Four Newcastle Lads Get Starts On Loan This Afternoon

Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman has started all 30 league games for Swansea since joining in the summer. This afternoon it was in a 1-1 draw at Preston North End. Scott Sinclair opened his Preston account against his former club with a goal in the 28th minute. Just 5 minutes later, Liverpool starlet Rhiann Brewster bagged the second goal of his loan spell with Swansea to level the score. It remained that way as 8th placed Swansea get an away point against the team one place above them in the Championship table.

Jacob Murphy has been getting a run of games for Sheffield Wednesday lately. He’s made the most of the opportunity as he’s scored 2 goals in his previous three starts. His starting streak in the league reached 4 in the 0-0 draw at home against Millwall. Jacob lasted 67 minutes before being replaced by Alessio Da Cruz, who just joined the Owls on loan from Parma.

Midfielder Dan Barlaser has become the first name on the teamsheet at League One leaders Rotherham over the past few months. He made his tenth straight start for the Millers this afternoon and got his 4th assist over that stretch. Rotherham won their fifth straight league game with the 3-2 victory at home over Sunderland nemesis Burton Albion. Barlaser was brought off in the 74th minute for Matt Olosunde.

It’s two games and two starts for Kelland Watts since he joined Mansfield Town last week. This time he played on the right-side of a back three in a 2-2 draw at home against Carlisle. In his previous match, Watts played as a midfielder. Kelland played the entire 90 minutes once again for the Stags.

I see we got one of them massive 0-0 draws I was talking about.

You play with no striker and you suffer but apparently we didn’t really need to buy a striker in January according to some people.

    Lovely.

rabbits in the headlights going forward no movement of the ball , don’t attack as a unit, cannot close down opposition. Passing to slow and laboured in midfield. End up defending deep in two lines of 5. JoeLinton left to plough a lone furrow up front. More frightened of losing and winning – very similar to the Fulham game last year.
Great send off for Krul at end of game
    Marks
Dubravka 8 – my man man of the match – would of been down and buried if not for two top draw saves first half
Yedlin 5 – ok defending but his crossing was mostly woeful when in great positions
Fernandez 7 – best outfield player great last minute tackle when Puckie was going to pull the trigger. Tried to get the team forward
Lascalles 6 – does what he does best defending but does not try anything different
Clarck 6 – as Lascalles keeps it simple likes to defend but tends to pass sideways to often
Ritchie 5 – poor today but not a full back – better when pushed forward for Rose coming in
Bentleg 5 – Poor mans Shelvey sits to deep in front of defence passes the simple ball – no killer passes or tries anything poor in tackle
Hayden 6 – good at defending tackling but does not give much going forward
Almiron 8 – what a engine good in defence and carrying the ball forward good at passing today – BUT plays far to deep and given far to much to do. Missed a sitter from Kruls palm out
Saint Max 6 – lot of dribbles but no end product – needs to get head up and pass the ball a lot quicker
KoeLinton 6 – did ok but needs help up front left isolated far to often brought a excellent save out of Krul pity Almiron missed the palm out
    Subs
Longstaffe 6- added a bit of energy in midfield tried to get things going forward but lack of movement from players around him
Lazaro 6 – looks a good aquasition showed a bit of class and composure when he came on – showed movement off the ball and found space off the ball
Rose 6 – another who looks a class above half of wor lot on the pitch – great on the ball – best part of the match was when he sent three of their players wrong way and slipped Ritchie through
Bruce 2 – good substitutions booked looked clueless on what to do

Going to be a long slog to end of season to get the points for safety
Might make – just – but hell we are going to have to play a lot lot better

I agree Bruce is no world class manager as for only getting sixth with Liverpools team, we’ll never know but they have a outstanding squad.

Where do you think we should be in the league with our players?

And btw, the poster Jamaal Dubravka said there’s only one man to blame. I hope he meant Mike Ashley as there is absolutely no point in blaming this latest patsy in the hot seat, he’s clueless and seemingly oblivious to the people he’s dealing with.

Sorry mate predictive text mistake hadn’t realised.
I totally agree would love to see our style of play be totally different but my point is we lack quality for the Premier league so we have to scrape our points together.
But 10th is good with what we have.
We need to strengthen to change.

I am starting to almost wonder if Benitez had one-eye on his replacement, back when he started switching the system to a 5 at the back. Possibly aware of what was about to follow.

Had Rafa stuck with his regimented 4-4-1-1/4-2-3-1, prior to Bruce coming in; what kind of position would the club be facing right now?

I distinctly recall Benitez attempting 5 at the back on a few occasions—once against Chelsea—and it didn’t work out: Rafa thankfully seemed adamant on pursuing 5 at the back, all within his contract being in its final year.

Call it whatever you like, but Bruce has been left with solid foundations which have saved the club this season. How much more mileage can you get out of a Rafa drilled defence without Rafa manning the wheel, is the question.

It’s translucent as daylight that Bruce needs to switch away from 5 at the back next season, and without wanting to be a malcontent, I honestly don’t trust Bruce to implement the necessary changes that are required to compete in the Premier League.

2020/2021 season — stick with 5 at the back and get dominated at every ground in the country whilst trying to keep riding lady luck, or, play 4 at the back and try to be progressive and possibly get killed off. Decisions, decisions. I would prefer the latter, embracing the chance of escaping futile limbo for a few moments.

It’s just that I would expect anyone working and beavering away on behalf of club /Ashley propaganda to come out and defend him if the admin on the site used a word like Squirming, as a word from the admin is worth a thousand from any anon blog writer.

So I would expect anyone working for Ashley , on Charnleys orders, to jump on the admin on such an important world wide known celebrated on TV and radio, and press, and all around the internet internationally known website as this one is, to react with some speed in attacking the admin of such an important celebrated website, as you both did .

You don’t want the rot setting in here with the admin but there’s nothing you can do about it admin calls a spade a spade..tells it like it is .

Ashley causes his own negativity among the fan base and the media and supporters he tries to manipulate with staged interviews.

Well that Ashley manipulation does not work here ..people have their own minds and can recognise Bullshit from Ashley.

You were both quick to jump on Admin..woe betide anyone giving Ashley a bad name eh ?

    Your too late.

I was happy to give Bruce the benefit of the doubt this season and get behind him.

But right now he is using excuses to mask his negative approach and limited coaching ability to get us playing wit any form of style and tactics.

Playing 5 at the back doesnt mean we have to be poor on the ball and limited in attack. It is simply one of many formations teams can use, all of which was be effective if coached properly.

starting games at home vs league 1 teams and bottom of the table teams with a 541 defensive formation and more importantly attitude gives off the wrong impression, almost a defeatist attitude of not trusting our ability to be able to win these games and have to approach them as the underdog.

Thats a defeatist approach, same as telling everyone who will listen that the players wouldnt be able to handle a chance in approach – if you tell them that enough times then they will start to believe it themselves.

If we played 3 CBs but used that style to be effective in pressing high and squeezing the mid-bottom of the table teams then id be fine with that, there is a positive purpose to our play even with 3 CBs in the team.

Bruce has set us up with an inferior attitude to games now, going into every game with a scared mentality that we arent good enough and so will have to get everyone behind the ball and scrape our way to safety. That is how league 1 and 2 teams would approach playing a Prem team, its not how we should be doing it. Yes ok for playing vs the top 6, but every other team coming to St James should be under pressure from the start and being hassled, squeezed and pressurized for the whole match.

tactics make the difference, any formation can be effective if coached positively.

So, if Ashley blows out the takeover citing “tyre kickers” or something similar, which means he’s staying for years to come, will any of us have any appetite to support the team? Remember it means he doesn’t want to improve or win anything, just avoid relegation!
I will need to find something meaningful to fill my time!

For my two pennorth, I didn’t think we were worse than Norwich, or better and a draw was a fair result to both teams.

I also thought Joelinton had a good game only second to Miggy for the effort he put and wasn’t it him who made that goal line clearance when a goal for them looked dead certain. Think he is improving but I agree that he’s not a striker and was struggling to get the better of Hanley on the physical side of things. I’d have loved to have seen AC mixing it with him we need him back soon.

Someone mentioned it a few days ago but it would make sense to keep Miggy upfield when the opposition have a corner, it would stop them loading up our box in all of the corners we always give away and he’s quick enough to break upfield and cause them problems if not score. Simple tactics and having him back only makes the box more congested for the actual defenders.

At the minute you could bring Klopp in and I think he would struggle to change the mindset of our players.
Play is so slow and negative cannot recall over the past few seasons we have played any one-twos give and goes threaded passes through defences – no tempo to our game – once a player passes the ball he seems to be under instructions to get back behind the ball!!!

The only way we are going to get out of being ultra defensive is to change formations(4-3-3, 4-2-3-1) and at this point I don’t think Bruce knows how/has the ability to do it.

Anglo the number of corners we give away was one of my points so I’m not sure why you want to pull me up on that.

And Joelinton did put in a shift today it was even pointed out by one of the commentators but if you read my post fully I did also say I didn’t think he is a proper striker, not sure what he is but I think there is ability lurking within him, we just haven’t seen it yet.

Not sure that I’d want him cutting my hair though! 🙂

    Young Brucie

If your reading this tell your old man to stop playing Ashleys games with the supporters ..the supporters are very well educated in the world of football ..be it tactically or politically .

Telling the support we had a bid in for a player that would break the club record incoming transfer fees just as the transfer window was closing, while we missed out on Bowen who wanted to come here at less than half the price takes some believing .

We might well of been in for him but on Ashleys terms ..offering a lowball wage maybe and that in the knowledge that the player and his agent would reject it .

    There’s a rabbit off.

Tell your old man not to do Ashleys dirty work in public ..we see right through it .

Steve Bruce seems a decent bloke but if he takes a lend of us on behalf of Ashley and becomes Ashleys manipulating mouthpiece and conveys Ashleys lies and manipulation he will be detested in the north east for all time .

Young Brucie ..we see through it all..tell your old man to tread carefully and never to try such like again.

    Well
I am just back from the game
Having wasted 6 hours of my time
    Today was simply woeful
Not individually but collectively and most frustrating ,was thesheer incompetence of Bruce
I could criticise some of the players but in truth they did what they were being asked to do
Why why why stick with 3 centre half’s
We gave away central midfield and left Joelinton completely isolated ok he is not the best but has no chance up front on his own.
They played with on forward and dominated midfield ,there was no change from the bench when lots of choices existed.
We made grant handled look cultured he was under no pressure .
It is ok playing a five when we are against teams that come on to us but not leaving the middle of the park short when we need to take the initiative
    Simply woeful
