Yesterday, a report revealed that Hull City had told Jarrod Bowen of their intention to trigger the year-long extension on his current contract. This option will keep Bowen at Hull for an extra year to 2021.
It comes amid a new contract offer that Bowen has yet to sign. This latest development could signify that Hull are resigned to losing their star forward as they have been unable to tie him down long-term.
The Shields Gazette are now reporting that Hull may have lowered their asking price for the 23-year-old from north of £20m to £18m.
If true, then Hull are likely willing to sell Bowen this month knowing that his value will drop even further by this summer when he’ll have just the one year remaining on his contract.
Hopefully, Newcastle will take advantage of this situation and go in with an increased offer for Bowen. Recent reports claim Newcastle were willing to offer £12m plus add-ons, so why not just offer £15m and see if Hull bite at that amount.
Of course, we’re not quite sure how the latest takeover talk will affect the final few days of the window. But the club should press forward with their targets this month.
If we can bring in Bowen, a left-back, and maybe a striker, we should be fine for the rest of this season.

Comment #17I think many people have missed the point that according to George Caulkin this latest takeover bid is a continuation of Amanda Staveley trying to buy the club after obviously having failed at her previous attempt.
If Caulkin has it right then it is Staveley who approached the Saudis for investment in her quest to buy the club as opposed to them being the direct buyers and recruiting her to negotiate for them.
Clearly they will have a representative involved in the negotiations for a deal of this magnitude but it looks like Amanda has never given up, hence her silence since her last attempt, and for this she has to be given credit as one determined lady.

Comment #24Missed the bus – haven’t posted for a while although continued to read as I was totally depressed at last summer’s fiasco. I just want to be able to love my club again and have a feeling of hope. Was sceptical until I saw caulkins update.
There’s no doubt who will be to blame and I think maybe he will know it this time due to the Saudi involvement.
Hoping this one’s the real deal
Wood also like to pass on best wishes to Ed and thanks to Neil and the wife for their fine work in keeping us going

Tony Jimenez, who was reportedly appointed by Mike Ashley in January 2008 to sell Newcastle United once said: “Mike wanted me to sell the club on the basis of my relationships with the Middle East. If he had played his cards right Mike could have sold Newcastle to Abu Dhabi before they bought Manchester City.
Fast forward 12 years that have seen a catalogue of disastrous appointments, staggering mismanagement, commercial and sporting stagnation, baffling decisions and two relegations at a club that was playing Champions League football four years prior to Ashley taking over.
Now, we understand that one of the wealthiest investment groups in football history has made what has been described as an acceptable bid for Newcastle United. Reports suggest the finances are in order, due diligence has been completed and proof of funds has been confirmed.
Amanda Staveley previously brokered the Manchester City deal on behalf of the Abu Dhabi group. The expertise is there. The money is there. The last remaining hurdle is Ashley’s answer.
Mike Ashley has long said that he would step aside once there was somebody that could take our club to the next level. Previous takeover attempts have apparently proved to be a waste of his time.
However, we believe that this time he has a concrete bid, proof of funds is not an issue and there is a willing buyer. If he really does want to sell the club as he has said, he should accept the offer and end this toxic relationship once and for all.
Ashley should not stand in the way of this once in a lifetime opportunity for our club, our communities and our proud city. It’s time for him to take his money and get out of our club.

Many, but not all
😉
Totally agree about the “one determined lady” point. I said the other day that I think Staveley took it personally when Ashley called her a ‘time waster’ and has been determined to get the last laugh since then. By bringing the PIF to the table, she’s brought out the big guns and forced Ashley into a corner.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer fella!

Comment #34I have no reason to doubt George Caulkin’s version of events as he has direct access to Staveley so should be somewhere near the actual facts here.
Also I can’t imagine that he would generate more false hope for the Geordie nation.

Comment #36Jib……… Aye he looked a bit rusty as he hasn’t played for a while. Should have scored with his second chance but his movement, positioning and instincts show him to be a natural centre forward.
