Bruce To Have In-Depth Look At Chronic Problem

Steve Bruce has given his post-match interviews after what was a good point at Wolves this afternoon. However, it was again a game disrupted by early injuries.

The past six weeks has been so frustrating with muscle injuries and it’s likely cost us a number of points. That includes today as Newcastle looked ready to take on Wolves with an early lead.

However, Paul Dummett coming off led to a shuffling of the backline right before a corner kick that resulted in a Wolves goal. We also lost all of our attacking prowess once Dwight Gayle went off in the 28th minute. The 29-year-old was causing problems and looked very sharp before injuring his groin.

An inquest has to be done to find out what is behind this ridiculous situation with injuries. It’s become untenable and serious questions need to be asked about the training sessions as well as the facilities.

The Chronicle have published these comments from a proud but very frustrated Steve Bruce:

“I thought we looked very, very dangerous and scored a great goal.

“Unfortunately, and I never really try to make injuries a thing as they’re part and parcel of the game, to lose two and maybe lost three as Joelinton is nowhere near fit but managed to carry on.

When you take a look at the problems we’ve had. I’ve never experienced in the 40 years the problems we’ve had. Nearly having to make three subs before 40 minutes again is ridiculous.

“So look, we’ll have an in-depth look at it and now we’ve got 10, 12 injuries. When you look at all the problems we’ll take a point here and the resilience was there to be seen.

“We lacked a bit of quality but their effort and endeavor to get a point was excellent and I’m delighted we got one.”

We’ll take the point today under the adverse circumstances. However, Wolves were there for the taking today and Newcastle looked primed to get a massive three points at Molineux.

However, we’ve had a major setback with two injuries that killed our promising start. We remain in the 13th place as the bottom half of the table has barely changed after today’s result.

Tomorrow we could see some teams below us make up major ground depending on how Aston Villa, Bournemouth, and Watford fare.

brilliant win for Rotherham at Oxford takes them top including an assist for Dan Barlaser..

“The striker ran on to Dan Barlaser’s ball through the middle to lob Simon Eastwood after 33 minutes and make it 2-0.”

40 million for a “striker” nobody else wanted
Jabba was happy to mug of a manager and not haggle in any way, he was desperate to buy the guy
There was no long protracted rubbish weve had for 13 years

Nope he was desperate to buy him

Might you explain why JIB ?

He does need to spend a bit more now though too. The money is there and we can sell one or two to add to it. We need one or two upgrades in the right positions to be safe. It’s one thing to say the club needs to wipe its own nose, quite another to fail to act to guarantee safety, which we’ve seen more than once from this owner.

I’m really enjoying the fact we have a number of academy graduates around the squad this season. I know some have been enforced through injuries or lack of investment in those positions but it’s always encouraging to see more local lads getting opportunities.

There’s no reason we shouldn’t have all the best talent from the North East and I hope we can continue seeing them coming through for years to come.

Thought we played well until the injuries although Fernandez basically gifted then there equaliser – very poor defensive mistake to let him get away from him.
Once Gayle went off we were basically backs to the wall and having Linton 50p head playing as a lone striker is like playing with 10 men – Bruce unfortunately didn’t really have any options with only one sub left and so long to go in game although he should have subbed Linton on 65 – 70 mins.
All in all a decent point under the circumstances – Wolves are not a great side though and a shame we couldn’t get the win – we’ll have a few back for Chelsea and I think we can beat them – Dubravka easily motm for me , miggy ran him close – the effort that guy puts in is unbelievable and very happy he got another goal.
Sean Longstaff needs to be taken off set piece delivery duty – he’s terrible

Toon22. Sometimes getting chucked in can be the making of a player. I’ll admit it’s not necessarily the best way but I remember from my own time playing and coaching it’s often the only way that younger players get their start.

This place is vicious even when we get a result. Some guys wud prefer we lose and they can vent against ‘the traitor’. A win or two and the narrative of this season will be going in a radically opposite direction to what they predicted. Or wanted.

We did score an excellent goal. Shut them down and won the ball further up the pitch, great instinctive first time forward pass from Sean Longstaff, terrific chest down from Gayle to Willems, who is so dangerous with the ball at his feet in the final third, great running and lay off again from Gayle, and lovely finish from Almiron with his weaker peg. That’s a top notch counter attacking goal right there. Bang, win the ball, and moments later, back of the net.

I agree on Clark sorting the backline. He’s a very underrated player.

Also someone mentioned Hayden not getting an England call up, it’s criminal. He’s streets ahead of Delph and Declan Rice but Southgate just won’t pick our players. I’d even pick Matty Longstaff over them 2 and that’s not me being biased.

Same with Lascelles who was in the form of his Life not long ago then boom Michael Keane and Mings get call ups ahead of him whilst being central to both their defences falling apart whenever a striker ran at them.

Good win by Southampton – looks like they’ll pull away from us – really need to get something from Chelsea game and beat Everton who are pretty much crap, guess it depends who is back – if we play Linton up top on his own we’ll get nowt for sure – Gayle is probably our best option in a front line with ASM and Miggy so hopefully his groin strain is minor – Linton will have to play instead of ASM until he can return and he definitely looks happier playing that role but generally he’s not great there either – I just don’t think he fits our team in any position, terrible as a lone striker and average on the left / right or second striker – if he cost 10 million he’d be benched

Bruce the serial failure at this level is going to have an in depth look at the chronic injury problem currently hindering Sports Direct FC.I would suggest calling a board meeting Brucie behind barred closed doors and then detonating two or maybe three hand grenades, that should help sort the problem out.

Gayle’s hamstring injury is quite a blow, can’t play him obviously, but maybe even worse, can’t sell him this window now.

Can’t shift Muto either now, if we are now looking at a more mobile centre forward than Carroll and Joel, and can’t play that way now unless we can another mobile central striker in.

We are probably now looking at returning to Carroll or Joel up top, with Gayle out for a while, which makes a quality box to box centre mid top priority this window.

Pointless playing a big target man and not getting up in support.

We’ve got 26 points, we need to get forward more now, so enough of the dropping off. Play a higher line, win the ball higher up the pitch, push the wing backs on, pass forward, get players up and on the ball in the final third.

That’s what’s needed, so we require that top box to box mid to drive us on, or we need to play 3 behind the target man, two holding mid and a back 4.
