Report – New Deals Agreed For These Two Magpies

Miles Starforth with the Shields Gazette is reporting that Newcastle have agreed on new deals with both Matt Ritchie and Jonjo Shelvey. Both players are on current contracts that expire in 2021.

However, he provides no additional details on either agreement instead just making a single statement on the breakthrough.

There was a report in mid-January that talks with Ritchie and Shelvey had made significant progress so there may be an announcement soon by Newcastle.

We would like to see both players extended although they both have question marks over their futures. Jonjo Shelvey is currently out injured and has missed quite a few games over the past two years with various problems.

Matt Ritchie turned 30 years old in September, so he’ll likely not have gotten much beyond a two-year extension. He’s a team leader and full of passion on the pitch, though not the explosive force down the flank that Jetro Willems was before his injury.

The contract situation at Newcastle has reared its head of late with Steve Bruce’s recent declaration that there has been no progress with securing Matty Longstaff beyond this year.

He also spoke about ‘having conversations’ on a couple of other players who are out in contract this summer in Federico Fernandez and Javier Manquillo.

Hopefully, the news on Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie is accurate, and the club are finally getting some of these contracts sorted out before the summer.

    lesh,

The post you referred to is a summary of how I’ve posted for a long time.

I’m fed up of explaining that just because I don’t agree with the constant bile, conspiracy theories, fakeover PR accusations and that everything to do with NUFC is a rabid mess doesn’t make me an Ashley supporter or apologist.

However, the likes of you and others are hell bent on painting me that way and I’ll leave you to it.

Re your point about new readers of the blog…

If it wasn’t for the likes of me, Jib and Muster any new readers might just as well believe this blog was solely in the hands of those with little, if anything, to be positive about in all things to do with NUFC.

Yet again, your totally blinkered views and closed mind means you fail to see that as with most things in life, there are two sides to every story.

    You see nothing but yours.

Just off down the local bar to watch Villa / Spurs as a prelude to the big one.
Amazing how many Tanzanians have become Villa fans since Samatta signed. Loads of Villa tops in Dar Es Salaam today. 34 degrees mind , kin scorching . Seems daft all that bad weather at home.

Let’s get back to the match. I’m genuinely excited today. I hope it is a good match and they play well, really dont want to see a lethargic match devoid of effort. If we get the converse of that I’ll be happy.

Bills son, I have some sympathy with your view and believe all voices should be welcome on the blog, equally Toon22 etc have a right to voice their opinions – it’s hard not to see our club as being badly run and not being competitive especially when apart from top 2 or 3 clubs there is real opportunity for us to break into top 6 with some Everton style investment. Ashley is not right for the club and sooner he f@cks off the better!
I don’t believe there is any complex conspiracy just an owner who doesn’t care enough and is happy for us to tick over above 18th – sad state of affairs for us fans but not really news to anyone else.
Keep saying what you want and as long as you respect those with different views then I reckon it’s all good – be a boring blog if everyone agreed 🙂

Arsenal may play different under Arteta but if they remain true to form we could have the ideal set up against them.

They like to dominate the centre of midfield and play lots of triangles and the CB’s, especially Luiz, push high up the pitch.

That leaves them short of bodies down the flanks if they lose possession and Luiz gets done in one on one’s time and again.

With Lazoro, Ritchie or Rose and Miggy and ASM all natural wide players if we spray it out wide as soon as take possession of them, especially deep in our half, we could have a bit of a field day.

Arteta hasn’t has a great start and he might underestimate us and want to make an attacking show for their fans.

I’ve got a feeling it could be a 2-0 to us.

Just remember kk rafa shearer were all wrong and ashley defenders etc were right, everything in nufc is rosy and couldn’t be better.

Even kk in his book reiterated his plea for United fans to retain hope, stressing that the club will thrive again in the future once the current owner eventually departs – no matter how long that may.

Definitely sounds like things are perfect then eh and kk has no idea whatsoever about football. Ah well some people just enjoy burying their heads in the sand expecting things to miraculously improve without them having to do jot about it. Compare now to before MA came, are we a better club now or then, are the community and fans more engaged now or then, and remind me do we have more or less debt than we had when MA arrived. Despite living in a time when tv money contracts have never been higher.

I don’t quite get it why Bruce is griping over the number of games teams typically play. His team never lasts 45 minutes even when they play only a game a week. His team doesn’t ever play fast counterattacking football or get physical. Yet they are always at the top of the injury table.

May be its time Bruce realizes the problem lies in his own style of management and not so much in the congested schedule every team faces these days.

I’m looking forward to a good battle down our right hand side. If Kolasinac plays, he’s liable to leave big spaces in behind. Almiron and Yedlin/Lazaro should be able to capitalise with their pace. If we can just find a bit of consistency with our delivery into the box, I genuinely think Joelinton will get on the end of them.

I am quite astonished the bookies have us at 7/1 today. Somebody posted yesterday that we have more wins on the board than Arsenal this season, and aside from Arsenal’s forward line, their team sheet doesn’t exactly intimidate.

I’ve thrown caution to the wind again, and backed Newcastle to win both halves and have the most corners in each half @500/1. Unlikely I know, but Maximin was talking about having a point to prove after having a bad game last time out… and a revved up Maximim could turn a game on its head.

Maxi’s the best attacking player we have had since Ben Arfa, imo. And he’s only just getting warmed up.

Although Arsenal is tightener defensively under Arteta, there are still a lot of holes we could exploit. Luiz, in particular, often leaves a lot of space for others to exploit. Hope our midfielders maintain a reasonable territorial control allowing our wing backs to break free. If that happens, the matchup between Saint Maximin and Luiz could become interesting.

Tricky game today could go either way. With Arsenal rebuilding we might be able to exploit their uncertainty.
If they’re playing need to get after Luiz and that kid with the long hair Guendouzi (needs a bloody haircut). Under pressure their games fall apart. And their defence is generally slow.

Still wondering where our goals will come from – certainly not Joelinton ( he cannot be truly valued at £40 million).

    So I’m going for a 2 -1 win
