Three Newcastle Lads Get Starts On Loan This Evening

Jacob Murphy was handed his 12th start for Sheffield Wednesday at Wigan this afternoon. The 24-year-old scored his 4th goal of the season in the 32nd minute to put the Owls up 1-0. However, Wigan were able to snatch two second-half goals to get all three points.

Here is a clip of Murphy’s goal and it’s a wonderful header from the winger.

Midfielder Dan Barlaser made his 10th straight start for Rotherham as they defeated Ipswich Town 1-0 at home this evening. It was Dan’s 25th start in all competitions since joining the Millers. The win keeps Rotherham top of League One on 50 points.

Kelland Watts made his debut in the starting eleven for Mansfield Town as they traveled to face Oldham. However, it was one to forget for the 20-year-old as Mansfield fell 3-1 to the Latics. Watts played the entire game and was used in a defensive midfield role. The loss drops The Stags to 21st in League Two just 2 points above the relegation places.

Amanda Staveley is involved because she knows Chris Mort of Freshfields, an accomplished acquisitions lawyer specialising in the sports and leisure markets; she knows the Reuben Brothers, a pair of ultra-rich sports and leisure investment businessmen known previously to be interested in acquiring a share of Newcastle United and she knows Justin Barnes and his team, responsible for Ashley’s disposals and legal proceedings. That’s Ashley’s business, not Sports Direct, btw.

Also, she’s prepared to lay herself open to financial risk on this deal and has the time and money to devote herself to this with as much effort as is required to get it done.

Finally, she’s been down this road once before with Man City and, more recently, NUFC. She knows the pitfalls that lie in wait from both the football regulatory authorities and from Ashley / Barnes themselves. Forewarned is forearmed.

Yes, the PIF could have made these connections themselves, yes they have enough money to cover it and yes they could have put their own people on it, but it’s surely easier and more prudent to let Staveley (who presumably brought the deal to the PIF’s notice in the first place) get on with it?

Tsunki – surely buying weapons is completely different from buying a football club – you wouldn’t employ a car salesman to help you buy a house? To me it makes perfect sense for them to use Amanda who has experience in the Man City deal and a lot of connections in football and the Arab world by all accounts.
The only thing that doesn’t make sense is her having a stake in the deal – surely she would just be paid a fee based on percentage of the deal?

Mindshaft, stories are rarely validated, I’m sure, but they are quickly refuted if they are inaccurate.

The fact that this hasn’t been is what makes me think there’s truth in it. In fact, every day that goes by without a statement from the PIF in particular to say it’s nonsense should only increase our certainty that they are talking, at least.

What remains to be seen is how advanced those talks are, and this seems to be the subject of wide speculation from all media sources.

Jib – on the subject of loans I can only find this:
“Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time. – The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time. – 1 Jan 2019

I can see no discrimination between domestic and overseas loans?

The Stavely association just adds to the theory this story is fabricated , especially the 10% equity part – you use a broker usually because of reputation or regulatory purposes and you pay a fee on a percentage basis – you do not give equity on a deal where you believe you can triple/quadruple the price unless you don’t have enough cash or think that the asset you’re buying has a large risk and you want to effectively hedge some of the risk.
Given that PIF has multi – billions under it’s belt and it’s own risk department for market/operational and counterparty risk, why give Stavely equity – you would effectively be throwing money at her

    Agree with you on why.

I would say if she is paid a fee it doesn’t guarantee them getting the best deal possible especially as she is close to all parties.

If she has a 10% share she is definitely going to make sure they get the best deal and that the ongoing project is a success

Emmanuel Adebayor, maybe late to the table on this one, but WTF.

What’s next, see if Ian Wright can play, maybe big Dunc could come out of retirement.

God I hope this is just paper talk, didn’t even think Em A was playing anymore.

JaF – that’s the bottom line , if he’s asking to keep a 10% stake and advertising then unlikely anybody who can afford to buy outright will probably walk away – they’re already allegedly giving 10% to Stavely , 10% to Reuben bros, anyone else … they won’t have voting rights before long 😀

Anyone notice how the notion of this deal succeeding or failing/falling flat on its face is creeping to the forefront of reports. Getting people used the idea of the latter methinks.

    Not convinced at all.

Staveley heads up PCP which is in itself an investment broker which in turn could invite investors to punt on its 10% stake in a consortium.?

The equity thing with Staveley was an idea of mine, I haven’t seen it anywhere else and it’s probably nonsense, as people have pointed out before – it definitely shouldn’t be given any air time.

Jail “We don’t even know if Stavely is involved” – well, if she isn’t then why not come out and say so? You can’t think that she owes Ashley any favours after he did his best to humiliate her last time around?

toon kk – see above – I don’t see any reason at all why Staveley would work with / for Ashley ever again after he labelled her a ‘tyre kicker’ and a ‘waste of time’. She has a reputation to uphold, after all.

lesh – highly unlikely PIF would allow it, just not great business practice unless you’re scraping around for the money , in which case you’re probably up the creek without a paddle and at the beck and call of the bankers / brokers rather than the other way round
