The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder has tweeted that Valentino Lazaro boarded a flight to England on Thursday night for his scheduled medical on Friday.
Valentino Lazaro has just boarded a flight to the UK #nufc
— Lee Ryder (@lee_ryder) January 23, 2020
Ryder has also written an additional report on the situation emphasizing caution in that Newcastle are still wary of things falling apart.
The Chronicle was able to reach Lazaro’s agent, Max Hagmayr, for comment on whether a deal had been agreed but all they got out of him was a ‘maybe.’
Romelu Lukaku and Valentino Lazaro– I’m so envious of you right now
It appears as though Steve Bruce and the club are still concerned over any last-minute attempts to hijack the deal. With Lazaro’s agent basically shopping around for the best deal, that is a cause for concern.
However, Luke Edwards, with the Telegraph, is also reporting that Lazaro has agreed to join Newcastle. In his report, he states that Lazaro has chosen Newcastle over Leipzig due to his desire to test himself in the Premier League.
Newcastle United reach agreement with Inter Milan for Valentino Lazaro loan deal | @LukeEdwardsTele https://t.co/paOmm6Rx08
— Telegraph Football (@TeleFootball) January 23, 2020
Newcastle have scouted Lazaro extensively while he was at both Hertha Berlin and Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. They also had an interest in him this summer before he moved to Inter.
His time in Italy has not worked out for the 23-year-old as he’s made only 4 starts in all competitions. However, it looks like he’s going to get a second chance at Newcastle, and let’s hope he can make this stop a success.

Comment #6Krafth has proven he isn’t an attacking wingback at all, might be a solid RB on a 4 tho.
Odd signing given the formation we play unless the plan was to revert to a back 4 initially.

If he’s good though, will we pay 20M for him, Kenedy was shit hot and we wouldn’t pay that for him. Somebody somewhere said he’ll never be worth 30M get him on loan again.

Comment #9Thank god we re-loaned Kenedy tho tbh, he was rotten the next season and clearly his attitude is crap.
Let’s see how things work out until the end of the season, lots of water to go under bridges before then.
Without a CF we are in the clarts though.

What happens if Lazaro is brilliant though as was Kenedy, we pull the plug hoping they’ll drop the price and Lazaro ends up in a situation where he knows both clubs don’t really want him, he’s already a multi millionaire and thinks foot it, I’ll wait then go to China or the UAE?

Comment #15i think Bruce would like to play 4 at the back , it would give us more bodies in midfield and allow us to push up , as long as we have a decent DM we can attack with a front 5 instead of defending with a back 9

Comment #16Of course it’s all ifs and buts Jail, there are benefits to buying out right and also loaning with an option.
We have had our fair share of crap who signed long contracts and we had to keep them as no-one would take the them off our hands and pay their wages, I dont mind us loaning some who we have doubts over to see how it works out first. Not everyone obvs.
Time will tell as ever, I still think Lookman was the first choice winger we were looking at, maybe he still will be in the summer and this is just another option?
Penfold will be on the case I have no worries! 🙂

Comment #17Dubravka, Kenedy and Slimani, all helped save our season. I was at the Arsenal game where Slimani was such a handful he worried their defence so much they couldn’t cope. I don’t know what happened after that and why he hot himself sent off a few games later. Imo he knew he wasn’t being signed and threw the towel in, Dubravka was instrumental and knew he was going to stay. Kenedy thought he’d deserved a contract and shen ee would buy him his head went, where’s his kid going to school, where should I make home. It footed him up, isvthst joe you treat a massively successful loan?

Comment #194 at the back has to be the way forward, I don’t think Bruce is capable of making 5 at the back an offensive system(even tho it could be).
433 or 4231 for me, ideally if we are safe with a few games to go then start to try it out and continue from pre-season. The modern way is to get your fullbacks attacking it seems, shame Willems is knacked as he would have been perfect as our Robertson at LB.

Comment #20Ed/Neil/The Wife – whilst you are on – please take into account – my history of speaking out on here against racists, zenophobes, and the downright trash who use filthy gutter language.
You could also consider sanctioning those who are the real racists or those who without embarrassment cosy up to those who are.
There is a difference in taking the mickey out of a specific Irishman who is very offensive as opposed to generalising about all Irishmen.
Moanster – didn’t hear you complaining when a certain poster on here said all the folk from the Irish Centre in Newcastle went down to the Quayside to sell their backsides. Same bloke you now cosy up to.
Hypocrite.

Comment #22My opinion is that Kenedy has had plenty of chances in his career to nail down something permanent, that not one of those loans was made permanent suggests there’s something not right with him.
Given Bentaleb’s recent troubles, giving him a 5 year deal straight off the bat would be tossing a coin. If he has attitude issues, and it’s an IF, then we’d be stuck with him on a big contract and would have to deal with it.
I’d hope that if there is someone the scouts are sure of then they would be signed permanently obvs, tho big Joe isn’t the poster boy of their footballing knowledge right now.

Comment #25Bowen scores, but just as importantly works hard both ways, up and down that right side.
You get Bowen and Almiron working hard both ways, Bentaleb box to box, with S Longstaff beside him, that’s that critical bit more running, movement and pace where we’ve lacked it, and greater goal threat and passing too.
St Max will start, when fit, he is excellent, but Bowen is a seriously hardworking footballer, physically strong, with a genuine goal threat.

What happens if Lazaro proves himself then decides to not be a footballer like Marveaux did, except he ever proved himself, only failed a medical at Lpool to get a deal here. Imo, and I’m no expert, I think the insecurity footed Kennedy up. Klopp wanted VVD at 75M, his owners backed him. Rafa wanted Kenedy at 20M Ashley said no. You can say all you want about Ashley being right about that, he paid 40M for Joelinton, signed off on Marveaux, Xisco, Saivet, Riverie and countless other flops. Who should be making te decisions here?

Comment #27I don’t want to see us in a hurry to abandon the back three, and go rushing into four at the back, when we are only two or three players away from having the squad to get the current system working as it should.
Our group of defenders suit a back 3 and wing backs.
We add that bit more pace, running and forward passing in the middle of the park to drive us on, get those wingbacks on the ball further up the pitch, then we can become quite a formidable side with only a few additions, and relatively little disruption.
No way is three at the back meant to be played as defensively as we have been playing it, but Bentaleb, Lazaro, Bowen and Rose would change all that in one window, and give us a proper counterattacking group of players. .

Comment #28Alot of nufc signings are more to do with who is selling them what agents are involved and what cut are the agents getting they getting rather than the player, Joelinton is orime example of that Peter Kenyon peddled that deal because his side company quality sports investments owned Joelinton’s 3rd party rights

I just caught up reading the blog from today…….I assumed you’d take my comment from last night as tongue-in-cheek (as was intended)
I was mockingly giving a faux outrage based on the bickering from yesterday (which has sadly carried on today).
