Darlow, Lascelles, And Ritchie All Start Against Rochdale

This is the team Steve Bruce has selected for tonight’s FA Cup replay against Rochdale. It has six changes from the draw at Wolves

Steve Bruce wasn’t kidding when he said he’d field a strong team today. This is a very strong side that should be able to take care of Rochdale.

Bruce has brought Jamaal Lascelles straight back into the starting eleven and handed Matt Ritchie his first start since August.

The formation appears to be a 3-4-3 with either Emil Krafth or Isaac Hayden slotting in as one of the back three.

Only Tom Allan makes the bench from the U23s.

Here is the team that Rochdale will field. Both Luke Matheson and Aaron Wilbraham are on from the start in this one.

This is a golden opportunity that the lads just cannot let go to waste. A meeting at St James Park against League One Oxford is in the balance.

Let’s put this one to bed early and get Tom Allan his Newcastle United debut.

Howay The Lads!

We should have taken care of them first time around and the weather could be a big equaliser tonight.

So they guys who said Bruce would play weak teams to preserve prem status and appease Ashley are talking pants. There’s a thing. I’d like to see Miggy rested but am not sure what his injury profile is like.

Go on toooooon!! Hope Joelinton bags a brace and sean longstaff one for some confidence.

Almost just a big of a goal tonight is to get everyone through the match unscathed.

Think you will see Bruce make some early subs if we manage to bag a couple before the half

the formation could be anything with that 11. could go 4 at the back, 343 or anything so will be interesting to see how we set up.

Even with injuries, we should be comfortably seeing this through.

Why does anyone care what a player costs?

Atsu cost 6 million Murphy cost 12 Almerion cost 20 big Joe cost 40. The thing that separates all of them is effort, because up until recently they all contributed various degrees of only effort, Miggy putting in the most amount of effort, the other 3 might as well not be on the pitch.

Dubravka, he has more good games than bad, but cost a fraction of Man C Liv man u keepers, who are good, but not 10s of millions better.

Shcarr, again, normally very consistent, can bring the ball out, has a good passing range and can also shoot, that’s kinda rare now, less than 5 million, big VVD at Liverpool is the best in the prem, but I’d match Shcarr against pretty much most of the rest, and there isn’t much difference.

IMO I don’t care if we haggle, as most players are massively over priced, but it’s great for us to say why haggle when it’s not your own money we are spending.

The thing I don’t like Ashley for, is his lack of vision, there are loads of decent players out there at decent prices, but what’s the point when your whole vision is wrong, under Carr, he bought really good players for senseble money, but again IMO, we always had the wrong type of coaches, always defensively minded, happy we started with a point, and tried not to lose it.

Bruce fits that mould perfectly, exactly the same as Rafa, exactly the same as Pardew.

Southampton new coach, plays football, Pearson at Watford set the foundations at Leicester and is doing pretty well at Watford, I thought they were gone, but they are scoring goals and look pretty good.

I wish he had the same vision at nufc as he does with SD, he want that to be the biggest in the world, and sadly we are just advertising for SD.

Get this definitively over with by the hour mark at the latest and take Almiron off.

Very glad to see Lascelles and Ritchie back fit to start.

I think we should have left Almiron on the bench personally. He’s high octane and has done really well, but it would make sense to give him a little breather tonight. Bruce may plan to withdraw him when the jobs done with instead..

    I hope it’s more 433 tonight rather than 5221

Would have put Almiron on the bench and started Allan.

Please Joelinton bag a couple of goals tonight!!

Right, two League One teams between Newcastle and a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2006. What could go wrong? #nufc #facup

Hopefully Hayden at RWB, Krafth right side of the back 3. Matty Longstaff really runs about and adds a bit of zip to us in the middle of the park, which will be telling against this level of opposition, not so much against EPL sides, where his inexperience shows a little, but Rochdale won’t handle the increase in tempo he brings to us. We’ll just move the ball around too fast for them.

    Lejeune ?
Really Steve – are you trying to batter him into fitness.
Wet pitch, League One players slightly off the pace and trying to prove a point…..
    I’ll keep my fingers crossed

Have the covers come off the pitch yet or can’t we afford them

With that team this needs to be at least 4-0 to the Toon

Lascelles back gives us a bit more pace at the back, which is good. I do prefer a Scharr, Fede and Lejeune back 3, primarily because of how well they play the ball out from the back, but for sure Lascelles has many qualities, not the least among them speed.

I assume Bruce is playing Almiron in the hope he can score again and really start to build a bit of goal scoring form that he can carry through the league. I’d reflect what a lot have said and hope that the game is more or less tied up early and we can get him off.

    Nicky

    Your back three is poor
Need either Clark or lascelles if schar and Fernandez play together to keep them in check because their minds stray. Lejeune isn’t vocal enough to keep those two in check

Yeah, I understand that players like Lascelles, Dummett and Clark have their own qualities. I don’t object to any of our CB’s starting, and accept that probably at least one of those three should perhaps start. They are good defenders, Dummett and Lascelles are fast.
