Valentino Lazaro On Bench For Inter’s Trip To Lecce

Antonio Conte has announced his squad for Inter Milan’s match at Lecce this afternoon. Newcastle target Valentino Lazaro has made the bench for the Nerazzurri. Antonio Candreva continues in the starting eleven as Conte’s primary right wing-back.

Lazaro has made every Serie A matchday squad under Conte despite making only 6 league appearances this season. He’s also only made 3 starts in the league this season.

We are not sure what this signals but it could mean that a deal is not as close as has been reported.

However, with 11 substitutes in Serie A, it may not mean too much. He’s been a substitute 13 times this season where he has not made an appearance.

We’ll see if Lazaro gets on the pitch this afternoon for Inter.

Who Was Newcastle's Man Of The Match In Win Against Chelsea?

  • Ciaran Clark (36%, 1,158 )
  • Miguel Almiron (12%, 383 )
  • Martin Dubravka (11%, 360 )
  • Joelinton (10%, 310 )
  • Jamaal Lascelles (9%, 303 )
  • Federico Fernandez (8%, 270 )
  • Isaac Hayden (7%, 219 )
  • A. Saint-Maximin (4%, 123 )
  • Matt Ritchie (2%, 60 )
  • Emil Krafth (1%, 22 )
  • Jonjo Shelvey (0%, 16 )
  • Matty Longstaff (0%, 9 )
  • Jetro Willems (0%, 5 )
  • Sean Longstaff (0%, 2 )

Pretty much tells what we all thought – a deal is in the works so he is not being started and risked but it isnt in the final stages so he is still in the squad

The slug relies on players agents linking us with them to make us think we’re looking at players, in reality he’ll be happy with 29 points before the end of January so will be reluctant to buy (especially when we have players coming back and only one getting injured)

You must be impressed with how the players are fighting for him and celebrating with him. There again it doesn’t suit your narrative. Your narrative is about ownership and I don’t think you care much about what’s happening on the pitch. I’ll wager that you are happy us for us to sign cheap bad players rather than good ones because, again, it suits your argument. Try to remember that Nufc is a football club, not a political party.

I’m wondering how many places we have available in our 25 man premier squad?
If we’re fully allocated, who’s leaving to make way for our loaners when they come in?

I was as big a Bruce hater as anyone when he arrived.
But he has matched Rafa no end and therefore has fully won me over. Obviously I’d like us to play more attacking football but Ashley won’t free up the resources to allow it. So for now it’s….

    In Brucey we trust!

So basically Munster, in your view, a manager who is on a different level than anything Ashley’s deserves and who fought, at the cost of his reputation to get the best for the club deserved your relentless criticism because he wasn’t as good as Pep or Klopp. But a manager that has helped bring us down to the levels of Crystal Palace and Burnley should be lauded for his brilliance. Who’s the tw@t here?

As long as the club can “wipe its own nose” that’s all the slug is interested in, not ambition or organic growth, I’m appalled we have slipped from the top 20 the richest club in the world league (as far down as 30th I believe) when we have so much money from player sales, sky money, tv money ,

When beating Chelsea at home is being described as an historic victory then Ashley’s 13 year campaign to horse whip and break us has finally succeeded.

We’ve had historic moments under Ashley that will be remembered long after he’s gone.

Managed to watch the game this morning although I wish I’d just watched the 1 minute highlights – Lascelles or Clark for motm but I plumped for Lascelles as he marshalled the whole back line and sometimes the midfield, not sure why people picked Linton other than he got the bar and put more effort in than usual – surely not a motm performance but better than his usual displays – hopefully he’ll carry on improving but if we play 10 at the back it’s going to be difficult for him.
Btw: our forward passing is atrocious and krafth can barely pass at all

Wasn’t a pretty win yesterday, but the lads battled, grafted and more importantly didn’t do to many daft things to put ourselves under any more pressure then we were already under…and stole the win….im not bothered if we nicked it,we deserved a bit luck for once, well done all,3 points will do.
Hope willems injury isn’t as bad as it looked, but looks like an acl or something nasty like that, tbh… unfortunate if it is.

    Jail,
Also, how was fighting for the best for the club a risk to his reputation? Surely by him fighting and highlighting what he is up against is actually protecting his reputation? I’m not criticising him for doing that, he was doing what was right. I just don’t see him doing that causing any damage to his reputation.

His reputation is probably suffering more because of quite a few people in the media and pundits are commenting on what a great job Bruce is doing, and how he is out performing Rafa from last season.

I can remember the football Chelsea played before the were chelski and having a “mr rich ” owner, and it wasn’t pretty, admittedly football has moved on around us but we’re still spending 90s -2000s money on wages and players ( other than maybe Joe and Miggy) so no wonder we play football from a bygone era as were stuck there with the facilities, finances given and even dare I say it club running costs

My take on it is that with Bruce I wasnt expecting much at all in terms of style of play or identity, the guys on pennies compared to rafa. With rafa a world class manager the organisation and being tough to beat was a sensible option but games that irritated me were citeh at home, shelvey shooting from halfway line on kick off and we just dropped in to defend, chelsea at home last season where we paroed the buses and refused to attack until they scored. 6m a year and the best you can come up with is dont go past the halfway line at home in case we get countered.

Albeit this changed in 2nd half of last season and I was happier. If we rewind back to chelsea at home last season, rafa had us camping in our own box from kick off, at home we carried zero threat and didnt want to carry any threat until they scored, we then changed it and joselu scored before eventually losing I believe. However we gave them problems in last 15mins after removing the 11 buses gameplan.

I expected better from rafa, I dont expect better from bruce hence not massively fussed about current style, also it looks to me from the outside that players have really bought into bruce, dare I say his man management style is his biggest asset and the players look like they enjoy playing for him!!

    Giimps,
Sir Bobby was allegedly close to sealing a deal for John Terry to come up here, as Chelsea needed the cash, and then Roman bought the club and the plug was pulled on the deal.

How different things could have been….

Missed the game completely yesterday and absolutely surprised to see the score. Annoyed I missed it like, new job is shifts so no regular hours mon-fri anymore. Missed loads of football. Seeing the highlights on nufc, thought we did well. Joelinton unlucky with his header, Fernandez I thought he should have done better with his. Hayden off the side of his face… take it all day lol!

Spot on, Rafa knew the fans would always back him over ashley and he played on it more often than not. As much as jail tells us that rafa talked about being a cub with potential of europe etc, there is also plenty of times after a game where he used to say we dont have the quality. Bet the players enjoyed hearing rafa say they dont have quality

The saddest part of it all is its 2020, january, and we still have rafa debates. The bloke went for an ambitious 12m a year project to one of the best leagues in the world, he’s happy so move on for goodness sake!!

Lazaro was highly regarded and was doing well before his move to inter. More of a right sided midfielder and winger but versatile. Played on either side, full back, wing back and even cm. pace, dribbling and always looking to get forward. Good delivery from open play and set pieces. Could be an astute signing. Emphasis on could.

Not sure why it hasn’t worked out. Conte likes his attacking wingbacks. Though I suppose Lazaro is more of a forward player. Just can fill in the role.

Absolute shame to see willems suffer a serious injury. Hope it’s not too bad.

    Our Toon,
Someone posted last seasons Chelsea at SJP stats yesterday, I think it said we had around 20% possesion.

I expected better from Rafa, I expect better from Bruce. If you feel you are good enough to take the job, you should be judged on the same parameters for me. At the minute, Bruce has more points, but I would be surprised if that doesn’t balance out over the rest of the season. Very little to choose between them, other than salary on the evidence so far at NUFC alone.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we did have 20% in that game last season, we refused to pass the halfway line until they scored. That’s what I dont get and completely agree that we should judge them the same.

Saw bits of Lazaro at hertha, not enough to say if he’ll do well or not. But he’s an exciting player and did have an improving end product to his game.

One thing we defo need is end product, krafth was in a good positions 3 time in first half and could get the ball an inch off the ground. All 3 times stopped by the first man or blocked by defender.

Very frustrating so if we can add the right type of delivery it should help joelinton as he’d be getting aerial service which has been limited to say the least

Speaking of inter, sensi has been playing brilliantly. We were linked to him last year and I was all for it. Still somewhat under the radar then and would have been an immense addition to cm. never going to happen now. Don’t think his loan at inter has an agreed permanent deal either and think Man City and Barca are sniffing around now.
