Newcastle have work to do to extend some of out of contract players beyond this summer. Yesterday, Steve Bruce spoke about the next few months being crucial in deciding which players will remain for next season.
While we know that efforts are being made to keep Matty Longstaff at his hometown club, there will need to be decisions made on Federico Fernandez, Javier Manquillo, Karl Darlow, and Andy Carroll.
There is also the business of trimming some of the fat at the club. We have players out on loan and still at the club who have no futures at Newcastle.
Some of them, like Jamie Sterry, Jack Colback, and Rob Elliot, will just leave when their contracts run out.
However, there are a few that still have a year remaining that will need to be moved on. Newcastle will have to do a better job this summer than the last one in accomplishing this task.
The Chronicle’s John Gibson has named five players that he says Newcastle are desperate to offload this summer.
They are Henri Saivet, Jacob Murphy, Achraf Lazaar, Rolando Aarons, and Christian Atsu. All have another year left on their contracts with only Atsu having played a part in the first team this year.
Henri Saivet has been on the books all year but was not handed a squad number, so he was only eligible for cup ties. It is going to be very hard to find Saivet another club this summer.
Jacob Murphy, Achraf Lazaar, and Rolando Aarons have all had disappointing loan spells and should be moved on permanently. Aarons is currently on his second loan of the year at Motherwell after playing sparingly for Wycombe Wanderers.
Newcastle must redouble their efforts to find Saivet, Murphy, Lazaar, and Aarons new clubs before next season begins. Christian Atsu will also likely be surplus to requirements next season, but he has at least played games for Newcastle this season.
What Will Be The Result At Arsenal On Sunday?
- Loss (44%, 1,119 )
- Draw (29%, 735 )
- Win (27%, 694 )

From a previous thread.
The club occasionally DOES do “something positive” They brought in Rafa and despite not being able to save us from relegation (Ashley’s plan), he was a great success and the club was buzzing for 2 years. Then when Rafa had
re-established the club which he loves what happens? The idiots scrap the whole project and let Rafa go cos they don’t have ambition! It’s a crime what this regime are doing to our great club and anyone who remotely defends them is not a true fan and is probably associated with them!
You and your like are helping facilitate the downward spiral and ultimate destination – the Championship!

Comment #17There are in my estimation about eight super clubs in the world, we might all differ just very slightly on who they are. The ffp was designed to keep those super clubs in a monopoly and a couple of men got huge sums of money for helping draw up those plans, they also got huge sums of money for awarding Qatar the WC ahead of Australia or SE Asia where football is huge. Man City banned, when will PSG be also. Continous winners of a shit league that have never won the CL yet can afford to pay Neymar 400K a week. Ffs!

For the wont of stating the obvious it’s a shame he never kept us up because he would have been sent packing straight away and Brucie could have came in sooner to get us where we are now. Like Jib said about KK there wouldn’t have been any false sense of hope and we could have just accepted or place as perennial strugglers with no complaints, believing each year we can’t compete with Via, Swansea, Norwich, WBA or which ever team happen to get promoted that year.

Comment #22Agreed. The FFP rules are designed to protect the cartel of the biggest clubs. If some benefactor wants to spend their money funding a football club that’s their choice.
If the football authorities really want to level the playing field they should introduce a budget cap. The same ceiling for everyone. Obviously the large clubs will not like this as it will threaten their dominance and therefore prize money. This spend what you earn is rubbish. It’s like telling someone with £10m in the bank they can only spend the interest.

I don’t believe a word Jib says and as far as KK is concerned it wasn’t false hope. I’ve supported the toon like many for 60 years and it was a privilege to have watched his teams! It wasn’t false hope to me! Keegan set the bar and with the right owners we can win the league. I like most will never accept Ashley’s mediocrity!

Comment #35JFA, is my FF maths is correct:
You: 1495 – De Bruyne and Grealish still to play.
Me: 1483 – De Bruyne (captain) and Mount still to play.
It’s game on now.
Anyway, back tomorrow for the game; hopefully I will be somewhere near caught up on the blog by then.
