The Wall Street Journal have a report out that a Saudi Sovereign-Wealth fund is in talks for a potential £340m takeover of Newcastle United.
The article is subscription only but the Northern Echo has also written a report on this news.
The buyer would be the Public Investment Fund, which is headed by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Saudi Wealth Fund is reportedly joined by British financier Amanda Staveley who was involved in a takeover attempt of Newcastle a few years ago.
Mike Ashley has long held that a takeover will only happen quickly and behind closed doors. So this latest report seems a bit dodgy although it is being reported by three journalists with the Wall Street Journal.
This latest takeover rumor comes on the heels of Roma’s co-owner James Pallotta’s reported interest in Newcastle once he is able to sell his majority shares in the Serie A club.
However, Pallotta has recently denied any interest in purchasing Newcastle. We’ll see what comes of this latest takeover talk.

Comment #11This takeover scenario could be our most realistic hope of ridding ourselves and society of the Ogre that is Mike Ashley. I don’t mean to suggest that Ashley is likely to conform to a straightforward fair minded business negotiation resulting in the club being sold, we all know he is not capable of that. However when the inevitable goal post moving and insulting of the interested buyers kicks in , then this could hopefully lead to the very painful demise of our delightful owner.

Comment #12Anyway easy win today , they haven’t won a game in 2020 and have a quite a few of first team out with injuries ….surely even we can’t mess this up – hoping for an easy home fixture in 5th round

Comment #13Could Mikey boy’s WhatsApp’ been compromised?
If he ever needs to go to the Saudi embassy will he walk out or smuggled out in a Bin liner? (that might be too subtle for some!)
He might just realise that these guys don’t like pi$$ takers and get the help out of our club.
On the downside, this might turn out to be yet another distraction, a side-show in Mikeyboy’s circus.

Comment #18As much as I would love this latest takeover news to be true, the fact that it is in the news makes the thing dubious. Even AshLie said it would be in the news once it’s done and dusted. Also Stavley involved again and at £340m? If he were a trillionaire as mentioned why not off AshLie £400m to guarantee it’s a done deal, no wheeling and dealing needed of your that filthy rich I would assume.

Comment #23So with an estimated 30M in the pot we are reaping the rewards of the special relationship between Mikey and Steve and the manager has been backed to the tune of two loans who have four competitive games a year between them. I hope Stevie doesn’t upset Mike and he withdraws his support.
