Newcastle Announce Signing Of Arsenal Academy Product

Newcastle United have announced the signing of former Arsenal Academy midfielder Stan Flaherty on a scholarship contract. He was on trial at Newcastle in October.

A few weeks ago, the 18-year-old posted on his Instagram page that he was leaving Arsenal for a new challenge. He also posted a picture of him attending the match against Everton in December. So this doesn’t come as too big of a surprise that Newcastle United is where the midfielder has landed.

This is what the youngster had to say about his time on trial at the club and why he, ultimately, has chosen to join Newcastle:

“It was a good trial. I did a week’s training which was good, and then we played a match against Liverpool.

“The result didn’t go too well as we lost 3-0 but, overall, it was a good week for me as I really enjoyed it here, which is why I was happy to come back.

“My main position is central midfield but I can also play as a number ten and off the wing.

“When you come up here and you see the likes of Sean and Matty (Longstaff) in the first-team, that is a big plus because you think maybe one day that could be you.

“I just want to get playing now so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Stan will link up with the U-18s and could be available to make his debut today against Chelsea.

This is what Academy manager Joe Joyce had to say about the youngster:

“He’s really comfortable with the players already and he’s looking forward to getting started.

“He’s got good pedigree in terms of the time he’s spent with Arsenal and people we’ve spoken to there have given him really good commendations, so we’re excited about the prospect of getting him in the squad, along with Reagan Thomson who joined us last week.”

The hope was that Newcastle would bring in first-team additions as well as strengthen the Academy this month.

Well so far so good as we’ve brought in two players for the first team, Nabil Bentaleb and Valentino Lazaro, and both Reagan Thomson and Stan Flaherty for the Academy.

We are pleased that Stan is now a Magpie, and we hope he can progress over the next few years and make an impact in the Newcastle first team.

We can confirm that there is some foundation to the story in the Wall Street Journal that the Saudi Royal Wealth Fund have been in talks to buy NUFC. However they’re not the only group at the table, and the presence of Amanda Staveley in the report is a concern, given the past.

If this does happen, which it probably won’t, I would love to see Rafa come back at some point in the future. Don’t sack Bruce he’s done amazing and NEEDS to be kept on but the way we can pay rafa back is by letting us be his legacy. Poetical.

Takeover? About as much chance of that as of us winning the FA Cup. More talk, told you before, Ashley doesn’t really want to sell, just more publicity for him.

Which bit do you think he will pretend to want to sell ?
Im thinking half the first team and Lee Charnley on loan till the end of the season, with the option to sack him

Lesh…………. I told you that there would eventually be things we could agree on.
By the way you didn’t reply when I asked you if you would be going to London on the 31st to join in with Nige’s knees up?

The buyer may be real, but does the seller intend to sell? This is the key question here.

As ever the rumours might well be true, but it makes no difference if the fat controller doesn’t feel like walking away.

Nah, not believing this at all.

What’s the point, we’d be fools at this point to get carried away. Roll on reports of the talks breaking down because they don’t have the funds blah blah blah.

It is hard to believe they will roll out the takeover tram again for another trundle down barrack road. Trying to ride the “cup run fever” rail for as long as possible until the wheels loosen. 🙂

This would actually be the unthinkable alternative to Ashley. Imagine the price of a serious investor and a successful club under the ownership of that lot. Doesn’t bear thinking about.

It’s that time of the year for the fakeover bollocks.Bishop and co are under instruction to peddle this nonsense every January.2 loan players who have hardly played for their clubs have joined Sports Direct FC and we are meant to be delighted. There should be at least £25 million in the pot from last season to spend but the parasite will pocket it as usual. Its all run on the cheap with no ambition,I’m expecting a LB on loan by the end of the window. It looks like job done for the parasite re safety.I wonder how many tickets he’ll give away next season to fill the zombie ground.
