Who Was Newcastle’s Man Of The Match Against Rochdale?

Newcastle enjoyed a very comfortable evening tonight as they coasted by Rochdale 4-1 at St James Park to secure a spot in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup against Oxford United.

It really couldn’t have gone much better than it did. About the only item not checked off the list was an Andy Carroll goal though he hit the post in the 89th minute.

Both Miguel Almiron and Matty Longstaff continued to get goals. Matt Ritchie had two fantastic crosses in the first half that led to the first two goals. Matty’s touch on his goal was sublime.

We also saw Joelinton get his first goal since August. It was an excellent cross by our debut boy Tom Allan.

However, the highlight of the evening has to be no one being forced off with an injury. Next, the lads face Oxford United at St James Park on the 25th of January.

Let’s hope we can get another comfortable win for a spot in the fifth round.

Really enjoyed those. Great to see Joel celebrate with Steve. I’m sure some would be happier if we lost so they cud vent. Let’s take the good moments as they come lads.

Joelinton running straight over to Bruce, could see what a goal meant to the players and the staff.

There’s potential in this squad, come on Ashley get us a bit more quality!! And get Matty Longstaff signed up long term asap

After seeing Joelinton running strait to the coaching staff, I feel for him. You can see that Bruce has been doing his best to support him

Anyone watch the under 23s on a regular basis?

If so, who should make it to the first team squad in the future?

Kenny, sadly there are people on here who seem happier to bring up the politics, the owner and the ‘traitor’, that winning a cup match.

Yeah really liked that celebration shows that Bruce has been doing what a good chunk of our thickle fans haven’t done and support him… Hopefully Bruce told him not to worry and that most football fans are thickle morons who will say you are the best thing since sliced bread if you start banging in a few goals.

    Was at the match.
    Why do I bother.
Because we won and entertain that’s why.
All you boycotters don’t bother to come to Wembley for the final.

Matty was so relaxed putting it away. Striker material!

OK it was only little Rochdale, but there are a number of pluses to take away from tonight :
We won, and are into round 4 of the FA Cup.
We don’t appear to have suffered any injuries.
Big Jo got onto the score sheet.
Young Tom Allen had an impressive debut.
Miggy showed his new found composure in front of goal and kept up his scoring run.
Bruce meant what he had promised, about giving the cup a serious shot, by putting out possibly his strongest fit side.

Thickle, perfect description for some. Mix of fickle and think. Nice!

Although this game was unwanted and unnecessary it has actually worked out quite well:
Scored a few goals to boost confidence, good run-outs for Richie and Lascelles, a goal for big Joe, blooding young Allan and of course no injuries.
