Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player In Defeat At Arsenal?

It was another Jekyll and Hyde performance from the lads. We looked a threat and composed in possession in the first half. But came out and showed no impetus in the second.

Arsenal thoroughly dominated the half en route to a 4-0 thrashing for Newcastle. It was just a poor second-half display as the lads showed little of the resiliency that had kept them afloat over the past month.

While we thought Arsenal edged the final moments of the first half, there was nothing to foreshadow the complete control that came in the second.

Our disciplined defense was torn to pieces by Arsenal as players were left unmarked in the box on several of the goals.

Newcastle again wasted chances and promising sequences in the final third. Allan Saint-Maximin was the only player who threatened Arsenal in the final forty-five minutes.

The lads must dust themselves off and get ready for Crystal Palace next weekend. They’ve shown an ability to quickly put displays like this behind them and that should be the focus this week.

Who Was Newcastle's Best Player In Defeat At Arsenal?

  • A. Saint-Maximin (66%, 893 )
  • Valentino Lazaro (8%, 110 )
  • Sean Longstaff (5%, 68 )
  • Martin Dubravka (4%, 55 )
  • Joelinton (3%, 47 )
  • Federico Fernandez (3%, 35 )
  • Miguel Almiron (3%, 35 )
  • Danny Rose (2%, 27 )
  • Nabil Bentaleb (2%, 23 )
  • Ciaran Clark (2%, 21 )
  • Matt Ritchie (1%, 12 )
  • Jamaal Lascelles (1%, 9 )

Don’t think I can vote for any of them
Maybe Joe due to the horrible position the club has gotten him into

He honestly hasn’t a chance in that team

    Bloody bus!

I’m not that gutted, at least he set us up to compete, and we were the better side in the first half. Arsenal were just awesome in the second.

People calling them a mediocre side. Not when theh play like that, they’re anything but mediocre.

We were beaten by a far better side in the second half. On to the next game!

Saint Maximin all day long for me.

First half especially and if he’d had Arsenal’s luck second half we’d be talking about another cracking goal not one that hit the post.

When the manager basically says “we’re crap, Arsenal are a top team and I just hope we don’t lose by too many” in his pre-game interview…

What the hell does he say in training? It’s no surprise the players are looking crap if that’s what they’re told by the manager.

Imagine it, the team talk “Look lads I know this will end badly as we’re playing a top club (I thought they had the same number of points as us but hey ho), but just try to keep the score down to a 2 or 3 goal loss”

Cos that’s how it comes across. Truly, truly appalling, and I’ve not even started on the players yet.

Hate talking about the previous manager, but the current manager keeps alluding to him in terms of why we’re awful….

Conceded 4 goals more time in Bruce’s 26 PL league games than in previous managers 86 PL league games

I don’t think they played that well and their 3rd and 4th goals were very lucky.

We just didn’t compete second half at all, and if you give Ozil and Ceballos that much space you will suffer.

Arteta changed his tactics, Bruce went all out defence for some reason but it’s one game and we will be fine

With Joelinton, maybe the manager is at fault and playing him out of position, just dont know, but really do feel like its playing with 10 men when he is on the field. I’ve stuck by him for so long, but feeling cant do that anymore. What really annoyed me today was when I think the 3rd went in, he was standing up the field with hands on hips. I know he isnt a defender, but he could have at least tried to get back and help

ASM the only player worth a vote over the 90 minutes, thought Lazaro had a good performance in the first half.
The rest should reimburse the traveling fans.

Says it all when Joelinton is up there for mom. Strange how a poor touch, zero pace, weak shot, can’t hold the ball up, etc. can cost us £40m.
    Clueless manager as well.
Turned it off when we went 2-0 down as the football from us was non-existent. Clark mom as he tried and put himself about.
Such is life under Ashley and a lot more drivel to come.

Newcastle is the only team i know that goes into the transfer market & signs players it doesnt need
to play in positions in which we already have good players
and ignores the positions we are desperately lacking quality e.g centre forward

to add insult to injury the new players are a downgrade on the ones we already had
Hayden for example is a far better central midfielder than Bentaleb
and a actually better right wing back than Lazaro

He has been one of our top 3 performers this season
Truly shocking decision making by bruce to drop him in a game like this

Playing with 10 men when joelinton on the field? Did people forget the difference made when he went off injured in the cup replay last time out? We got bossed by Oxford right after that.

There are mixed comments to be fair today. Some saying he was good when building up in first half and drifting. Some saying not so good. Some criticising for getting back and defending, some saying he’s not getting back to defend enough.

    I’m confused to be honest.

I’ve got nothing to go by as I missed the game, only catching clips and comments from social media.

Do you think another manager would make a big difference? RAFA (a world class manager) did no better with Rondon and Perez in the team.
The squad is Not good enough ffs two or three decent players don’t make a team.

Fair enough mate, personally think they just played better than they had and the Arteta love in has started.

It’s about opinions though, they are hardly world beaters.

I thought Lazaro defended pretty well tbh, until he switched off. Hopefully that side of it will improve with experience in the pl, because other than his mistake he loved very good going forward and in defence.

Droppy, I think today was a step in the right direction but a lot of things need to be worked out decide what our best team is. It will take time but were getting better.

We were fantastic in the first half and poor in the second but Arsenal really were quite good in the second, its hard to know where it went wrong today or who was at fault.

But there are positive signs there, so I’m gonna focus on that. No point being miserable for the week, it’s over with now, but at least we have a few more answers instead of playing the same old way which tells us nothing.

We all know that the parasite is ruining our club. I think most bloggers on here knew we needed a striker to replace Rondon when he left. He linked up well with Perez in the second half of last season (that’s another story). I cannot understand why a replacement wasn’t found for him.

    ……
After the the match Steve Bruce confirmed that all the clubs training pitches had been reconfigured to be half a pitch up against a brick wall at the halfway line. All training sessions are structured around the “Ibstock method” so that the balls rebound off the wall without the need to enter the attacking half of the pitch.
Mr Bruce went on to say,
“It’s a testament to the investment Mr Ashley has made in this club that the brick walls were constructured so quickly and from quality materials over the summer months.”
