Pundit Applauds Coaching Performances In Newcastle At Everton Prediction

BBC Pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his predictions for this week’s Premier League action. He has picked Newcastle to lose 2-0 at Everton tomorrow.

Here is his prediction in full:

Everton’s improvement has continued under Carlo Ancelotti, not just with their results, but the way they play – they have purpose and a bit of fire in their bellies.

Newcastle’s win over Chelsea on Saturday was a total smash and grab, but that is allowed.

With the injuries he has had to contend with, Magpies boss Steve Bruce has done brilliantly to keep his side clear of the relegation scrap but I don’t think his side will be able to keep Everton out here.

Everton were on a good run when they came to St James Park on December 28th with a four-game unbeaten streak. They were able to continue that streak with a 2-1 on the back of Dominic Calvert-Lewin brace.

It was Newcastle’s first loss at home since August. In the game, Fabian Schar picked up Newcastle’s lone goal but also a hamstring injury that he has yet to make his return from though he made the bench against Chelsea this past Saturday.

While Everton are still on an impressive run, Newcastle have picked up 4 unlikely points in the past two games with a draw at Everton and the smash and grab Lawro references against Chelsea.

The lads will be filled with confidence. They’ve cut out the defensive errors that marred the holiday fixtures. As long as that continues and Martin Dubravka can keep playing the way he has, Newcastle should stand a good chance of picking up another result.

How Will Newcastle Do At Everton On Tuesday?

  • Draw (35%, 944 )
  • Win (35%, 936 )
  • Lose (30%, 790 )

currently 837 votes for a win, 836 for a draw.

    Tight!

709 for a loss, which is fair enough – it’s going to be a game of fine margins.

jane, you’re absolutely spot on that we’ll not back down from Joelinton yet. Ashley’s too stubborn and Charnley is too invested – if he jumps up and says that Joe’s purchase was a mistake, he’s either admitted he messed up or accusing Nickson or Barnes of messing up, not something he’ll want to be doing.

Besides, if we were to offload Joe now or even to shift him sideways, he’ll lose value, probably to the tune of around £20M. As a club, we can’t afford for that to happen, given how little money Ashley likes to invest at the best of times.

Just been watching some Bentaleb videos.
Very good player, dribbles, tricks, long range shots, meaty challenges, exudes confidence.

Overall (bearing in mind the Wise selection methods) looks like a very good player, certainly a natural footballer and definitely better that what we have.
Bloody good business if they can get him. Sign him up.

Great to see such pleasant exchanges tonight about football. Obviously I have been on the blog! I agree with Rob and nufc 83 about what we need. Bentaleb seems the business and in general its pace and a bit of class that we need, to get us operating further up the pitch. Bruce knows that he wants and Ashley seems to be backing him. I’m not convinced by Bowen but I don’t think we will be getting a central striker.

Got to say my initial reaction was underwhelmed about Bentaleb but going from YouTube(I know) he does look very decent.

What I like about Bentaleb is that he looks mobile and capable of playing a pass and keeping possession!

I hope our team starts to make a bit more movement forward get the wingbacks pushed up and play a higher line because he will just end up getting caught in possession waiting for people to make moves!

Could we be pondering a formation change with him and Valentino? Would mean you could play Valentino right wing , ASM left wing and Almiron no 10 in a 4231 formation with Jo up front with Bentaleb and Hayden/Longstaff as the 2 anchors?

not a big deal if this was the reason..

“Bentaleb was told to train with to the U23s after not showing up to support the first team while dealing with a groin injury.”

Possibly. But then what would you do with say Matt Ritchie? I really like him as a lwb but don’t see him as a left back in back 4.

Mate at work is a Spurs fan, said we have got a great player if he signs, just his attitude let’s him down.

Bruce is quite a good man manager so might be the right fit.

Anyone who can help retain possession and open up the game for miggy and ASM is a good signing

That’s going to be the issue with us the squad is unbalanced in terms of personnel 3 at the back seems to suit the players we have but we need to be able to cause teams more problems in possession

jane, someone posted earlier that he had been injured, ordered to turn up for the match with the other injured players, then his twins were born and he forgot to text the club to let them know. Sounds like a comedy of errors.

There was an interview I posted earlier that said he fell out with Pocchetino at Spurs because he was first choice in CM, got injured and felt he deserved his place back but got frustrated when he couldn’t, which led to arguments with the coach. He was 19 at the time, so perhaps hadn’t developed his people skills sufficiently.

    I imagine he’s a bit of a handful as a player, but I don’t think he’s a Nile Ranger – I reckon Bruce can handle him.

Yeah, you don’t know what kind of influences he was under as a kid living away from home in London, it’s possible he fell in with a dodgy crowd (not Harry Kane).

I reckon the Geordies’ll take him under their wing and keep him on the straight and narrow.

If we get 2-3 quality players that work out (bentaleb looks impressive) then it’s possible that this club may be loopstarting to be run correctly. Of course there are loads of problems but if we can pick up talent at fair money, well scouted, with managerial input to what’s needed ( and Bruce will have that), and a cordial relationship between manager and owner, and such a never say die well drilled (defensively speaking) team who clearly like their boss, them we are moving in the right direction.

    Carltoon,
Bentaleb will just fit in with the rest of the players coming back from injury, apparently were down to 15 first team players to choose from, maybe 16 or 17 depending if we sign Lazarro and Bentaleb

    Yes,

It is great to see such pleasant exchanges today and coincidentally, someone’s been conspicuous by his absence. Has he been a naughty boy and carded again?

Worry not though, Jane’s taken on the role of Googlemeister. An excellent substitute.

Bean Belt looks like he’s a tenacious player who’s got an array of skills in his locker and we must hope that Brucie can put an arm around him to temper whatever attitude problems he (Bean Belt) is reputed to have had.

A couple more decent for the right positions and you never know what might happen.

    Onwards and upwards?
