Newcastle finally have gotten past the fourth round of the FA Cup. It took a dramatic late winner to do so after Oxford mounted a commendable late comeback in the second half.
However, Allan Saint-Maximin scored a screamer after skipping past the Oxford defenders to give Newcastle the great win. There was also a stellar bit of defensive work by Ciaran Clark, who won the ball deep to start the sequence of play that led to Allan’s winner.
We will now travel to face West Brom in the fifth round and a chance in the final eight. The official date and time of the match was announced earlier today.

We were dreading penalties as the seconds continued to tick away towards the end of extra time. But our French winger finally got his just rewards with just 5 minutes to go to spare us the cruelty of a penalty shoot-out.
The Chronicle have published some of Allan’s comments about the game and Newcastle’s desire to keep going in this competition.
“With penalties sometimes you win sometimes you don’t. That’s why we spoke about it and said don’t go there.
“We couldn’t have lost it after going 2-0 up. That’s why I did everything to win.”
“We must keep going for our fans. I know we can make history. That’s why we must prepare well and play West Brom.
“We must take the cup seriously.”
Steve Bruce has not skirted the FA Cup this season. He declared he would take it seriously the moment he was appointed. The head coach has done just that by picking the strongest team possible.
Last night was no different, even if Allan Saint-Maximin started from the bench. The Frenchman was there in reserve in case he was needed. It turned out that he was needed and answered the call to send Newcastle to the next round.
