This is the team we predict Steve Bruce will select for this afternoon’s match against Chelsea. It has five changes from the win against Rochdale.
Hopefully, Steve Bruce will tread lightly with Allan Saint-Maximin and Fabian Schar for this match despite their being available. Last weekend at Wolves, Dwight Gayle and Paul Dummett came back after suffering muscle injuries and are now likely out until March.
Bruce can still field a very strong team even without the two superstars and still have Saint-Maximin in reserve for a second-half cameo.
There are still six players ruled out with a question mark over Andy Carroll, but the injury situation is looking a lot better than a few weeks ago.
Chelsea will make late decisions on both Marcos Alonso and N’Golo Kante who are suffering from knocks.
Newcastle Injuries
Javier Manquillo – hamstring, Yoshinori Muto – hip, Dwight Gayle – groin, Paul Dummett – hamstring, Ki Sung-yueng – undisclosed, DeAndre Yedlin – knee, Andy Carroll – undisclosed (late fitness test)
Chelsea Injuries
Christian Pulisic – groin, Marko van Ginkel – knee, Ruben Loftus-Cheek – Achilles, Marcos Alonso – back (late fitness test), N’Golo Kante – hamstring (late fitness test)
Newcastle fans are quite confident going into this match, according to our poll. A majority of readers are predicting a good result of either a win or a draw.
While 37% have picked Newcastle to come up short, 36% of voters think we’ll come away with all three points. That would be an outstanding result against the Blues.
The lads played well at Stamford Bridge in October, losing on a late goal from Alonso. So maybe we can return the favor at St James Park.
How Will Newcastle Fare Against Chelsea On Saturday?
- Loss (37%, 924 )
- Win (36%, 901 )
- Draw (27%, 683 )
Total Voters: 2,508

I post here pointing out Jabbas PR and generally giving pro Jabba posters a hard time
You dont like that ?
You like Jabba and his goons ?
No you don’t, you make false unproven allegations against ordinary posters.
And as for me liking Jabba and his goons then you obviously never read my posts as they are usually very much Anti Mikem, but hey ho you’ll continue to be blinkered and selective about what you want to read and post.
You’ll also continue to peddle your mischief and repetitive cr*p.
I think that you are the real PR on this blog, if any does actually exist.
I think Bladey got it spot on the other day when he said that Mikem doesn’t even know we exist or if he does, doesn’t care as in the greater sphere of his world we are a minor irritation at best.
Fact is I don’t like the online you, I might change my mind if i actually met you, in fact i probably would but that’s never likely to happen, so if you want to try and give me and other posters unwarranted grief then you can expect it back!

Comment #3Chelsea will try to use the whole width of the pitch, tying down our flanks and we will need energy and drive from midfield to get us forward.

That team looks about right to me unless Brucie decides to play Maximin for Krafth with Ritchie dropping back but I reckon he may well be a bit reluctant to start him, recent lesson learnt!

Comment #5Let’s hope Kante fails his late fitness test. The little fella will be our nemesis for sure if he plays as he can change games single handedly.

I’ll need to see him in a Toon shirt to count him as a saved spinning plate! 🙂

Comment #10“Newcastle have reached an agreement with Inter for the purchase of Valentino Lazaro, a midfielder who is now out of the technical plans of the Nerazzurri club. Two million euros for the loan, twenty for the right of redemption, effectively avoiding a loss for the Nerazzurri who paid it 25 million this summer.”

Comment #11“Reliving the goal, Allan said: “Big Andy has held the ball up, so I have just made a run off him. I saw Joe in the middle and I think the crowd were doing everything they can to get him a goal. There was some relief because, luckily, I have put it in a nice place for him and he’s finished it well.””
