Report – Newcastle Make Offer For Lille Midfielder Coveted By Premier League Elite

It has been reported often over the past few months of Steve Bruce’s desire to bring in a box to box type midfielder either this month or in the summer.

There have been links to quite a few players who fit that description – Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka, Strasbourg’s Ibrahima Sissoko, and Spartak Moscow’s Alex Kral.

The Athletic did a report recently that named those three players along with two Lille midfielders as being on Newcastle’s radar. Both Thiago Maia and Boubakary Soumare were cited as players who Newcastle were interested in.

Boubakary Soumare is a 20-year-old midfielder often compared to his compatriot Paul Pogba. However, he is linked with some of the Premier League’s elite clubs with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham chasing the French U21 international.

Boubakary Soumare– Newcastle aiming for the sky?

Sport Witness have cited French outlet L’Equipe that Newcastle have made an offer for the former PSG Academy product along with Tottenham and Wolves.

However, the player has no intention of leaving Lille this month. This is what Soumare had to say about a winter departure:

“I don’t see myself leaving. I feel good here. I’m learning, we have high goals, like the Champions League. A departure is not on the agenda.”

The report does not detail how much Newcastle offered, but it was likely not the €50m that it would take for Lille to seriously consider selling their young star.

While Soumare will likely end up at one of the Premier League’s big spenders at some point in the next few years, it doesn’t hurt for Newcastle to sound out the player and make initial contact.

He seems determined to stay at Lille for the time being and not rush into any decisions about his future. Soumare added:

“I have a very clear idea of where I want to go in my career. I know where I am today. And that suits me.”

We doubt his ‘clear idea’ of his future involves Newcastle, but you never know unless you ask.

Wylan Cyprien- the Nice Midfielder is the one we should definitely go after! He would probably make the switch too, being in an inferior team and being good mates with ASM. No point going for unrealistic targets if they clearly have no intention of leaving their club.

Unbelievable noise at the final whistle in Newcastle. Haven’t heard a reaction like that since Michael Owen left the club.

Would be very happy if we got Cyprien. As for this guy I have only heard Man utd and Chelsea linked and the way he speaks he knows he’s in for big things, so why he would he come to Newcastle

If Edinson Cavani is heading to Atletico, does that mean that Diego Costa or Angel Correa will soon be available?

Jetro’s gonna be gutted. His big aim in coming to us was to get back in the Dutch National team, which his performances merited in my eyes.

If he fails to win a permanent move to us following this injury, it’s possible he’ll end up sitting warming a bench somewhere as the best years of his career pass him by.

Hopefully, NUFC will see sense and buy him anyway, even if he can’t play for us until, say, October.

If Lejeune’s two ACL injuries are anything to go by, he could be back in time for pre-season training, though a medical might be tough to get through.

Never mind Joelinton, – glad to see the support he is getting – but what the heck happened to Jacob Murphy? For a lad touted as on the edge of an international breakthrough, 12 million seems to be totally wasted and even a league down he is blasted as lacking talent and effort. No-one is discussing it. Hardly looks like Shola will turn him round, either.
