Like West Ham’s new signing Jarrod Bowen was, Brentford winger Said Benrahma is destined for a Premier League move in the near future. Whether that is with the Bees, who sit fifth in the Championship, or a Premier League club swoops for him in the summer, is yet to be determined.
The 24-year-old is garnering a lot of attention with his performances in the second tier. In January, Aston Villa reportedly weighed up a move for the Algerian, who Brentford were desperate to keep hold of for a promotion push
Benrahma has done considerably well in the Championship since joining Brentford in 2018 from Nice for just £1.5m. Last season he has 11 goals and 17 assists. He has followed that up with 8 goals and 6 assists this season.
The Sun are reporting that both Newcastle and Leicester City plan on making a summer move for the £15m rated player.
Newcastle were unwilling to match any bids for Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen on deadline day despite reports that the player preferred Newcastle to West Ham.
So we’ll see if that’s also the case for Benrahma, who played his final season at Nice with our own Allan Saint-Maximin. He also has three caps for Algeria so is an international teammate of Nabil Bentaleb.

Comment #2Bill, seems it’s time to get those plates spinning again!
We’ll go for this guy only if Lazaro decides not to stay long-term. And maybe not even then.

Comment #3Talking of Lazaro, do he and Bentaleb actually need a mid-season break? Bentaleb has played a couple of matches and been subbed in each, Lazaro has had 30 minutes of football with us, with neither playing regularly for their parent clubs this season.
Would it be better to keep them here and play a couple of competitive games with the Under 23s to help them get to match fitness?

Comment #4As much as he looks like a good player do we really want to sign another African player next season!?
Seeing as we will miss them for a good chunk of the season next term!!?

I would actually like to see a few of our players who need game time play some kind of football during the break
Especially as I can see the likes of Gayle , Muto or Carroll getting chucked straight in would rather they got a few friendlies to ease them in

Comment #7As they are off to Marbella I would have thought a good workout at some of the nightspots would do all of the squad the world of good.

From a couple of articles ago.
Agreed, mate. We need better product from our FBs than we got last night. Richie tries hard, but isn’t a full back and gives silly fouls away. Yedlin is just all raw, Brutal pace, with no actual footballing finesse imo.

Comment #9Players have a few days off – no training or football – doubt we’ll be setting any freindlies up, think it’s good that Lazarro / Rose and Bentelab can spend more time integrating with team and bruce can work on errr tactics.
LCBP – We only have Atsu who barely gets a game anyway, happy to have a player from anywhere if he’ll make a difference – unlikely we’ll have Rose or Lazarro next season and even Bentalab may not sign if he does well and gets another offer – Bruce will have to build yet again next summer with whatever he is given

Comment #10I see Yedlin is the scapegoat for now, guess we’ve moved on from S Longstaff and Linton – not so long ago people on here were saying he’s by far our best RWB

On Bentaleb and lazaro. I see your point, but if its a team break, maybe bonding with thier new team mates might be benificial, outside of the training or match day environment.

I think Atsu will possibly be gone in the summer
Bentaleb for 9 million is a deal we will do I imagine
Lazarro and Rose not sure we will sign them
Its going to be a huge summer for us actually we will need to shift about 8 out and replace them…..

Comment #15Don’t know which people were saying Yedlin was our best wing back. However, last night was no different for him. He sails past players, but does nothing with the ball afterwards. It’s not scapegoating him, it’s just an analysis of how he plays. I’m not the only one who thinks that. It’s not as if I’m being Abusive about him, I just don’t think he has anything particularly useful in his game appart from his speed.

Comment #16LCBP – seems like every other transfer window – the problem is shifting the crap we have is proving rather difficult as for obvious reasons , players are not going to readily accept a pay cut hence why we have so many players running down contracts

Comment #17I think some of you are missing the point of this mid-season break. It’s supposed to be a complete break from football for the players with not even any friendlies played!

Comment #23Yedlin used to take flak for being defensively poor but hes actually pretty good at dealing with wingers due to his pace but his final ball is poor the amount of times he gets into good positions is crazy but he rarely delivers a chance
Look at the difference of Robertson and Arnold for Liverpool we need wingbacks who can put the ball into the right areas to create clear chances

Comment #24Other than the first half , most of our players were poor – Ritchie for all his work ethic offered nothing and stupidly gave away the foul that led to their first goal – Yedlin is not great but at least gives an outlet and given our alternatives ( Krafth ), is clearly the best we have at the moment – Manquillo should be fit soon who I think offers more but he won’t be here next season so we’ll be stuck with Yedlin and Krafth and whoever else Nickson scouts – I think RWB won’t be a priority for Ashley/Nickson as we have more pressing matters such as a striker and a creative box to box midfielder in the mould of cough, splutter Jordan Henderson

Comment #29Yedlin was our best RB(not that it was difficult to achieve), his pace for attack made up for his suspect defending… He probably seems awful because he gets into decent positions and then doesn’t know what to do and just 9 times out of 10 delivers and awful ball.. I am hoping Lazaro can prove to be an upgrade

Comment #35More from Bryan Swanson:
“@skysports_bryan
Masters: “The acquisition of football clubs, the passing of the Owners’ & Directors’ Test, are just about the most confidential processes in the regulatory side of the Premier League operations.”
‘Masters’ is Richard Masters, CEO of the Premier League.
So he’s essentially said nothing, but could have said ‘nothing is happening’. What he actually said is ‘if something was happening, not only could I not tell you it is, I also couldn’t tell you that it isn’t’, which is essentially what he said in his earlier comment.
By the power of logic, that means that something is happening, but also may not be.
I think.
It’s now become Schroedinger’s takeover.
