Almiron, Clark, Saint-Maxmin, And Shelvey All Get Starts Against Chelsea

Here is the team Steve Bruce has selected for the match against Chelsea. It has six changes from the 4-1 win against Rochdale.

This is a very strong team, as Steve Bruce has decided to risk Allan Saint-Maximin from the start. It looks like it’s going to be a 5-2-3 with Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron on either side of Joelinton.

Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden become the midfield pairing again with both Longstaff brothers on the bench. The back three is very experienced with captain Jamaal Lascelles, Fede Fernandez, and Ciaran Clark.

As expected, Emil Krafth and Jetro Willems are the wing-backs. Matt Ritchie only makes the bench after starting against Rochdale.

Andy Carroll has not made the bench, so there are no striker options other than Joelinton fit at the moment.

Here is the team that Frank Lampard has chosen. N’Golo Kante has been passed fit and makes the Chelsea eleven while Marcos Alonso has not made the trip.

Fans seem pretty upbeat for this one. It might be a transfer window high as we look to be going after some quality signings.

Newcastle can definitely get a result this afternoon. Steve Bruce has put out a strong team, but there’s little firepower on the bench.

Let’s hope the lad can continue from the good result at Wolves and restart the march up the Premier League table.

Howay The Lads!

The front 6 for Chelsea are awesome
    However
    Their back 4 are vulnerable

We should be getting a pen or two today, providing the ref doesn’t stick to the ‘give nowt to the Toon rule’

I was just about to post that there isn’t any home wins in the Premier League so far and then Man City take the lead.

Only Krafth and maybe Fernandez are the only differences with starting line up against ManCity. Hopefully the same result or better!

Let’s hope ASM isn’t going to be another traitor injury statistic
You can see how he just don’t manage players recovering from injuries very well

On paper we must be in for a beating.
Brucie I suppose has had to go with Joelinton – he’ll no doubt be a passenger in the game and will just stroll around in first gear.

    4 – 1 to Chelsea.

What are a few people on about an attacking team?

It’s simply restoration of what we were playing before ASMs injury.

Hope he isn’t being rushed back here. Last thing we need is his hamstring going twang again after half an hour. Glad to see him back, just hope he’s fully fit.

Our best defensive back 3 too with Lascelles centre, Clark left and Fernandez right.

Krafth a worry, not put in a single convincing PL performance yet.

ASM has been back training for two weeks so no real surprise that he’s back.

No forwards on the bench though which is pretty shocking, not even one of the kids.

Lascelles needs to be aggressive on Abraham without giving any needless freekicks away. Fine line. Show him who is boss and demoralise him early on.

Toon 22 if we do well and maxi plays well, will u praise Bruce, seeing as u are slagging him for risking injury? Presume not. The usual blog double standards and lack of consistency.

Toon22 take your agenda else where mate. It’s the medical staffs decision on if someone is fit to play or not.

There is many different people and functions that go into deciding who gets played and who is rested, who is match fit and who is not.

@HWA true but Bruce could have left ASM on the bench and gone for Longstaff in the middle for more protection in MF with different formation

Willian the diver needs special attention from the officials.

If it’s tight he’ll be in flight ..leaving that old right leg in .

Not sure if it’s a good idea to press Chelsea too quick or too high …unless Chelsea keeper plays it short throughout the game…stand off but get in quick for the second hurried pass.. or 3rd.

Not sure Joelintons up to speed in any press.. ok as a 4th extra .

    Newcastle 2 v 1 Chelsea . Chelsea goal is a pen . Courtesy of willian diving .

Almiron and St Max for uz.

Will get hammered today. Playing ASM so soon shows why Bruce struggles with injuries in all the clubs he managed. Definitely not because of us being unlucky but he’s just a poor manager.

    Newcastle 0 Chelsea 3.

the medical staff can only advise on the players condition, the player and the manager/coach must and will make the final decision,

Hibbit worked in pro football on the medical team for many years, if they say he shouldn’t play he won’t play. He has had full training capacity for 2 weeks, he will play 60 and be off
