According to a report in Turkish Football, Newcastle will send scouts to Turkey to watch Goztepe midfielder Efe Binici.
The 19-year-old plays for Goztepe’s U19 side and will be watched when they take on Konyaspor U19s this Saturday. Bournemouth and Watford will also have representatives present at the match.
Binici joined Goztepe from Aydinspor on a free transfer in 2018. He’s played 16 times with 4 goals for their U19s this season. The midfielder has also been called up for Turkey’s U19s but has yet to make an appearance.
There’s a report from earlier this week in Calcio Mercato that both AC Milan and Sassuolo have recently scouted Binici. The report says that the his style of play is reminiscent of Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu, who Newcastle were linked with last month.
It also says that Greek club Olympiacos were readying a bid of £2.7m with a 30% sell-on clause for any future fee. However, it is not expected to be accepted by Goztepe.
Newcastle have several excellent midfield prospects at the academy in Reagan Thomson, Bobby Clark, and Joe White. Thomson scored a goal for Scotland’s U17s against Hungary this past Friday.
We’ll see if anything comes from the scouting mission on Saturday for Efe Binici, who just turned 19 last week.
