Newcastle were linked with Nice midfielder Wylan Cyprien way back in March of 2017.
We were looking very good for promotion at the time, and Cyprien had been identified as a summer target for our return to the Premier League. However, the Frenchman suffered a cruciate ligament injury that month, and no move was ever made.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Newcastle have contacted Nice about the 24-year-old for a possible move this month.
Wylan Cyprien– could midfielder join Allan Saint-Maximin on Tyneside
The former France U21 international is valued at £20m and is also being tracked by Tottenham. Though Spurs are on the brink of signing Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes, who has just completed his medical.
Cyprien came through the Lens Academy before joining Nice in 2016. He’s made 105 appearances with 22 goals and 12 assists. This season Wylan has been in fine form, scoring 7 and creating 5 in his 20 appearances.
Newcastle know all about how Nice work in the transfer market having signed Allan Saint-Maximin this summer. Maybe Cyprien has been identified as the midfielder Bruce wants that can drive the team forward from deep.
