Dummett, Gayle, And The Longstaff Brothers All Start At Wolves

This is the team Steve Bruce will field today at Wolves. It features four changes from the FA Cup match at Rochdale.

It looks like Steve Bruce could be using Isaac Hayden as a right-back with no natural right-backs in the squad today. We’re not sure if it’s going to be 5-3-2 or a 5-2-3 with Joelinton moved out wide.

However, it is a surprise start for Dwight Gayle with Andy Carroll only making the bench. We’ll see both Ciaran Clark and Paul Dummett make their long-awaited returns this afternoon.

The Longstaff brothers will make their second straight start together in the midfield. It’s great to see a couple of local lads in Kelland Watts and Tom Allan make the trip.

This is the starting eleven for our hosts this afternoon.

Most Newcastle fans won’t be expecting too much from this one. However, they will be expecting a better defensive display. We need to cut out the defensive errors that have plagued our recent run of bad form.

Howay The Lads!

Hayden at RWB then? Does good work on the RW when he ventures out there, but how much of that is because of the unexpected element of pushing on from CM into channels. Different when you’re starting out there to get that kind of space. His delivery is usually very good and overlooked.

Showing himself to be a real asset this season though, most consistent performer and now showing his versatility.

Joelinton and Gayle will be interesting. Gayle needs a goal as much as Joelinton does.

Not expecting much, if we can get a point to stop the rot I will be happy..

That team sheet is giving me a headache. Hayden is possibly playing RWB if Bruce is sticking with his known formation.

I don’t see Allan or Watts getting on, subs will most likely be, Carrol, Ritchie and Atsu if there’s no enforced changes cos of injuries.

Hayden will need to stay on his feet as much as possible. He will be a card magnet playing RWB and prone to going in with crunching tackles.

Oh and delighted we have some actual defenders back in the 3 and Fernandez can get back to his position where he plays best on the right side.

… it may be Isaac Hayden as emergency right wing-back – with Manquillo/Krafth/Yedlin injured – the position he played during Benitez’s final game in charge at Craven Cottage last May, too

Hmmm pretty awful team, luckily Traore is in my dream team so good chance is he’s getting alot of points today.

Longstaff brothers fills me with no confidence in the middle against Moutinho and Neves. Luckily none of the CM’s on show have any pace just theirs have much more class.

    3-0 if we play well

The bookies think we’re playing Barcelona, or that there’s a massive chasm between these two.

Odds too good to ignore, 10:50 Newcastle win. Gone with a three big ones (Euros, that is) bet.

We need a massive performance from the Longstaff bros. And they need to stay compact when defending and not start wandering all over the pitch

The two Longstaffs together in midfield, Gayle up top I assume, Hayden at RWB, doesn’t look such a great side. Still, football, funny old game, so who know’s, but not all that confident seeing that starting 11.

I understand there’s no fit recognized right back, but Sean needs Hayden beside him I think. Gayle, just not a hugely influential figure at this level, and Matty has skill and running, but just doesn’t have the experience. Difficult afternoon in store probably.

game like wolves are the likes that we must defend deep and let them have the ball and keep it tight and hope to nick it with a fluke goal.

but bruce being the hopeless manager he is, will instead go for it today. and that will be our undoing as our attack is non-existent.

    Wolves 4 Newcastle 0
a thrashing is on the cards.
