Newcastle Lose Two To Injury In 1-1 First Half At Molineux

Newcastle have put in a performance so far at Molineux this afternoon but have again suffered an injury crisis with two players picking up knocks. Bruce was forced to replace Paul Dummett and Dwight Gayle with more muscle injuries.

Newcastle came out in a 5-4-1 with Joelinton on the right and Almiron on the left. Dwight Gayle led the line, but Joelinton moved upfront with him when in possession. Isaac Hayden again played in defense, this time at right wing-back.

It didn’t take long for Newcastle to take an early lead. Minutes after firing a shot wide, Miguel Almiron got his third goal for Newcastle. Jetro Willems did well down the left flank to get a cross in that found Dwight Gayle.

Gayle did brilliantly to get the ball to the trailing Almiron, who obliged with another outstanding finish. He’s in some goalscoring form now.

Paul Dummett’s return to the team lasted all of 12 minutes as he was forced off with another injury. Florian Lejeune was brought on for Dummett, but the Frenchman moved into the middle of the back three with Ciaran moving to the left.

Very poor defending led to the equalizer just a few minutes later. On a corner, Federico Fernandez didn’t close down Leander Dendoncker quick enough, and the ball fell to the Belgian who tapped it past Dubravka.

Newcastle continued to play well but were forced to make a second change when Dwight Gayle suffered a hamstring injury in the 28th minute. The 29-year-old was replaced by Christian Atsu. It was the best we’d seen of Dwight all season as he was causing Wolves problems with his movement and work rate.

Martin Dubravka was called into action to save Newcastle once again as he made a spectacular save on a Raul Jimenez header from point-blank range in the 34th minute.

Joelinton received treatment on the pitch in the 38th minute with what looked like a groin injury. Andy Carroll was out warming up, but the Brazilian was able to continue.

We hope Newcastle emerge from the tunnel without having to make a third change before the second half like against Leicester City. They’ll also need to be ready for a likely Wolves surge in this second-half.

At St James Park, Wolves came out and were outstanding in the second half to get a 1-1 draw. Hopefully, that is fresh in Steve Bruce’s mind and he can have the lads ready.

A battling display. Well earned draw. Good point at a very difficult opponent.

Said I’d take it before the match to stop the rot. So satisfied enough.

    Ancient

Traore was linked to us in 2018 but went to Wolves. Was Rafa backed that summer?

If we would have had a pacy forward there when Matty Longstaff passes the ball we might have nicked victory. Oh well.

Atsu could do more, Big Andy chasing everything yet he is half-hearted in my opinion.

I would of taken a point at 3pm

Good result considering Wolves’ form this season. One point better than none.

I expected a loss so can’t complain, Almiron was class and Dubs saved us several times… We desperately need a new striker NOW.. Shame because we looked good with Gayle on

Almiron & dubs saved us today. Almiron defending work was absolutely brilliant. he has the intelligence to keep Traore in check.

if almiron gets injured we are royally screwed. he’s the one player who is quietly saving us from getting a drubbing.

Well overall it’s a good point. Performance from both teams was disappointing, however I would say it’s over shadowed by one of the worst performances I’ve seen from a referee and his team. Decisions wrong for and against both teams.

Probably no penalties as we have no athletic strikers charging into the penalty area about to score, Almiron being the exception.

Suggest that Bruce acts like a farmer and brings the players into the warmth of the training barn to keep them warm r
    to reduce injuries
