Newcastle’s Bordeaux Mission Likely Not Only For £40m Striker

When Newcastle had scouts watch Lyon defeat Bordeaux 2-1 on Saturday, many outlets named Lyon striker Moussa Dembele as the player they were watching.

However, that seems like an improbable target for Newcastle. The 23-year-old is on the radar of some elite clubs with Chelsea reportedly very interested in bringing him in this month.

With a transfer fee likely to eclipse £40m, we just don’t see any way Dembele will end up at Newcastle.

The Daily Star has a report about the upcoming transfer meeting between Steve Bruce and Mike Ashley in which they name Dembele as a possible target.

Moussa Dembele– next stop Chelsea?

In the report, it says Dembele is a player that Steve Bruce would love to have. That criterion could be used for hundreds of players, it doesn’t mean much.

He’s well out of our price range and will likely join one of the Premier League’s big spenders this month.

Newcastle were probably looking at several players in Bordeaux on Saturday. They also won’t be scouting players just for this window but as part of the long-term plan to identify future targets.

There are quite a few on Saturday that fit our profile like Lyon winger Maxwel Cornet or midfielder Maxence Caqueret as well as Bordeaux’s Aurelien Tchouameni, who is a top prospect as just 19.

We do think Bruce is hoping Ashley will help get some targets over the line this month. This is what Bruce said about the owner according to the Daily Star:

“He just wanted to come in and see if he could give us a hand. He was very supportive in the summer so if he wants to come and have a cup of tea with me, fine.”

However, the more likely targets than Dembele are Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen, RB Leipzig’s Ademola Lookman, or one of the strikers we’ve been linked with like Le Havre’s Tino Kadawere or Genk’s Mbwana Samatta.

    TnMW,
Apparently he used to, or still does work in a factory that made helicopter blades and that was his works computer username. Nothing at all to do with him wearing fake Burberry gear and walking round with a Stanley knife pinched from his Da’s garage.

San Miguel Beer was first produced by La Fabrica de Cerveza de San Miguel, an upstart brewery in the heart of Manila that began its operations in 1890. It received the Royal Grant from the Spanish king to brew beer in the Philippines, then a colony of Spain. In 1963, the brewery was renamed San Miguel Corp.

I’ll be quaffing Moritz tonight for those who like a good Spanish beer, Craft beer is everywhere here in Barca (much like everywhere else in the world) so will be partaking in a few of those as well post-work and pre-match – hopefully there will be a link or two to the game – I noticed live-soccer don’t have any listings yet ;(

Was just about to say that if they go all out and get dembele that would be a statement of intent by Ashley. They got a few good players this summer with Max Willems and at least tried to spend on Joel even though that hasn’t worked. To get dembele and sissoko would be amazing. Maybe the problem was Ashley just didn’t like rafas portrayal of him in the media and that’s why he was never backed… Now I was ABOUT to say that then I saw someone’s post that they’re trying to lower the price of sissoko.. Soo back to square one… Sigh

I think Shelvey have the potential to be a deep lying playmaker like Pirlo. Since he doesn’t have the speed, his only way to shine is his passing range and football brain.
