Poll – Should Newcastle Sign Jetro Willems This Summer?

Jetro Willems seems desperate to sign for Newcastle after he has been on loan at the club for the first of this season.

It was a cruel end to his season when he picked up an ACL injury to his knee in the home game against Chelsea – which we went on to win 1-0.

Jetro has loved Newcastle as a club for a while, and he was pleased when his pal Ginni Wijnaldum signed for us back in 2016.

He came to see Ginni play, and it was apparent he loved the Newcastle club back then.

After he was injured, this is the tweet he sent out:

Assume he can recover from the ACL injury – poor Florian Lejeune has picked up two of them in his relatively short time at the club,

While the injury was career-ending back in the 60s and 70s, they are much better these days, and the knee can be even stronger after the operation.

And Florian will be able to offer advice to Jetro on how to get through it all.

The 25-year-old 22 times capped Dutch International would cost £10M and maybe even less because of the uncertainty of the injury.

But with his comments about still being a Newcastle player until June, the option to buy for around £10M is probably still in effect.

It would be great if you can keep sending Jetro words of encouragement – whether or not you want him to sign on permanently at Newcastle.

Hes no finished article, he was notorious for switching off also. I do believe Lazaro will be a far better player in time, but for sub 10M as a bench player it’s a no brainer. Jetro wants to be here which is half the battle.

I would sign him up but we need another one as well of similar quality with less of an injury risk so maybe a younger player like that boy from Wigan!?

I think Rose is a stop gap till the summer he won’t want to join us full time and Ashley won’t sanction a move for a 30 year old

    Voted no.

If you could guarantee he would be fit then obvs would take him as he is class but 3 knee injuries by 25yrs old, its only going to get worse not better as he appraoches 30.

We have had enough injury prone players over the recent years taking up squad positions and only available for half a season at best, just think we should aim for a squad of players who dont have lengthy injury histories.

Add in our current coaching team and their inability to keep players fit and we will have him retired by 28 anyway, best for him to stay away of our lot!

Hang on a minute, they’ve bought Lazaro, a winger who wont be here next season to play as a wing back. Is that an admission that Krafth is a dud or is it part of a plan to revert to a 4-4-2 when Yedlin is fit and have Lazaro on the right wing?

Actually what is the injury status of Yedlin, Manquillo and Krafth?

Looking at the squad we have, there is a decent argument to switch to 4-4-2, or rather 4-4-1-1, and I agree that Joelinton should be dropped, or at least played in a position he is familiar with.

True, speculation over which players we should and shouldn’t sign might be a waste of time if we find we are facing life a rung lower down. It might not be up to us. Again.

    Assuming all fit and healthy:

    GK- Dubs
    RB- Manq
    LB- Rose
    CB- Lascelles
    CB- Fede
    RW- Lazarro
    LW- Joelinton
    CM- Shelvey
    CM- Longstaff M
    AMC- Miggy
    FW- ASM

Obviously opinion could easily be divided about whom is better on which wing, and best CB pairing, but I think our squad is deffo manned up to play that formation?

The problem we are facing at the moment is that it looks pretty conclusively like Bruce is struggling to get the new and existing players into some kind of stable shape or style.

I would sign him but not for 10 million . like LCBP said get a younger decent player in as cover …

i’m still confident about the takeover, before any one ask’s why haven’t any of the people involved in the takeover said any thing , The Reuben brother’s last time they quickly distanced themselves . Amanda Staveley she’s been quiet this time . no meetings in curry houses . the Saudi’s nothing as yet so my thinking YES there is something going on in the back ground …

There were evidently no strikers available out there better than what we have and with Carroll , Gayle and Muto all ready to return we were supposedly well enough equipped in the striker dept.

Poor Joelinton stuck up top on his own with his ineptness or lack of confidence or whatever standing out like a sore thumb , is drawing attention amongst nearly all pundits now that Bruce is clueless and the management even more so.

It’s been the entire season so far
Remember when the players had to tell him it wasn’t working?
When he then just tried to copy Rafas tactics

You like watching how we play nowadays?
You do actually watch the football?

    Re Lazarro
i’m not in a position to comment on this kid as i really don’t know enough about him, can anyone actual tell me his best position,
on sundays performance he looked like he could do a job as a winger, but his defensive qualities looked a bit suspect, but i appreciate that’s only one game.

    Jib, Bill’s son

You haven’t come back to tell us why the club’s in the state it’s in and more to the point who’s responsible. Perhaps my question wasn’t clear?

If that’s the case, let’s go another way: Liverpool are brushing aside any team they face, Leicester and Wolves are better placed than one would’ve imagined. Why?

And what have their owners done that’s different to what your heroic and much maligned owner hasn’t?

hibbit, he played mainly on RW at his previous clubs, but in Italy he was often lobbed in at Wing Back. He is wasted anywhere but on the wing, as the lad has a wonderful cross on him.

The way Bruce has us playing Joelinton, whoever plays central midfield, ASM and Almiron are on a hiding to nothing until he realises this we are always going to struggle to create chances and our defence will be under constant pressure

The formation that best fits with what we have is the exact replica of Liverpool. They play a 433 with the central attacker (firminho) dropping deeper to help out while leaving the two wide players forward so they can break quickly. This would fit with Maxi and Joelinton specifically (who can then do more defensive and link up work as he likes lol) while also helping Almiron get up that pitch. The 3 man midfield is pretty much one really defensive player (fabinho) and then two box to box players (hendo and gini). I think we could quickly replicate that in terms of personal but with what quality I have no idea.

If you sit deep for 80 plus minutes every game then you’re going to lose more than you win.

Imagine if our attacking players didn’t have to run with the ball 30yards just to get out our own half.
