BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has made his predictions for this weekend’s Premier League action. He thinks Newcastle will not pick up anything at Arsenal and lose 2-0.
This is his prediction in full:
Arsenal are the draw specialists in the Premier League with 13 out of a possible 25 so far, and Newcastle have shared the points in three of their past five league matches.
So, I suppose the most sensible prediction here would be a draw, but I am actually going to go with a Gunners victory.
Arsenal’s results under Mikel Arteta have not been great, but I still think things are improving as the players get used to Arteta’s methods and his demands.
Arteta needs a win soon, of course, but it is not as if he is under any great pressure because he has only been in charge for a few weeks.
I think the fact the Gunners are 10 points off fourth and a Champions League spot takes the pressure off them. It would be just like Arsenal to go on a run that puts them back in contention for that.
Well, it was kind of Lawrenson to reference Newcastle in at least of one of his sentences. 🙂
Though, we have to disagree that Arteta isn’t feeling any pressure. While his job is not under any real threat at the moment, he does need to start picking up wins.
The Spaniard has been at the helm for more than just a few weeks as Lawro puts it. He’s closing in on two months since he was appointed as the replacement for his compatriot Unai Emery.
In that time, Arsenal have picked up just one win but also only one defeat in the league. The other six matches have all been draws. They have also advanced through the FA Cup with wins against Leeds and at Bournemouth.
They are unbeaten in their seven fixtures in the new year, but like Newcastle, it hasn’t exactly been a glorious run.
Newcastle meanwhile are on an eight-game unbeaten stretch in all competitions. While they’ve managed to do enough to not lose, they’ve put in some dreadful displays during this spell.
Newcastle and Arsenal are both on 31 points with Arsenal’s superior goal difference, placing them 2 spots above Newcastle in the Premier League in 10th.
Something will have to give at the Emirates on Sunday. We hope a rejuvenated Newcastle will have enough to get a result.
What Will Be The Result At Arsenal On Sunday?
- Loss (44%, 1,119 )
- Draw (29%, 735 )
- Win (27%, 694 )

Comment #53Anglo, what Saab is it? My garage gave me a 2006 octavia to drive around in. Feels like a tractor but I like older cars. Modern cars with their screens and constant beeps car be irritating as hell. My last car was an Accord. Incredibly reliable engine. What BM did you drive, tempted by a 5 series

Comment #71Anglo, I just read a couple of reviews. Same platform as a vectra. Your thoughts? I’m suddenly keen, if my own car starts to give more grief. As I said some aspects of new cars irritate the sh1t out of me.
