and make do with what they have ? or is it all paper talk ? god i hate the January transfer window …

Jail, agreed that Joelinton needs to be taken out of the firing line. The trouble with throwing players into the deep end is that sometimes they’ll swim but often they’ll sink, Joelinton has done the latter and needs to be given a bit of time out of the pool to shake himself off and hopefully come back stronger.

That Number 9 shirt is a funny thing – some like Rondon carry it lightly, others seem to find it an ever-increasing burden.

I’m not writing the lad off yet, but he definitely needs some TLC and for the fans not to give him cr@p. If I were Bruce I’d give Carroll the start vs Wolves and Joelinton the start vs Rochdale in the hope he can bag a couple at home to boost his confidence.
