Report – Midfield Target Frozen Out After Refusal To Move In January

Newcastle had a bid accepted by Lille for midfielder Boubakary Soumare last month. The amount was in the range of £35m plus add-ons.

Despite their best efforts, Newcastle could not tempt the 20-year-old to leave Lille for Newcastle in the middle of the season.

After the transfer fell through, Soumare started in a 2-0 defeat to PSG playing 78 minutes. However, since that match on the 26th of January, the French U21 international has not made another appearance.

It seems that there are now tensions between the midfielder and his club. It has culminated in him not playing in four straight games, including not even making the squad on Sunday in a 2-1 defeat to Marseille.

L’Equipe have published some comments from Lille manager Christophe Galtier on the situation with Soumare.

“There is a situation at the club that I do not comment on. During seasons, there can be tension between a player and his club.

“We’ll settle this internally and find a solution. Under these conditions, I, therefore, decided to work on two other options this week (Niasse and Onana). I found it interesting what Onana could do.”

It is unclear what the situation is, but there is a report in Sport Witness claiming that it is due to Soumare’s refusal to join Newcastle last month.

We hope this is not the case, and it really doesn’t make much sense if it is. Soumare has a host of admirers, including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea. Lille will likely be able to cash in on the player this summer.

If an unsuccessful attempt to lure the player away last month has caused a rift between him and the club, it may not bode well for Newcastle’s chances of tempting the player in the summer.

So this is the big crunch time against Palace this weekend there is no excuses to not be setup to have a proper go

We have the personnel to go 4 at the back

Palace are terrible haven’t won a game in ages and they don’t even press like Norwich do

8 new signings plus lots of other players playing that weren’t regulars last season this is Bruce’s team and tactics not Rafa’s

Hope we aren’t about to go on our annual losing streak, BTW.

    Grown to expect that 😉

I’ll take a draw versus palace.

Some fans querying why Shelvey and Ritchie have had contracts extended. It’s simple, when they’re sold in summer their worth more with 3 or 3 years left on their contract! Sean Longstaff has a contract up till 2022 (on a pathetic wage) and Matty needs tying up or else he’s off.

Imagine selling the idea of bruce rather than klopp to this kid. One 433, dynamic pass + move, great cv, not many injuries despite all their games. One permanent back 5, zero passing, multiple injuries.

Brucie boy get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur.

I see Les Mis are out in force, revelling in the muck of a good defeat. Tsunki, I’d rather trust Billson’s football analysis than yours ( give it a rest etc) but in simple terms it might just be an obvious case that arsenal have far superior technical players than us. Also, they didn’t have three newbies as far as I know. They have a v good coach ( who we tried to get), and had home advantage. A bad defeat and I was pretty appalled with the second half. Re players, thought Rose looked poor enough but will need time. The better players we get, assuming we get them, as the club has been showing, the less suited SB may be for us.

Munster I know you trust Bills Sons football judgement and that’s the deeply worrying thing. Well one of them. 🙂

As you say, they have technically better players, in other words they are a pretty decent side and better than this even on an off day where it seems they can “luckily” drill four up our Jacksies.

So my question stands – what do YOU think Bruce was playing at snarfing up a side he knows can defend away, by nailing in three new players who were always going to be half a yard behind a football game? Please, pass your glorious analytical judgement for us all to benefit from and bask in the warm glow of your coaching prowess.

    Munster,

Even you can surely see how dire it’s become with hardly any shots on goal every game and even less possession. You’ve felt very free for 3.5 years to constantly have a dig at rafa but why does Bruce always get a free ride for playing far worse dirgey stuff every single week.

    Are you the Bruce taliban?

After all, I’m just being brave enough to question and criticise the coach.

He’s not above criticism is he, just because he’s not an elite 13 major trophies winner or do we have to realise his inadequacy and make allowances. That being the case it’s pretty damning.

If there is no takeover, then I’m saying, against all my feelings for the club, that I hope we get relegated!
Ashley will never leave, if not this year where he definitely has interested parties and the thought of more years on a downward spiral is too much for me. Anyway we ain’t competing so there’s no point.
So 3 or 4 years in the Champo or even Div 1 should be enough to see the fat cnut on his way!
We will have our club back eventually!

Moonraker when has he earned anything except a pathetic wage. Hes been no good all season. Same with Matty, neither have exactly lit up our Midfield. They ain’t going anywhere and they wont be getting big wages either by the time their contracts are sorted out. People are in dreamland if they think the two Longstaffs are anything more than average at very best all season.

They cant expect big wages if they dont earn them.

They are playing in the most competitive and highest paid league in the world; whether they are good players or not ( I happen to think they are both great prospects) they should be paid the going rate.
They will leave and become big players that got away like many before them!
Rafa brought in Sean when Shelvey got injured and he was a revelation. Our current manager and his goons don’t know where to play him. We need another man in midfield rather than ASM and Miggy running down blind alleys and a plank at centre forward.

I believe Bruce looked at the Arsenal game as a free hit. We are 2/3 wins off safety. He has to play the on loan players to get them match fit and see what they’re like.
Last year, we played badly at the Emirates and Arsenal were vastly superior. This year, we played reasonably well for 35 minutes. We then reverted to the type seen in defeats to Norwich and Leicester.
I hold no torch for Bruce. But he didn’t buy Joelinton. Look at Ashley and Nixon for blame on that one.
Do I hate watching this team play. Of course I do. Have we had a massive dollop of luck on the pitch? Not half! Have we been unlucky with injuries? Yes, indeed.
I suppose 13 years of Ashley with his lack of ambition leads to bloggers attacking one another.
The enemy is the owner, not the Jibs, Billssons and Munsters of this world.

Fernamdez was marking a player in the middle, he pointed to Lazzaro to get on the right side, he was already in position.

Lazzaro was on the wrong side of the player he was defending against.

Even if you point the finger at Fernamdez it doesnt alter the fact Lazzaro was on the wrong side of his man and didn’t challenge.

    From Rotunda…

    Munster,

Even you can surely see how dire it’s become with hardly any shots on goal every game and even less possession. You’ve felt very free for 3.5 years to constantly have a dig at rafa but why does Bruce always get a free ride for playing far worse dirgey stuff every single week.

He’s not above criticism is he, just because he’s not an elite 13 major trophies winner or do we have to realise his inadequacy and make allowances. That being the case it’s pretty damning.

….Rotunda, I have no issue criticising Bruce, or any manager, when its due. Arsenal last 45 ( or more) was bad, really bad. So was Norwich, so was Leicester. You seem to be travelling down Lesh’s road here where you think my opinion is that Rafa should be criticised, but Bruce not. Why did you never ever criticise Rafa – because he hated Ashley? That’s not relevant to analysing his approach etc.

What Lesh has said isnt accurate at all – SB deserves brickbats at times.

I felt Rafa was given carte blanche by NUFC fans and was above criticism by a fairly myopic bunch on here. He was still better than Bruce, but I kept being told he was a world class manager. If so, I think he should have got us to 7th / 8th rather than mid table.

SB is considered absolutely rank by many / most on here. I didnt want him any more than you did but if Rafa was amazeballs and Bruce is beyond awful, how come the football isnt hugely different ( it is worse that Rafa ‘s second half of the season) and the points tally is broadly similar. Bruce has better quality in Maxi and Willems, but hamstrung by a shocking striker. It cant be all down to a good goalie. Is that not fair?

Yet you bizarrely keep telling us about how lucky SB is to have a striker of 40mill in Joel that Rafa didnt have – he’s no better than the donkey we sold. I’d rather have the last guy back and 40 mill to spend ( mind you 20 is probably in ashleys pocket)

It’s time some of the guys on here started reading what guys like me and Billson say – rather than what they want to think we are saying. I hope i’m being accurate re what Billson has said but in terms of what i feel :

    1. SB isnt what I wanted ( how ofet do i need to say this by the way ?? )
    2. Ashley is a fool and the real issue

I’m not sure how much more often it needs to be communicated

I’m not having a go at you by the way and trust that you read my peace offering prior to the Gooners game.

As I said to OP, i’m not comfortable re relegation – we are still in the mix.

Over 60 years of following and watching the team we have had some lousy owners. They own the club and invest or not. They buy or sell players, not the fans. Ashley is a poor football club owner. He is a successful retailer. He is to blame for the current state of play. Is there light at the end of the tunnel with him still here? No, because we cannot survive too much longer in the top flight playing this counter attack football with the blunt tools at our disposal.
It will be interesting to see how we respond at Crystal Palace. I still prefer 5 at the back and Hayden should replace Bentaleb.
