Will Bruce Ask Ashley To Sanction Permanent Signings This Month?

Some new details have emerged on Steve Bruce’s pending transfer meeting with Mike Ashley that was revealed this morning during Steve Bruce’s press conference.

Steve Bruce said the following when asked about transfer activity this morning:

“I am meeting up with the owner in the next couple of days. That is planned.

“As I have said all along, if there is something that can make us better and they are available, I will ask the owner, of course.

“He was very supportive in the summer. So let’s see what we can get.

“I have said all along we won’t just bring players in for the sake of it.

“Most of the injuries we have will be back in two or three weeks.”

The Chronicle are reporting that the idea for the meeting came from Mike Ashley to see if there was a way he could support his head coach.

Ashley hasn’t seen Bruce since Joelinton was signed in August, so this will be their first face to face meeting since well before the season started.

Bruce was also asked what he planned on saying to Ashley at the meeting. This is how he responded:

“My pitch will be exactly what I’m saying to you: ‘If there’s somebody out there, will you try and help us?'”

The idea could be that Mike Ashley may be willing to make some permanent deals this January rather than loans with an option to buy.

Two players come to mind who Newcastle would love to get in but will only be allowed to leave on permanent transfers.

Krzysztof Piatek– unused substitute on Saturday

They are RB Leipzig winger Ademola Lookman and AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek. Maybe Ashley could be willing to fund deals for these players, or of similar ilk, with money that was projected for the summer.

Lookman would cost around £22.5m and has only played 4 times for Leipzig this season so they would likely be willing to part ways with the 22-year-old.

Piatek has reportedly been made available for £30m. He, too, could be out of the reckoning at Milan with the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

On Saturday, Piatek did not play a part in Milan’s 2-0 win at Cagliari. It was the first time the Polish international has not played in a match this season.

Milan coach Stefano Pioli even transitioned from a 4-3-3 to a 4-4-2 for the match to have two strikers on the pitch. He opted to use Ibrahimovic and Rafael Leao, who both scored goals.

There is also a report from Italy that Aston Villa have just bid £30m for Piatek. So we’ll see if anything comes of that.

Jarrod Bowen– could meeting with Ashley cause Bowen breakthrough?

Jarrod Bowen is also a name that could come up. Hull City don’t want to sell their star this January, but if Newcastle can put in a £20m bid for the 23-year-old, that could pressure them to sell.

Bowen has not signed the three-year contract offer Hull put on the table in October. So if he receives some offers this month, he may want to take his shot at the Premier League this season rather than continuing to wait for that opportunity.

It should be very interesting to see if Ashley will support Bruce this window and loosen the purse strings for a permanent signing or two.

Genius business move by Ashley take us out of the top 20 richest clubs so no one will be able to ask where the money is gone as we aren’t a rich club anymore……

Is chopper watch not on duty today?

Do they only work when it’s a potential new owner and not the current one?

The interview is in the Mirror.

Apparently Ashley is coming for a “cuppa” and to see “if he can help with anything”

So if he’s got a very good relationship with the CEO or owner we have to presume that he means Lee Churnley who he must speak to at least once a week, it can’t be Ashley who he’s spoken to only once. If he thinks his relationship with Churnley is so good then they must be both on the same page. I bet there was no need to Show Brucie those drawings and certainly no talk of potential after all Brucie has already reminded us we are where we are because of two relegations, no mention of Leicester and Wolves who spend the best part of this century in the second and third tiers. Nope, Brucie knows the plan is to help cement our place as a Crystal Palace, Burnley or Brighton and he’s more than happy to oblige so that he gets to sit at the PL table while it lasts.

Easy for him to walk away from a Championship club, this is his very last shot at the PL other than a promotion.

OP, seeing as you asked, helicopter G-MAOL is in the South of England, having last flown yesterday from London City to Harrow at around 15:30

I think Ashley has another helicopter, but I’m not sure of its registration details. I need NY Mag on to keep me right.

Ashley’s jet went to Miami on the 17th December, returning on the 6th January, so he appears to be in the UK and seems to have timed his holidays a little better this year, at least.

I hope that scratches that particular itch for you, matey

Bruce isn’t going to demand anything. This is a once in a blue moon fleeting condescension by Ashley as he drops in for a business update. Bruce will be asking if there’s any chance the original hiring terms of “don’t ask as a smack in the mouth often offends” can be tweaked slightly so he can just rest Joelinton for a bit as he is coming apart quicker than a caravan in a tornado and maybe get a decent midfield engineer in, possibility boy a striker. The answer will of course be the smack in the mouth.

If anyone has a subscription to The Times, there’s what appears to be an interesting article about Mike Ashley and his jet-setting lifestyle from November last year.

I don’t have a subscription, so if anyone could share I’d appreciate it.

Well let’s see if a beer drinking Geordie can sweet talk a cockney.
If we don’t sign someone that is a named player with credentials this Jan then sorry Steve, call Uber and head back over the bridge.
I’m giving him the benefit of doubt that he isn’t a puppet, so let see it Stevie.

That kid Matteson was being highlighted on the BBC sport this morning, really full of himself and needs pegging back tonight. Perhaps by one of our kids, Allan?

The Beeb obviously see an upset on the cards, don’t see it myself but this is the Toon!!

Bill, in the Cup in recent seasons me and the kids have watched a loss to Notts Forest and a draw to Blackpool.

If we don’t win this one, I’m not taking them again!

Brucie has to choose his words very carefully if Mikey let’s him down this month. There’s going to be a fine line between trying not to sound like a patsy and trying to convince us that we really couldn’t get those spinning plates to stop spinning/crashing down/being put back in the canteen.

Has there ever been a notable giant killing after a replay, I just feel for them a bit as it’s not going to be the pay day that they earned from getting a second shot.
