‘We Must Take The Cup Seriously’ Declares Newcastle’s FA Cup Hero

Newcastle finally have gotten past the fourth round of the FA Cup. It took a dramatic late winner to do so after Oxford mounted a commendable late comeback in the second half.

However, Allan Saint-Maximin scored a screamer after skipping past the Oxford defenders to give Newcastle the great win. There was also a stellar bit of defensive work by Ciaran Clark, who won the ball deep to start the sequence of play that led to Allan’s winner.

We will now travel to face West Brom in the fifth round and a chance in the final eight. The official date and time of the match was announced earlier today.

We were dreading penalties as the seconds continued to tick away towards the end of extra time. But our French winger finally got his just rewards with just 5 minutes to go to spare us the cruelty of a penalty shoot-out.

The Chronicle have published some of Allan’s comments about the game and Newcastle’s desire to keep going in this competition.

“With penalties sometimes you win sometimes you don’t. That’s why we spoke about it and said don’t go there.

“We couldn’t have lost it after going 2-0 up. That’s why I did everything to win.”

“We must keep going for our fans. I know we can make history. That’s why we must prepare well and play West Brom.

“We must take the cup seriously.”

Steve Bruce has not skirted the FA Cup this season. He declared he would take it seriously the moment he was appointed. The head coach has done just that by picking the strongest team possible.

Last night was no different, even if Allan Saint-Maximin started from the bench. The Frenchman was there in reserve in case he was needed. It turned out that he was needed and answered the call to send Newcastle to the next round.

Apparently the police are now on #chopperwatch.

They’ve asked the public for information about the lad who was waving it around after ASM’s goal.

We haven’t slagged off Bruce for giving the players time off. He obviously hasn’t a clue, the wretched dinosaur. Any halfwitted fan who hasn’t played the game and sits on his arse in a pub boring the arse off people ( Jail, you around? Tsunki?) would know that this is not the modern approach. Sack the sod I say, sack him now!!

I thought he might get some bother.

Not that they’ll ever find him, but still.

I reckon this is just nipping things in the bud so there’s no copycats.

Imagine the entire Gallowgate doing the same when we beat Liverpool five nowt to end their unbeaten run…

    Munster #79 last thread,

“…it looked like a rib to me and I think Bruce said same.”

According to PhysioRoom, the club (sounds like it’s SB) have stated only that “Joelinton got a whack to his ribs. He’s sore in there. Let’s hope there’s no fracture or break.”

So the report is even more vague than you expected and there doesn’t seem to be any more information around at the mo. I think they’ll give him an X-ray and a few days rest and see how he feels.

I didn’t know until I read the report that his full name is Joelinton Apolinario de Lira – though it’s probably common knowledge. You learn something new every day.
