Steve Bruce has been handed another injury blow according to a report in the Daily Mail. Craig Hope is reporting that Jonjo Shelvey will miss another month with a hamstring strain.
EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is set for a spell on the sidelines with a muscle injury#NUFChttps://t.co/WaUCS30za7
— MailOnline Sport (@MailSport) January 29, 2020
Shelvey last played for Newcastle in the Chelsea win a few weeks ago. Since then, he made the trip to Everton one week ago but did not get on the pitch. He was not in the squad that only managed a draw against Oxford.
The 27-year-old has had a struggle with injuries since last season when he missed much of the campaign with a thigh injury. He’s also missed a few games this season with various injuries, including a calf injury that kept him out of the loss to Burnley in December.
Thankfully, Bruce has cover at the position with the Longstaff brothers, new signing Nabil Bentaleb, and utility man Isaac Hayden, who has spent much of the past month covering at right wing-back and even center-back.
Jonjo remains Newcastle’s leading scorer with 5 goals in his 15 Premier League appearances. He is one of nine current Magpies who are injured at the moment, including Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems, who are out for the season with Jetro having returned to the Netherlands to start his long road back from his most recent knee injury.

Captain AmeriMag has returned to once again fight the evil forces of Takeover Negativity!
As I’m sure you will have deduced, the disappearance of the BZG was like kryptonite to my positivity powers, so I was forced to retreat to the Northumbrian Foothills and find a solitary cave to rebuild myself through silent meditation.
This got real boring real quick though, so I condensed my rehabilitation into an 80’s style training montage and swiftly reintegrated myself into match going society.
My football optimism would slowly return through Steve Bruce’s reassuring sound bites, some decent signings, Maxi’s hilarious Twitter feed, the lads getting proper stuck in and the Almighty Bruce naming full strength FA Cup teams.
I was content, everything was fine, I could even hold a conversation with Mrs AmeriMag without my mind constantly craving the next news now refresh.
Then one day I pick up my phone to check the team news for the Oxford game and what are my disbelieving eyeballs met with? A fresh tidal wave of takeover talk!
Don’t pay any attention John,I think (secret identity blown) just focus on the game John, try and think about ANYTHING else John.
Unfortunately the Oxford game was abysmal so I thought about nothing but the takeover throughout.
Days pass and I ignore it as much as I can, but the odd Google search here, a sneaky Twitter check there and a few believers coming back to the blog then it happens…like being bitten by a radioactive spider…boom!
CAPTAIN AMERIMAG IS BACK!!
This is it, it’s actually happening boys. Not only that, it’s going to bigger and better than we ever dreamed it could be.
Not a significant improvement in finances, we’re about to become the richest football club on the planet.
Say that out loud and let it sink in.
Embrace the positivity, it will warm your soul all the way to the Champion’s League!
It’s happening #cans

Comment #5“My understanding is that everything that has come out over the weekend is right and that this has progressed to a stage where the finishing line is in sight.
“But, the key point AGAIN is to say that it hasn’t got to the stage where it’s been signed and agreed, even though a lot of things have been agreed during these conversations that have been happening.
“This is something that’s been on the cards for months. My understanding is that this goes back a lot further (than four months).
“Staveley’s interest in the club has never gone away (since her 3 bids two years ago) and this latest incarnation has been around certainly since before Benitez left last summer – but it’s really ramped up in the last few months and weeks.
“Obviously the game changer this time is the involvement in Saudi Arbai’s sovereign wealth funds – and none of this stuff has been denied, whether it’s from the club’s side, or from Ashley’s side or Saudi Arabia.
“So there is a widespread assumption that this is genuine.
“My understanding is that it’s got to the stage it’s pretty much make your mind up time (for Ashley).
“Things like price has been agreed and most of the big details have been agreed – there’s still a few stumbling blocks – but in the context of a deal like this, I think if it was any other kind of deal in the financial world, you’d be pretty much saying it’s done.
“However, this isn’t done…yet…
“Again, everything I’m told is if it doesn’t happen this time, it’s because of one man.
“It’s not some amazingly devious trick from the mind of Keith Bishop. They are genuine people who’ve been trying to buy the club for a long time.”

Comment #9So, there we see George Caulkin, a confidant of Amanda Staveley, putting the pressure on and telling us how it is.
“Again, everything I’m told is if it doesn’t happen this time, it’s because of one man.”
Howay, Mike, do the decent thing.

Comment #11So even if we do or do not get taken over, it is looking more and more likely that we are not getting any serious transfer targets in now, all I can possibly see now at the most is a last minute pointless past it player being loaned in

Comment #15Well that’s one set of fans totally sidelined,
The one’s who said it was a fakeover fabricated by Ashley and his PR team with not a jot of truth to the rumours..
All we need now is the ‘Ashley will never sell because he’s making a fortune from the club’ brigade to be proven wrong and it’s a done deal.
Here’s hoping.

Comment #16I got a phone call this morning with an automated message saying that my internet will be cut off due to illegal activity and that I should press 1 to speak to a technical engineer.
Needless to say I didn’t as it is almost certainly a scam of some sort.
However the voice does sound very convincing and it would be very easy to think it is real.
Just thought I’d mention it in case anyone else has had the same call, be interested to get some feedback on this.
My internet provider has not contacted me about anything so it probably is a phishing thing>

Comment #18What really bad luck on Jonjo, it’s been obvious that he’s been struggling in games so that report comes as no surprise to me.
To his detractors get some facts before you start writing him (or anyone for that matter) off.

Comment #19Caulkin also adds in the Athletic podcast that the leaks are not helpful but are not a ploy either. He thinks Ashley could react adversely with it in the public. So hopefully that’s not the case and he sells up. I cannot see how he can continue as owner if he kills this opportunity for this club.

Comment #21People saying Ashley won’t sell because it’s a cash cow and I know he siphons money out of the club with the catering, club shop, free advertising etc but if he bought the club for £110m and loaned it £130m surely this is a chance to make over a £100m profit in one hit – it would take a while to siphon that out the club!

Comment #25Hear, hear, Neil – his position would be untenable, no way could the likes of Rio, Jordan and Martin Samuel claim he was a willing seller any longer.

Comment #39Sorry to read Ed has taken a down turn again. Sad news, hope he pulls through again.
I hate to come back here and be negative, but I don’t think that the takeover naysayers have been proven wrong, yet. We were ‘closer than ever’ with BZG and that was a failure. So far this is no diffetent.
Id love a takeover to happen, but because its good for NUFC, Not because I want to be obnoxious towards people who have every right to be negative and untrusting about it.

Why would Brucie be moved on in the Summer if there’s no change of ownership. Couldn’t see it happening even if we were relegated.
