We have signed Nabil Bentaleb on loan from Schalke 04 for the rest of the season with an option to buy for €10M this summer.
That’s an excellent deal, but our other immediate target – right-sided Austrian International midfielder Valentino Lazaro may prefer to sign for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
Lazaro is said to have enjoyed playing in the Bundesliga with Hertha BSC and would like to return to the German league in preference to Newcastle in the Premier League.
We’d be surprised if we can get the Inter-Milan midfielder to Newcastle on loan with an option to buy this month – but it’s still possible if not probable.
Neil has a report out today that Leipzig are not happy with the €23M transfer fee so he could become available – but we only want players who want to play for newcastle as their first choice.
Bentaleb, on the other hand, was very eager to join Newcastle, and that’s always nice to see, and he is physically fit but not match-fit.
So it seems a perfect time to give him a game against Oxford United on Saturday in the FA Cup 4th round tie.
Newcastle have a chance to get to the 5th round of the FA Cup for the first time in Mike Ashley’s 13 year tenure as the woeful Newcastle United owner.
Nabil Bentaleb– almost certain to play against Oxford United on Saturday
The Chronicle are reporting that 42,000 tickets have already been sold for the game, so it looks like the lads will get the backing of a nearly full house on Saturday.
It follows their heroics of the last three minutes of last night’s Premier League game at Goodison Park.
We looked a well-beaten side – down 2-0 – until substitute Florian Lejeune turned up with two goals right at the death.
Cristiano Ronaldo would have been happy with Florian’s first goal, which was an acrobatic overhead bicycle kick with the ball whizzing into the back of the net.
The Everton defenders seemed stunned that a Newcastle player had tried to score a goal!
Newcastle manager Steve Bruce has been keen on Bentaleb for a few years now, and the Algerian International could make his first start for the club on Saturday with Bruce needing to rest some players after another hectic spell of games.
This is what Steve Bruce said about the 25-year-old Algerian after last night’s 2-2 draw at Goodison Park:
“With the problems with what we’ve got, to keep it under wraps for a few weeks, he’s somebody who we identified and he’s a very good player.”
“The kid’s played at the highest level for Spurs and particularly impressed as a young player when he first burst onto the scene.”
“Then he gets a big-money move to Schalke, where he’s played probably played 90-100 times at the top end of the Bundesliga so he’s a good acquisition for us.”
“A good player.”
Now we need to make no mistakes on Saturday and beat Oxford United, who eliminated us at the same stage back when we were in the Championship in 2017 by an embarrassing score of 3-0.
We must win this game to keep the momentum going.
Howay The Lads!!
Who Was Newcastle's Best Player In 2-2 Draw At Everton?
- Florian Lejeune (64%, 1,662 )
- Martin Dubravka (17%, 433 )
- Miguel Almiron (11%, 296 )
- Matt Ritchie (3%, 67 )

Comment #45Apparantley I’m a idiot a fool etc, I wasn’t on celebrating Bruce’s tactical master class as it didn’t suit my agenda etc etc and more BS.
Basically munster being a WUM trying to cause agro on the blog, so he can later claim innocence.
I watched the game and Munster didnt, yet he still felt the need to give his full report.
Also I hadn’t posted for hours.
No different than when I don’t post for a few weeks and get called names from the 60yr old dad.

Comment #51OP let me remind you that you were sickened ( I think you used that word) after sheff utd. You are not a true fan. True fans don’t say that kind of thing. Your hatred for Ashley had turned into a hatred for the manager he appointed. You are a blind old man lashing out.

A. With the point and bonkers late drama
B. That the negative Miseries who pollute this blog would have to suck up another point by the Toon.

I’m atleast 20years younger than you, you can’t remember your kids ages, why would I expect you to remember what you I or anyone has posted.
You’ve been outed as a WUM.
Proved it with your behaviour last night, you’ve claimed atleast a dozen times you’ll ignore my posts but comment on me practically daily.
Does your wife think you’re having a affair with two blokes called OP and Jail?
You’re obsessed with us both, I barely post for nearly two months but you still had to mention me, same as when Jfa isnt posting.
Your agenda is to say the opposite of JFA or myself and disrupt the blog.

I take it then that you cannot back that up with facts.
I thought so.
The usual. Abuse and accusations you can’t substantiate.
I think you will find that you cannot libel an anonymous blog name.
Not an expert on these things, but I think that is the case.
No loss you see.
I personally never take advantage of that. I don’t say anything on here that I would not say in the real world.

Whoever is Gaffa here is working to a tight budget ..the problem is Ashley but you don’t do yerself any favours having a daily dig when you keep on making Rafa comparisons.
People don’t detest Bruce..hes a good Bloke..they detest Ashley and the way he treats Newcastle United as of secondary importance.
And if people see the regime here and what it means to non progress then let them have thier say without mocking them for having their say .
Just stop mocking them.
I will defend your right of an opinion ..let others have theirs without snide comment directed at them.
No more jibes their way ..they are just expressing their own thoughts like you..but yours are mocking .

Comment #67Anyone who thinks any NUFC fans dont want the team to do well needs to see a doctor.
Obviously deluded and completely out of touch with the fan base the city and reality.
How can fans who complain about the quality and positions of signings, who question if the manager is good enough or ask if the owner is shafting the club be accused of wanting the club/team to fail.
Only someone out of touch with reality or a wum would make such claims.
It beggars beleif anyone who knows the city club and its fans would make such claims.
Makes me SICK

Yes i was using £20 a ticket for my estimate, if it;s £10 then you could half their total or quarter it if it’s £5 so they should get between £100,000 to £200.000 still not bad for a small club.

Go on then back it up.
Leave solicitors out of this. Back it up.
As I explained you can’t libel an anonymous blog name.
I would not waste time with you even if that were not the case.
Back it up.
I’ve outed you for what you are.
Someone with a low regard for NUFC supporters.
Hence the 29K who went to the Rochdale game are Ashley’s PR team according to you.
You don’t like that.
Hence, accusations you won’t/can’t substantiate.
