Alex Bruce Reveals New Signing ‘Looks The Part’ In Training

Danny Rose was a bit of a surprise signing in January. We were linked with him in the summer, but at the time it seemed a stretch.

However, once Jetro Willems went down with a season-ending injury, Bruce was going to have to bring in another left-back.

The sudden need at the position coincided with Danny Rose’s struggle to get games under Jose Mourinho at Tottenham.

With the England international needing to play regularly in anticipation of this summer’s European Championship, the two problems found a perfect solution with Danny joining Newcastle on loan for the rest of the season.

Steve Bruce’s son Alex has been talking to Football Insider quite a bit today. Earlier, he had mentioned recommending Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard to his father as a possible target for Newcastle.

Now, the former Ipswich, Leeds, and Hull defender has divulged some insider information on how Danny Rose is faring in training so far. This is what he had to say:

“Dad says in the first couple of weeks he’s had in training he looks the part. You can tell by the way he just moves and keeps the ball, he’s going to be a proper player for them and he’s looking forward to having him in the team.

“He was in the Champions League final a few months ago, playing for Spurs. He’s been a Premier League player now, a regularly consistent Premier League player for a number of years.

“The fact that Dad’s got him there, I think the fact he’s a Leeds lad, and he wanted to come back up north has been huge in him joining Newcastle.”

An inspired and performing Danny Rose could be a big boost to this Newcastle side. We definitely are encouraged by what Alex Bruce says about the 29-year-old.

Rose could add a lot of quality down the left flank if he can reach the heights of a few years ago when he was one of the best left-backs in England.

We think Steve Bruce will still go with Matt Ritchie from the start at Arsenal. However, if Rose is training as well as it sounds, he could nail down the left wing-back position very soon.

That would allow Matt Ritchie to move further forward though he would have trouble unseating either Allan Saint-Maximin or Miguel Almiron on the wings.

This type of fight for places is needed all across the pitch. The three players Newcastle brought in on loan last month have not only added quality but also boosted the competition for a place in the starting eleven.

What Will Be The Result At Arsenal On Sunday?

  • Loss (44%, 1,119 )
  • Draw (29%, 735 )
  • Win (27%, 694 )

I’m genuinely worried that Alex Bruce might be coming in to advise his dad and take over his twitter account 😮

    Repost thingy

    Jail,

I just see the comical value now I think.

He’s inadvertently got me thinking though.

We’ve had an uncanny amount of duds over the years, I’d imagine the total cost to the club in the premiership era must be incredible. Wonder how we’d gauge a dud though, injury free and not playing 50% of the games in a season maybe. Apart from the obvious players doin a colback!

Think I dropped a bollock there!

Using amount of games played is a poor gauge as the player could have good performances and contribution with minimum games played. Think Daryl Murphy as mentioned, is a good example of this.

    Jail,

    You really make me laugh.

You go on and on and on about Ashley being a tight greedy barsteward and then say there are a load of players who he’ll let go on free transfers because he won’t offer them a new contract.

    Which one is it?

And, have you even considered that Bruce may be having a say in things?

Some fans slaughter us for having too many Championship standard players yet when we don’t offer them new contracts the screaming starts about how stupid the club are.

That’s is what gets me about many on this blog.

    The continually contradict their contradictions.

    First !
Manchester City have been banned from European competition for the next two seasons after being found to have committed “serious breaches” of Uefa’s club licensing and financial fair play regulations.

The reigning Premier League champions have also been fined 30m euros (£25m).

I would love it to be true that new rich owners are coming in and don’t care about contracts running out so they can just replace the players without having the hassle of having to sell them or pay them. But have the option to give new contracts to the players they want to keep.

    Could this be happening?

Wonder if Pep Guardiola now fancies a new project under wealthy owners and more fans than he has now.

He could be back in the Champions League with us rather than hanging around to rebuild Man City.

No Manchester Clubs in Europe. The end is nigh.

I think Rose will be in for Richie who hadn’t been good lately, and Longstaff had too good of a game to be left out, there is zero harm in trying the same formation as we did against Oxford just try it and see if it works out again. Then we will know if it was a one of performance from Longstaff. But whatever way he plays it and whether it will be Hayden or Longstaff, Rose and Lazaro absolutely have to start.
