Alan Shearer Pleased With Point Under Trying Circumstances

Alan Shearer has taken to Twitter to voice his happiness with Newcastle’s result against Wolves.

We wholeheartedly agree with Alan that this is a very good point. While Wolves were not at their best, Newcastle were dealt two early blows with Paul Dummett and Dwight Gayle being forced off in the first half.

Dummett’s injury in the 12th minute disrupted our rhythm after Miguel Almiron had fired us to an early lead. Then to have Dwight Gayle come off less than twenty minutes later was another massive setback.

However, Newcastle held out to end the half level. While we started the second half precariously, we were the match of Wolves much of the half.

We did rely on Martin Dubravka to save us a couple of time, but the lads put in a heroic performance this afternoon under trying circumstances.

Who Was The Man Of The Match In Draw At Wolves?

  • Martin Dubravka (52%, 1,112 )
  • Miguel Almiron (43%, 932 )
  • Matty Longstaff (1%, 27 )
  • Joelinton (1%, 25 )
  • Andy Carroll (1%, 11 )
  • Isaac Hayden (0%, 7 )
  • Jetro Willems (0%, 6 )
  • Ciaran Clark (0%, 6 )
  • Paul Dummett (0%, 4 )
  • Dwight Gayle (0%, 4 )
  • Christian Atsu (0%, 4 )
  • Sean Longstaff (0%, 4 )
  • Federico Fernandez (0%, 3 )
  • Florian Lejeune (0%, 2 )

Atsu terrible, Joelinton when he moved into the middle terrible (although very isolated). It really annoys me the way we just pump it forward when under no pressure the team don’t look after the ball at all!

Second half we pressed (when in our half) really well and aggressive especially the longstaffs.

Lookman would be ideal now to compete with ASM and Almiron for wide attacking positions. We desperately need a striker as well. If we get them two we will stay up comfortably if not it will be a fight to the very end.

I was calling for us to sign Troare for a good while when he was at Boro. Anyone who can beat players so easily will always cause problems at any level.

    Me too jib.

    He’s technically better.

Although Traore is the most athletic player in the league by a mile. Ridiculous how fast and strong he is. Noone is close lol.

Just interviewed Steve Bruce in the tunnel. Says in all his time in football he has never seen anything like Newcastle’s current injury situation. Says he needs to investigate if there is an inherent problem and not just bad luck.

wouldn’t want lookman competing with asm and almiron, I would want all 3 on the pitch at the same time, maybe even 1 one of them playing down the middle or as a slightly withdrawn false number 9.

Gayle injured a lot and may be off, Joelinton needs to be a sub and carroll should only come on if we’re chasing a game with last 15/20 mins.

would suggest questions need asked of the fitness and conditioning people plus he has to take some responsibility himself for asm and lejeune especially.

I’ve only really seen ASM since he came so that’s not enough to make a clear comparison with Troare but he’s definitely my favourite player for us and I rate him highly. Yes if Lookman comes then all 3 on the pitch will be good for me!

Traore under Nuno has an end product now, much like when pep got sterling to lose his headless chicken ways.

Bruce has sit down with his coaches and try and sort these injuries out, is he getting the wrong feedback from the players, are players being rushed back, is it the coaching and match preparation, is our warm up routine not fit for purpose, why so many muscle injuries why are players coming back only to pull up in there first game back something in the pre match preparation is not right and its costing us !!!!!!!!!!!!

Good to hear that Bruce is willing to acknowledge injuries might not be solely down to bad luck. The first step is admitting there’s a problem, not reverting to superstition.

Good point. I’d like to hear it from the horses mouth myself, or at least see the full statement/interview.

Maybe I was too quick to grasp on to a rare hint common sense.

Trouble is what happens if Almiron shines for the rest of the season and a “properly run football club” make a 40/50 mill offer?

Back to the top of the injury league.

We’re pretty bad to watch these days. ASM is really the only excitement we see on the pitch. Granted the rest of the team are grafters but the only other player that drives us forward is Miggy. We don’t really seem to have any powerful and pacy players that can burst from midfield and even if we did our movement is so predictable we probably still wouldn’t get any where.

That being said, it was a good point in the end and the team put in a shift. I’m sure we’ll get better to watch as our injured players return. It would be nice to see some possession based football at the toon but until then i’m happy with every ugly point the team can get.
